I used to be a LG user, but LG ruined webOS recently by making it a slow ad-ridden mess with the release of webOS 6, so I went with Sony. Google TV is a mixed bag, but better than most things besides dedicated streamers, particularly Apple TV. The ads are less intrusive vs. webOS. Overall it's pretty solid besides losing WiFi more often than it should. It's more responsive than webOS now too. Picky Complaint: The Google TV UI is limited to HD/1080p, so thumbnails and text is blurry in the OS. It's like going from retina to non-retina phone. Meanwhile, Apple TV 4K's whole entire user interface isn't just in 4K, it's literally in Dolby Vision. Legit Complaint: YouTube doesn't allow you to have multiple profiles/logins, so everyone in your household is watching YouTube under the same account. (LOL Google can't make multi-account for their owned & operated subsidiary?). So enjoy your partner or kids getting recommended your videos and vice versa. I mean, in 2022 even HBO and Hulu can do multiple profiles, and they aren't exactly the engineering and product powerhouse that Google is. These little annoyances made me get an Apple TV 4K Gen 2 and now everything is back to awesome. The TV is great, and Apple TV drives it with the best possible ad-free high-resolution experience. All of this being said, if you do NOT want to buy a dedicated streamer, I'd still pick this over webOS 6 any day.

We're sorry to know you're unable to have multiple accounts/profiles on YouTube app. It would be best for you to follow-up with Google/YouTube support to confirm this. As a workaround, you can log into a different Google account on the YouTube app. You can also use other accounts within Google apps like YouTube, but you won't see recommendation for those accounts on the Google TV home screen.

Great Picture with a lot of Compromises

Owned for 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros - Fantastic Picture (but not better than LG's C1 or even the CX, don't believe the people who claim Sony 'blows' them away, it just doesn't) - Nice Highlights - Great Shadow details - Puncy - Good Upscaling - Super clear and clean picture, Both a pro and con, the con is it's looks kind of waxy at times and there's a strong Soap Opera affect even when you set it to 1 Bad (nearly everything else) - I always heard how great Sony - No next gen gaming features, while I'm not a super gaming, not having those features on a TV this expensive is ridiculous. Especially when you know Sony will most likely do a proper implementation in 2022 or 2023 and that will make me resent this TV. - Acoustic Sound was shockingly bad. I really expected more from it, based on the commercials and marketing and I honestly think it's no better than any other TV Speaker. - Bravia Core - Was excited for this and thought this could be a real game changer but it's not. It's marketing fluff - the quality of the streaming is the same as any other service. The iMax Enhanced movies don't even automatically switch to iMax Enhanced mode, and you still get the black bars, so I'm not even sure what the point of "iMax Enhanced" even is. - Netflix Calibrated Mode - As someone who watches a lot of Netflix, was excited about this and it looks awful. I stopped using it after a day. - iMax Enhanced - Doesn't really bring anything to the Table - Google TV - Very slow to load, picture goes black when switching between inputs or changing settings... - Weird, random Audio Drop outs

We regret to hear that you are experiencing issues with your brand new Sony Bravia TV. This is not the experience we want you to have and this is usually not the case with our premium TVs. Our A80J supports the the Perfect for PlayStation 5 features. Please make sure your TV has the latest firmware by performing a software update to add these features. The update improves the performance of the TV and includes key features, applications, and bug fixes. This may also resolve the audio drop outs issue and other software-related issues. We can also perform a power reset by turning off. Unplug the power cord from the wall, press the Power button on the TV and then release it. Wait for two minutes, and then plug in the power cord.

The BEST Picture in its Class

As I was not entirely satisfied with the LG decided to order the Sony and was the best thing I did. It’s not a huge difference, both are OLED, however Sony was able to completely satisfy me. Sony produces a sharper picture, the details make it look even more 3 dimensional. The colors are more accurate, it produces the best greens I have ever seen on a TV, yellows and blues are great too. The skin colors are perfect, after minor tweaks in the advanced settings. The motion after a little adjustment is butter smooth. Overall the best improvements are in the dark scenes, Sony’s processing makes a tremendous difference with the grey gradation and light enhancements, LG was too dark and too blue. As a home theater enthusiast, picture and sound quality are top priority. Our previous TV was a 75” Sony LCD, upgrading to OLED is simply a huge improvement, and the 2 extra inches are the cherry on top of the cake. I don’t care for the TVs sound, my home theater takes good care of that. Really the only problem that I found is with eARC being a little buggy and not returning Atmos to my Denon receiver and going mute a few times. Hope Sony fixes the eARC problema.

Upscaling of 1080i/p video is really, really good. Motion handling is far better than my 5-year-old LG OLED. Getting the right settings for DolbyVision is proving a bit tricky, but there are plenty of resources out there to help.

Gorgeous TV for videophiles

I had a Samsung Q8FN before this, as a comparison this oled has much better contrast but less overall brightness. Not as good for daytime watching but overall better in every other category. Game mode is a necessity to low input lag.

Would my existing 480p to 1080p content look badly pixelated once blown up on a giant 4K screen like this? Will it give everything an artificial sheen like the LEDs I’ve tried out before? I researched my options extensively and landed on this well-reviewed OLED. I had no need to be nervous — with just a few customizations to the display settings, I had this beauty looking better than any TV I’ve ever seen before, even DVDs of 100-year-old films look great on this unit. And if you feed it 4K content — wowza. The Google TV interface is also very intuitive. It runs Plex and other apps really well. Works nicely with my sound system. The Best Buy Geek squad did a wonderful job mounting the telly on my wall. Win-win-win. Highly recommended.

Worth the price but a few annoyances

I am deducting a star because the control is terrible. It is long, it doesn't light up, and it has too many buttons. It is also hard to make any adjustments to where you want them to be as it seems each app or input has its own settings. I also don't like the app interface. It isn't terrible just not great. All minor things but things that annoy me enough for me to not give it 5*.

While we're glad you like the stunning and clear 4K HDR picture quality, we do apologize if you're not satisfied with the supplied remote control and Google TV interface. We're sorry, but the the A80J (all sizes) doesn't come with a backlit remote, it has a standard remote with Google Assistant built-in and advanced voice control.
To change the order of the settings that are displayed when you press Quick Settings button, refer to this link: https://helpguide.sony.net/tv/iusltn1/v1/en-003/01-03_12.html
If you want to move the App position, you can press the Apps button on the remote control, then Select the apps that you want to re-arrange. Press and hold Enter button on your remote control for 5 seconds. You will see a small window pop up.

The picture quality in 4K and HD is amazing! I have been looking at the OLED tvs for years. I originally wanted the LG. But as I did more and more research into these tvs and the different makers. I ended up going with Sony as the have far better processors that LG. Which in turn gives their tv better performance than LG. And another deciding fact for me was Customer Service. And regrettably I also have LG appliances. And because their appliances aren’t the best and I have had many issues with them. I have a lot of experience in dealing with LG customer service, or I should say lack of customer service. And let me tell you that LG customer service is non existent, SUCKS is putting it lightly. So that did factor in on my decision. But not as much as the over all superior performance that Sony tvs have over LG. So if you are in the market for an OLED, get yourself a Sony you will not be disappointed. I will say if you get one you will want to get either YouTube Tv or Hulu as they have the most HD/4K channels.

My love/hate relationship with the a80j

I really want to just totally fall in love with this TV. I really... REALLY do! I have been wanting an OLED TV for years, but unfortunately they've been insanely expensive. So, my last TV was a Samsung QLED that I liked, but it had a few annoying features that I could do without. Finally I could afford my first OLED last week and I was giddy with excitement. After seeing all the reviews about how this is close to the best OLED you can get, I couldn't wait to turn it on. The first thing I notice is the screen is basicly a mirror before you turn it on. When you do turn it on, it doesn't change much. If you have any sort of light in the same room, forget being able to see the picture where it reflects on the tv. When you have an absolutely pitch black room with absolutely no light anywhere, this TV is a dream! Unfortunately, light escaping from the sides of my blackout curtains ruin the picture. Light from other rooms reflecting off my light colored walls ruins the picture. My multicolored ceiling smart lights turned to a dark color and dimmed to 30% ruins the picture. It's rediculous! Yes you can adjust screen brightness, gamma, picture modes, blackness depth, etc, but it ruins how the picture should look like in order to half way compensate for the horrible reflections. The worst part of it all is this could have been easily fixed. The A90j has a less reflective screen cover they could have used, but cheapped out and didn't use it. The A90j also is a lot brighter. So, since the A90j fixes all the issues, why don't I just buy one of those? Because they don't make a 75inch A90j. How dumb is that? If you're not going to fix the A80J's problems, at least sell the 75 inch version! If you're not going to sell the 75" version, then fix the problems with it! At the VERY least, but the less reflective screen on it! I hate to say it, but it looks like I'm going to have to go back to Samsung's QLED. I don't want to, but why would I spend a grand more for a great picture I can't see? At least the QLEDs project enough light to compensate for it.
