||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I debated multiple times on pulling the trigger on getting this tv over the lg c2. I finally decided to go with the Sony a80j and I’m glad I did. The colors pop out of the screen. The darks are great. The goggle App Store is good. I wish it had more hdmi 2.1 but hopefully there’s a adapter to get that supports it. Gaming on it is also good. NHL22 looks great on it. My only concern is geek squad told me they calibrate my tv and the words doesn’t match up to the screen hooked up to my surround sound. I contacted Best Buy and they told me to go to the bestbuy I purchased the tv about the calibration which is too much hassle since it’s already mounted on my wall. But the tv is a fantastic buy

Expectations were blown away!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After a long wait, this OLED was finally wall-mounted. In one word, the picture is breath-taking! Having upgraded from a 10 yr. old Sony XBR LED, the contrast, detail, color and black-level is nothing I have ever experienced before. The brightness of this TV is incredible. The large screen and beautiful rendering of images make for an immersive experience. Although the TV speakers are great, it is definitely worth coupling this with a solid home theater setup to have a complete movie watching experience. Well worth the money!

Best TV I have ever owned. Buy it now.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV is simply stunning. I traded it up from a 75 inch Sony that was 4 years old and also an incredible TV, but I was ready for the jump to OLED and wow, it blows away even my highest expectations. The contrast, the blacks, the colors are stunning. I was worried about the brightness level but no longer, it is just perfect. I cannot recommend this TV highly enough.

Simply stunning ALMOST out of the box!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.OK so this is my first review ever here. We have purchased TWO televisions in the last nearly 28 years of marriage. First one was a Sony flagship 32" XBR200 in 1998 and then a 50" Panasonic plasma flagship TH-50PZ700 in 2007. You geeks out there know where I'm coming from. I have had an interest in OLED the past 3-4 years as my plasma was showing it's age but I was waiting for the technology to mature and I hate regular LED after plasma was so accurate (esp with ISF calibration). So I finally took the plunge on the A80J. I actually prefer the picture to the A90J side by side but not sure if settings were the same. Certainly was not willing to spend $8K to gain 5 inches for over DOUBLE the price. So I had the GS do an in-wall install and this beast in incredible in one word. Blows my plasma out of the water and finally I can enjoy dark scenes again! Upscaled material is excellent and 4K is just jaw dropping especially on Dolby Vision (and HDR too) content. Being a tweaker/tuner I couldn't just leave it be so I started doing research on settings etc. I ended up following a series of videos on youtube done by "Keep It Classy Tech" because he goes step by step on all settings to maximize picture...and if you are willing to enter the service menu he shows you what exactly to set to calibrate the TV to the D65 white point spec...which is what I ended up choosing and it's stunning. Here are some very helpful links to get you started if you want to go down that road - to perform the D65 tweaks you will need to install an app to unlock extra settings but these videos still show how to gain substantial improvement without calibrating to D65. https://youtu.be/2s8Y2r-WDQM https://youtu.be/tEYfaie_zQw https://youtu.be/afmpoUc0rQQ https://youtu.be/QkgCaci4lMc Remember - you will not get the ultimate picture from this set without a GOOD 4K Blu Ray Player or a very good internet service. If you can, use ethernet, otherwise make sure your wifi is rock solid. As for issues - my ONLY issue was that after initial setup I was using the built in Google TV interface and was suffering the "dreaded" Netflix keeps closing out to the home page every 5-10 minutes. If this happens to you you will need to do a factory reset (firmware upgrades will stay installed) to clear all data and start with a fresh initial setup. So I would just do this right out of the gate before and of these tweaks I refer to in the videos because you will have to go through these settings all over again. Once I did a factory reset there has been NO issues for me. Highly recommended and I can say with confidence I will be very happy with this set for as long as it lasts! Hope this review can help SOMEONE out there. Enjoy!!!

Very Impressive tv
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this tv for a bit now - there are some things which I'm not using on this tv yet, as I primarily am using this tv for streaming. I'm coming from a 2013 FHD lcd tv so it didn't take much to beat the old one. The tv is mounted in a bright room with windows along the east and southern walls, and it is plenty bright for watching tv during the day. I was going back and forth if I needed to get a QLED from samsung the way all the reviewers said to get QLED for bright rooms - but this tv can get plenty bright. Enough so that some of the real bright HDR highlights when the scene is dark are almost too bright when watching a movie in a darkened room at night I suppose if glare drives you nuts the Samsung (Q80 or better) might be worth it - but I wasn't willing to give up the contrast hit. I don't game so ALLM and VRR aren't that important to me, nor do I own an e-ARC receiver, yet. I can't speak to those. The sound quality on this tv is very good, as tends to be once you get over a certain size. The marketing behind the acoustic audio on this tv is a bit much, it sounds like normal stereo not sound coming from a source on tv (the specs show the sound system as a 2.1 system, so...). I believe the 77" gets more powerful speakers than the smaller size, the same as the A90J, just with 1 sub instead of 2. (The 77" also gets the glossy screen of the A90J also, so keep in mind when comparing smaller A80J screens) I will also say that PQ at 720p/1080i can be a bit soft at 77" especially in the more heavily compressed streams - which makes me yearn for 4K/ASTC 3.0 broadcasts (not available locally here yet).

The Sony A80J is worth it, way better than an LG.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded from a 65” LG C6 purchased in 2017. The panel had a defect that showed up in 2020 but I wasn’t ready to get a replacement since I still wanted to hold on to having 3D on my TV. But then this Sony TV came out in 2021 and it blew me away. So after rewatching the only 3D movies I had (for the last time), I pulled the trigger on Geek Squad doing the replacement and I upgraded to the Sony 77” A80J and it has been awesome. Almost everything I watch looks so much better than before. The only drawback to this TV can be temporary image retention on system menus like the Apple TV. In fact I had to exchange for a second A80J as the first panel seemed to have a little too much image retention for comfort and with some research online it seemed to be a normal occurrence as most call it a panel lottery out there so sometimes you have to just go with your gut and if it doesn’t perform as expected get a replacement. The TV is very easy to use and to my relief the HDMI control works properly (my LG always had issues and I had to buy an adapter for my Apple TV with the control pin removed so it wouldn’t constantly screw things up). Like any TV there are of course little things here and there that can be annoying but you adapt especially as TV actually gets better over time so it is worth the effort. I highly recommend this TV! While the A90J might be better if you have the money, this is as close as you can get without breaking the bank ;)

Best tv I have ever owned.
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best tv I have ever owned. Watching movies both in IMAX enhanced mode and in Dolby Vision has changed the way I watch tv. Better than being in any cinema anywhere. This tv is hands down quality, and I have not suffered a single setback (repair) Only downside is I had to add a Roku Ultra HD box as Sony is not compatible with Xfinity. At least with the Roku added, I was able to "sideload" Xfinity. Other than that...great tv!

||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had this tv for over a year and I'm still impressed by it. The colors and resolution are beautiful to say the least. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching movies once again. If i had to say anything negative, i would say be aware that Some movies filmed at night, colors can be very dark.. I've made several adjustments but can't seem to get that brightness that I prefer.. maybe a software update will fix this down the road Other than that I love this tv , highly recommend it. Well worth the cost, no regrets here

Posted .Hi Awesome,
Amazing! Thank you for taking the time to write such an in-depth review of your experience with your A80J Sony OLED TV! We are extremely pleased you're having an enjoyable watching experience with this great TV for over a year now. We're also glad to hear you appreciate the excellent colors and overall performance of the unit. Peak luminance determines how bright it's going to actually be on the average. Now if you love a really bright TV, peak luminance set to high is going to make you very happy. You could bump it down to low if you watch in a dark room, but definitely play around with the peak luminance setting to get what looks best to you. We will pass this feedback to the right department.

||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love the clarity and picture quality. I’ve had it for 2 years now. The only problem I have is that the apps sometimes freeze up on it and I have to restart the TV. No complaints other than that. Beautiful picture. Sound is good. Settings to adjust the picture are very ample. I’d buy Sony again and again.

Breathtaking
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I came from a pretty cheap 50” Samsung 4K that could barely call itself an HDR TV, so when the pixels started dying I jumped on that excuse to get a new TV. Luckily it coincided with sales on the A80J to make room for the 2022 models coming in. I was thinking a 65 inch would be great but as soon as I got into the store to check them out side by side, the 77” is a no brainer. Yes it costs substantially more, but when paired with a good sound system the size of this tv in a dark room is a completely immersive experience. The color banding on just about every movie, show or video you get from a steaming service from video compression is only noticeable if you look extremely closely for it. The colors on it are definitely the best part of it compared to other 4k TVs. They’re obviously not quite as good as on the A90J or the new QDOLED screens, but unless you’re comparing them all side by side, you won’t miss the difference at all. Even streaming services look absolutely phenomenal on here and to 99.99% of people that will be a perfect experience, but when you get a good 4K BD player with a quality 4K BD, it’s pretty much second only to a good movie theater. The brightness is what everyone always says is an issue with OLEDs, which yes is a problem if you for some reason have absolutely no way of closing your blinds, but even with a completely lit up room, I think it gets plenty bright

Great TV and expert level service.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What a fantastic picture. The blacks are completely black, no light at all. The whites are a bright, very distinct white, and the colors are vivid. I have never experienced the high degree of color reproduction before. My 72" Sony rellaces a 55" TV from another manufacturer. It fits perfectly on my entertainment stand that was only supposed to accommodate a 55 inch screen and sits slightly higher than the previous TV. It is also lighter and much easier to hanle than my previous unit. Best Buy came out and set it up very quickly and went over the features of the unit. I would highly recommended this series from Sony, as I am more than pleased with it and I was extremely impressed with the Geek Squad, their knowledge, professionalism, and their patience going through all the features with me and making sure that I had no further questions before leaving.

AMAZING
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am coming from a 14-year-old Panasonic TH-42PZ700U plasma TV, so keep that in mind. That said I purchased these TV because my old plasma finally died. I purchased since I don't want to go the movie theaters anymore (thanks covid) and to play video games at home. I was going to best buy to buy LGC1 but when I was the picture quality of the A80J, I quickly forgot about the LG oled. I am glad I went to best buy to see the tvs in person. The picture quality is out of this world. My movies and PS5 gaming nights never looked better. I could spend hours watching YouTube 4K content. Because I am coming from a Plama TV, I find the TV to be VERY bright. I am quite happy with the brightness during the day. The biggest con for this TV is the annoying ABL that you cannot turn off. This comes into play when you are watching sports. When you a have static image for too long like a score board, the image WILL start to dim. To combat this I sent the image to peak luminance high. I wish there was a setting to turn in off. I also notice some minor image retention. I am always careful with my TV, so no bring problem. Final thoughts: best purchase in my life. Because I purchased this TV for movies, I don't get too frustrated with the ABL. If you do a lot of gaming and watch sports with static images, you're better off getting the LED X95J or the upcoming X95K if you want to keep it in the Sony family. Keep in mind even the LG OLED have the same ABL. SONY give us the setting to turn off ABL please.

Posted .Hi Rosso,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience using your BRAVIA XR A80J. We’ve taken note of your feedback about the ABL kicking in, especially when watching sports. We also appreciate pointing out the peak luminance setting that determines how bright it's going to actually be on the average. Picture settings allow a wide array of changes to color, contrast, motion settings, and brightness that can improve the viewed content on your TV.
If the same image is displayed repeatedly or for long periods of time, image retention may occur. This issue is not a malfunction. The good news is that we have equipped it with functions, [Pixel shift] and [Panel refresh], that are designed to reduce image retention. These functions automatically run according to your TV’s condition or you can run them manually.
Despite your concerns, we're delighted to hear that you've seen the overall improvements of this TV, especially the excellent picture quality compared to your previous TV. With the BRAVIA XR A80J, you will enjoy a premium OLED picture with contrast and color that feels deep, natural, and real. ||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I couldn't be happier with the 77" A80J. I had an entry level, non-HDR 4K TV before this one. I didn't understand what all the HDR/Dolby Vision fuss was about. I totally get it now. The picture quality is stunning. I have a bright room, so I was nervous about OLED. Trust me when I say that the TV's brightness is not an issue, even in the middle of a sunny day. We actually had to turn the brightness down a tad. One of the reasons I bought this model was for the s-center speaker mode for use with the HT-A7000. I still can't believe how much better everything sounds using this feature. It's a game changer. I highly recommend this TV if you have one of the new Sony speaker systems (A7000, A5000 or A9.) I have had minor issues with the TV's OS -- mainly input lag and WiFi signal lost. These are few and far between, and are usually solved with a quick restart. I'm hopeful these will be addressed with a software update. I also upgraded my HDMI cables, which seems to have helped the input lag issue. Overall, I'm very pleased with the A80J. I can't imagine there's a better TV out there in this price range.

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this tv. I recently purchased the LG C1, but it seemed too dim. 77A80J
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.77A80J One of the best TV you can buy at this moment. It gets bright enough for day time but for night time it's just perfect. The black levels can't be matched by an LED tv. This tv when it comes to picture settings is pretty much dialed in out of the box just per each input & app under picture settings select color as expert 1 & select live color to medium, the tv does a great job between true to life color & vividness. Motion is handled well expecialy for people who dislike soap opera effects. Sound is great especially for a flat panel tv. I'd say A80j & A90j the best sound out there nothing comes close. Android "google tv" runs smoothly. Nothing looks fake or out of balance the tv simply looks correct no complains from my end. I see people complaining about the picture doesn't reach all the way at the bottom but that's how the glass is about ¼" sides and top & ½" at the bottom of the glass + the frame is not meant to show picture. Note if mounting it on a wall get a heavy duty full motion mount that can be adjusted. at 77" it's large & in the future when connecting devices being able to just pull forward from the wall it's convenient.

There's a reason why TV reviewers consistently pick OLED TV's as their pick for TV of the year. I waited several years for OLED prices to fall and become more attainable. Coming from a high quality Plasma, perfect blacks & wide viewing angles were a must for me. I spent about 6 months researching TV's and I eventually narrowed it down between the Sony A80J and the LG C1. Both have their pro's and cons. At the end of the day Sony's superior processing was more important to me than LG's extra gaming features. The A80J is stunning when playing UHD content. It also has great upscaling so it can make lower resolution content look really good too. This TV is plenty bright for most living rooms, shockingly brighter than my old plasma. The speaker system on this TV is by far the best I've ever heard on a TV, so adding a sound bar isn't a must if you don't want to. I've had this TV for about 7 weeks now and I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

Absolutely wonderful TV!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wasn't sure the oled price tag would be worth it, but I'm very happy with this TV. I have become very adept at fine-tuning picture quality over the years, often taking a period of several days to really get a life-like picture that provokes unsolicited compliments from visitors to my home. No need with this TV. The picture, out-of-the-box, is stunning. Fine detail is truly amazing, almost to the point of being distracting. Who knew the actors had so many tiny pock marks and other skin imperfections? Color rendition, contrast, light levels - all extremely pleasing as-is. I use an external audio system for the sound, so I can't speak to the quality of the built-in speakers. Others will have to report on that. This is a google-based TV, offering many streaming options resident or available to be added to the onboard memory. I use Roku for streaming, but if it ever quits working, I don't see any reason to replace it. The TV itself will meet my needs. TV function and quality is constantly evolving. This model is significantly better than the five-year-old Sony Bravia UHD it replaced. But, unless 8K or some other as-yet-to-be-announced format becomes the standard, I don't think TV is going to get much better than this any time soon.
