We're really sorry to hear that you're finding the picture quality adjustments difficult and noticing such a big variation between different apps; that certainly sounds frustrating, and we apologize for the less than smooth experience.

For the picture quality issue and the app variation, we'd strongly recommend checking out a feature called "Picture Mode" or "Calibrated mode". These features tries to adjust the settings based on the content (like switching to "Cinema" for a movie app or "Game" for a console).

You can find these settings under the "Display & Sound". Changing one or two of those core settings should help smooth out the differences you're seeing between, say, Netflix and a YouTube stream.

Your TV features an ultra-high-resolution 4K panel (approximately 8 million pixels), which means that lower-resolution content such as 1080P or 720P must be upscaled to fill the larger screen area. On a 85-inch display, this difference can become more noticeable since the original image contains fewer pixels, resulting in a softer or less detailed picture compared to native 4K content.

This is not a malfunction with your TV—it's a normal effect of resolution scaling that all modern 4K TVs experience when displaying lower-resolution sources. Your BRAVIA 5 is designed to deliver exceptional clarity and contrast with 4K content, and it also includes our advanced XR Clear Image to enhance non-4K content as much as possible.

We understand how frustrating this must be, and we believe we can help improve this performance significantly, as the K-85XR50 is designed specifically for smooth motion. The issues you describe are often related to a few settings that can cause motion blur or judder.

To help you resolve this and enjoy the crisp, clear motion you paid for, we highly recommend adjusting the Motionflow setting. Please try the following:

Go to Settings → Display & Sound → Picture → Motion → Motionflow.

Set Motionflow to Custom, and then set the Smoothness slider to a higher value (such as 3 or 4) to reduce blurring in fast-moving scenes.

If adjusting the motion settings does not resolve the issue, please contact our support team directly at https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/support-contact?language=en_US&category=tv so our specialists can guide you through optimizing your specific settings and ensuring the processor is running efficiently.
