I have been a Sony TV fan since the old CRT days, and I will always purchase Sony TV’s when needed. In my opinion, Sony’s video processing cannot be matched when it comes to TV’s. However, the competition is catching up to Sony when it comes to the quality of smart TV’s in 2024. Sony’s 85 inch Bravia 7 is a very good TV. However, I gave it only 4 stars due to the quality of the set. Let me explain... The Mini-LED Bravia 7 has an outstanding picture quality, and it rivals any QLED set on the market. The colors are vibrant, bright, and truly lifelike. Skin tones look spot on to me when you configure the Picture settings properly. Watching movies from an HD 4K Blu-ray disc rivals any top notch movie theater. My reference quality discs look fantastic, and I could not be more pleased with the picture quality. Black levels are great, and they are just a very small step behind Sony’s top OLED model. Blooming on my set is minimal to none. And finally, watching football and playing PS5 and Xbox games is awesome on the set. Sony got this one right. However, it is not a perfect TV. I upgraded to the 85 inch from a 75 inch Sony X90K from 2022. My 75 was moved to my basement. The 75 had developed a greenish hue in a small area of the screen. The hue is only visible when the set displays certain colors. I still don’t know what the heck happened to the set, but my guess is that a few of the LED’s have taken a break from shining as normal. I have never had a Sony TV go bad on me, so when it happened, I was a little surprised. Needless to say, but I was not happy about it. Due to quality issues on the older set, I “had to upgrade” to the Bravia 7. No doubt about it, the 7 is better than the X90K. I have read all about some of the software issues with some of the newer Sony sets, and my new set appears to have a minor issue. However, I am not returning it. It is something that I can deal with. My brand new Sony Bravia 7 likes to be rebooted or restarted before I watch it. When I press the Power button on the remote, the TV will NOT turn on most of the time. Yes! The remote works properly, but I had to go buy a power strip that easily allows me to kill the power and reboot the specific outlet for the TV. After the reboot, the TV runs just fine. I could leave it on for hours and it’s all good. If I power the set off briefly, and the turn it back on, it runs fine. However, if I turn it off for a few hours, I have to restart it. Four Stars. Sony needs to ensure that these things don’t happen to a new set that cost this much. LED burn and software glitches have caused some to move over to other brands like TCL or Hisense. If TCL’s 98 inch QM8 set gets better processing, I might have to consider it. Sony might have some serious competition for my money during my next upgrade session. LOL! For a few hundred dollars more, you can get the 98 inch QM8 over the 85 inch Bravia 7. As for the Bravia 9, all of my comparisons say that it is not worth the price. I would recommend the 85 inch Bravia 7, but I would also say to do some research before you purchase the set. Peace!

Perfect for Media Room / Home Theater Application

I initially had a Sony X90CL but returned it in favor of the Bravia 7, which comes as advertised with brighter screen and more compatibility with audio formats, particularly DTS:X and IMAX Enhanced. It is ideal for dedicated movie theater rooms (small to medium size) and when used in combination with an AV receiver appropriate to your home theater. In this application it really shines. I have read where the viewing angle is a problem with these TVs, but in my media room / home theatre (12' x 15' roughly) it is not an issue at all. The sound quality from the TV speakers, however, seems just average, and does not get very loud, relatively speaking. The X90CL was honestly louder with better sound quality, but is not compatible with DTS:X and IMAX Enhanced soundtracks. The Bravia 7 pairs best with a Sony AV receiver that has S-Center Out to use your TV speakers as additional center channels, and however many channels you want your home theater to accommodate. Overall I think the Bravia 7 is a terrific TV, I just wish the sound quality from the native speakers was better.

Pros: • Fantastic picture quality with vibrant colors and deep blacks, thanks to Mini-LED. • High brightness, making it great for most lighting conditions. • Smooth gaming experience with low input lag and VRR support. • Google TV 12 offers a user-friendly interface and plenty of apps. Cons: • Narrow viewing angles—best enjoyed directly in front. • Reflection handling could be better in bright rooms. • Only two HDMI ports support 4K at 120Hz, which might limit gamers.

Impressive picture, smooth motion, colors are vivid and beautiful. Few artifacts and little blooming. This 85 inch screen does justice to movies and live sports are really stunning to watch on it as well. You WILL need help with this device for unpacking and mounting. It is more than 100lbs. If placing on a stand some safety straps or similar restraints are recommended, especially if kids or pets will be anywhere close to this panel. The feet shipped with the unit are sturdy. But quite wide - you'll need a 19" or wider surface for supporting them. There is a narrow and wide option for feet placement. I used wide when setting up, and they are nearly to the edge of the screen on each side. I wall-mounted this unit, which took two people to accomplish. I used a Sanus mount bought separately at Best Buy that extends and swivels a bit. This made reconnecting cables a lot easier. If you choose to do this, be certain your mount is rated for at least 120 lbs, as pushing or pulling on the panel does add extra load if you need to access the back once it's up. Also, with this weight, you must install the mount in studs to support the weight. Failing to do this can result in disaster. The remote is so simple to use. If you already have a Sony TV your existing remote may work with it as well. Apps have zero lag. Be sure to perform all available updates to the TV software after installing for best performance. I had to run updates 3x for the TV, but these installed quickly. Sound is average. I have this connected to a Sony soundbar which is a huge improvement. Highly recommend adding one. I bought this because after evaluation of this and the same size Bravia 9, it was very hard to see where the additional $1400 was justified for this use case. It has plenty of brightness and the picture is very close in quality between the two. It's a beautiful TV. No regrets for this purchase.

This is to install in a room surrounded with windows. Finally we can see our TV in the daylight instead of sitting in the dark with the window blinds closed. I only wish the remote was backlight. For a $3500 TV, not have a backlight remote is making me want to return it. Looking for a replacement remote from Sony did not help. The ones they recommended only have partial functionality. Sony, I am very disappointed with this. Looking for a replacement remote, OR a different TV. I still have to give it 5 stars due to amazing picture.

Just exceptional picture quality on this 85” Bravia 7, and very bright for the large great room that it is in. I thought about a Bravia 9, but watched the two TVs side by side in the showroom. Not a big enough difference from the Bravia 7, and a huge cost savings. I also compared side-by-side to a Bravia 8 TV. You can see subtly better blacks on the Bravia 8 OLED TV, but I prefer the brighter screen of this mini-LED model. During set-up, ensure you shut off the energy saving mode, or TV will be too dim. Energy saving mode has got to be the dumbest idea, it eliminates the advantage of having a bright mini-LED TV! If I could rate this TV 6 stars, I would.

This is a really good TV — very bright, sharp, and with stunning, vibrant colors. I’m very happy with it overall. The only downside is that it’s a bit heavy to move or mount. Also, while it performs great in bright rooms, the black levels aren’t as deep or rich as what you get on an OLED. That’s why I eventually went with an OLED for my main setup — but this one is still an excellent choice!

Exceptional picture quality. Great brightness and crispness. In the store we could see an ever so slightly improvement in the Bravia 9, this one is nearly as good. Ther are some misleading online reviews about off-angle viewing. We see no reduction in picture quality even when viewing from an angle.

Went from 75" to 85" but with the clarity, blacks, whited and contrast plus the mind blowing colors this blows away the Samsung and our minds with the detail and depth!

I owned the Bravia 7 for two weeks, It's an excellent LCD tv. PQ is very good and upscaling is good. I also bought an LG G3 and compared it side by side to the LCD tv. There was no comparison. The OLED tv was better in everyway. The only down side is the price but if you can afford it the OLED is the way to go. The G3 and G4 get very bright so HDR content looks amazing. In fairness if you don't put both TV's side by side you will be happy with the Bravia. The Sony remote is horrible, You have to point it directly at the tv to get it to work and the buttons are too small. Not a fan. The LG has the magic remote with a moving cursor we love it.
