We'd like to help and make this a better experience. Please check the following below to troubleshoot and isolate picture-related issue:
Press the HOME button on the remote to display the menu screen.
If the issue is not happening on the menu screen, other external sources (such as cable or satellite box, internet video device, or other devices like a DVD player) or cable connections could be the cause of the issue.
Make sure that TV software is updated.
Use a spare cable to replace the currently used one and see if the situation will improve.
If the display turns to gray when watching a TV program, try to perform the following.
Perform a power reset by unplugging the power cord
Turn off the TV.
Unplug the power cord for two minutes, and then plug it back in.
Turn on the TV.
Verify if it resolves the issue.

Giant TV

Picture goes black and loose sound.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this T.V after BestBuy sales associate recommended it I should of done my research before I walked in the store, it would of saved me the hassle of trying to figure out what's wrong with it. To start off after owning it for about a month now while watching a movie the screen just turns black I then have to turn off or switch the channel several times to get the picture to come back (I can still hear the sound from the movie) a few times no sound or picture could be seen or heard. Second every once in a while I get this white pixilation in either the middle or of the center for a few seconds. Third sometimes it doesn't turn on I would have to depress the on button a few times. It's really frustrating for a top brand and a reputable company that knows tv's to have all these issues. If I can't correct these issues I will most likely return the TV such a shame I really like Sony products.

Falls short on promises

I bought the 85" X800H in September. Now the Tampa TV stations are broadcasting in ATSC 3.0 the NextGen 4k TV tuner promised has still not appeared from Sony and no word on when. The TV software intermittently will freeze and the Android OS reboots. This usually occurs when changing TV channels but has also occurred using Apps. The Media Server App is very poor and typically cannot play any 4k format. I haven't had trouble with older formats, 1080p, 720p etc.

Thank you for purchasing the XBR85X800H. While we're glad to hear that you like the TV, we regret to hear that you're having troubles with the unit. We'd like to help troubleshoot and make this a better experience.
Unfortunately, this model currently supports ATSC 1.0. Support for ATSC/NEXTGEN TV (ATSC 3.0) will be available to the XBR X900H series TVs through a future software update.

To enjoy 4K or HDR content on your favorite apps, please check the following below:
The required procedure depends on the content source and your TV.
Check if your subscription service support 4K. To enjoy 4K content with some services such as Netflix, you must subscribe to a specific plan such as a premium plan.
To enjoy 4K, you must select content that supports 4K (UHD). To enjoy HDR, you must select content that supports HDR (HDR10 or Dolby Vision).
If the picture setting of the streaming service app is not set to auto or high, you cannot enjoy 4K/HDR content at the best quality.
If your network is not fast enough, you cannot enjoy 4K/HDR content at the best quality. The required network speed depends on the service.

DEFECTIVE TV | DO NOT BUY
