I chose this over the A7C and a6000 series. As a beginner its going to take a while to get used to all the buttons but i love the versatility.

Sony needs to add a battery charger to the box like all other camera manufacturers. I don't like charging the battery through the camera. Add another $50-$90 to the purchase depending on your charger of choice. I would not let the lack of an external charger sway your decision. I want Sony to add the charger for future buyers. Awesome camera!

I use a camera for my business - product shots (art/collectables) and like to shoot my girl's track events. At 5fps, it's slower and not ideal. I own an a6000, and at 11fps, it makes more sense. I did however, want the full frame for product shots. And this camera didn't work well with the telephoto lense I got. So, back to the store. I considered the a6500, but ultimately got the a7III - more fps, many, many more autofocus points. It works very nicely with my telephoto. Basically, if I am going to use it for the next ten year...I decided to pay more for it. My grandmother said "get what you want. You'll always be happy with it." I agree.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend Can't beat the Eye AF

Eye AF is amazing and helps me pay attention to capturing fleeting moments and expressions rather than spending time trying to keep the focus indicator on a subject's eyes. Eye AF is now becoming more common on Canon and Nikon mirrorless cameras, but Sony was a few years ahead of the game.

Finally The Upgrade I needed

Love the eye autofocus, the silent shooting feature and dual card slots. Now, they better not introduce a A74 this year... I’d be a bit disappointed

What a great match and a decision I made. I simply love the camera and how it handles shotting. It also fits perfectly in my hands when I am shooting. I still love my Canon cameras but Sony definitely has the edge and far advanced when it comes to mirrorless cameras.
