Camarera used
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The camera arrived with signs of use, without cables to charge batteries, the box was a battered mess, apparently the use kept it for a long time since it had quite a few shots in the photography record.

Couldn't be happier with my A7iii!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At this point, I have had the A7iii for a couple months now and have clicked roughly 3000 images - mainly of family, pets, and my 6 months old babygirl. I can honestly say that these are some of the best images I have ever clicked and that this camera has helped elevate my photography to a whole new level. I would recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat! A little background and more details... I had been a dedicated Canon user for 10+ years with 70D (APS-C sensor) for my last camera. Unfortunately that camera had front and back focusing issues even though I had micro-adjusted all my lenses to it. I was so used to clicking 3-4 extra images for those can't-miss moments just to be sure one of them was a keeper. Earlier this year, I decided to go full-frame and lucky for me, Sony had just announced the A7iii with features that were years ahead of anything Canon/Nikon had to offer at similar price point. After weeks of reading rave reviews from pros and amateurs alike, I pulled the trigger and ordered my A7iii along with the 24-70GM lens. After 2 months of using Sony gear, I couldn't be happier with my move. Here are a few pros and cons that you may not find in other reviews. Pros: - Eye AF: The hype is real! The Eye AF works (90% of the time) incredibly well and makes it super easy to take portraits. With it on, most pictures are so razor-sharp that I can zoom into the eyes of the subject and find my own reflection. And that's not an exaggeration! - Excellent Low-light capability: On my Canon, I rarely pushed past 1000 ISO because of high noise in low-light images. With A7iii, I haven't purchased a flash yet so I am regularly forced to shoot in 10,000 - 12,500 range and the images still looking stunning after processing. - Less time in post-processing: Compared to 70D, I find that less of my images need post-processing now and the ones I do have to process take less time. - File size: At one point, I was seriously considering the A7(R)iii but now I am glad that I chose this camera. The 50MB files (uncompressed RAW) from this camera already make my 2014 Macbook Pro feel slightly sluggish. Can't imagine what 80-90MB files from A7Riii would have done to my computer. Cons: - Sony software is worthless: the RAW processing software installed 3 different apps - a photo manager, an editor and a remote shooting app. I found the apps a pain to use so ended up uninstalling after the first week and purchased Capture One Pro. - No built-in flash: I personally miss having a built-in flash. In most low-light situations, I could take out my 70D from the bag and start snapping in seconds. I don't own an external flash for A7iii but past experience tells me it will definitely take longer to get snapping when I have to attach an external flash. With all that said, I still rate this camera a solid 5 stars because of the incredible difference it has already made in my photos.

Excellent hardware, mediocre software
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The good: As full frame cameras go it's a great price. I've been very happy with the image quality and video capabilities. The battery life is significantly better than my A6500 crop sensor Sony. The build quality is also top notch. The OK You've already probably heard about the terrible menu, terrible manual and lack of touch screen menu interaction. That actually doesn't bother me quite as much as it does other reviewers. There are tons of setup guides for it on Youtube and tons of customization with the hardware buttons and with the Fn menu. There are a few things I want to put on the Fn menu that I can't, but overall once it's setup to your liking it's pretty easy to operate. The Bad: No flip out screen. I mean, c'mon, that's been a staple of DSLR's for decades. Also, no charger in the box. If I'm dropping 2 grand on a camera body, you could either go ahead and provide one or just raise the price by $5 or $10. I guarantee nobody will notice that as much as they notice having to plug the body in to charge. The worst: Sony really needs to get their act together with regards to software. Most camera companies turn out some pretty bad software but Sony really takes the cake here and in fact seems to be worse now than it was a couple years ago with my a6500. Transferring images to a mobile device is a hassle. Getting them to the computer relentlessly is a hassle. The NFC connection setup doesn't seem to work at all regardless if you're on Apple or Android. And this brings me to my final point: This camera is not platform agnostic. It, at least as of this review works MUCH BETTER on Android. I can't even get the app to connect to the camera on my iphone XS with everything updated, and a few months ago when I could, getting it to do so was a pain and only sort of worked. On my Samsung Galaxy S 10: no problem. Connected and working like a charm.

Not the camera you’re looking for!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this Kit a few weeks back, as every review out there spoke about how good it is. Well, reality vs potentially sponsored reviews are not always in sync. Here’s what was actually good about the camera... AF was very fast with native lenses. Sensor has very low noise. Video has a ton of good features and works fairly well. Here’s what’s not so good about the camera. The Meter is not in sync with the capabilities of the sensor and things that should be better handled by the meter often leave you with lost data in the Highlights (I know how to use a cameras meter, this one is just very liberal with its settings). Skin tones are among the worst I’ve ever had in a camera and two other people who bought this camera reached out to me to tell me they felt the same way. Eye Auto Focus only works if the subject is facing the camera and even then it depends heavily on the lens for locking on. As soon as your subject turns their head at even the slightest angle away from the camera, it is unable to get a lock on the visible eye. Sony set the contrast so low in the images, in order to get a bette Dynamic Range out of the camera, that you literally have to use their best lenses (with great microcontrast) in order to get a decent looking image out of the camera. Another point of failure is the fact that the camera doesn’t come with an external battery charger and that creates major issues where you’re likely to snap the door off while trying to charge the camera via the plug that was provided. Even more, the menu driven controls has you going through about 100 pages of controls just to configure the camera. It’s one of the worst menu systems you’ll ever use and this is compounded by the ridiculously poor content in the cameras manual! The literally layout the whole camera menu system in the manual and fail to thoroughly explain several settings. If you’re looking st this body and you don’t need the 5 FPS burst rate, just go ahead and grab the A7R II, you won’t regret that decision.

Far beyond what you pay for
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm an ex-Nikon full-frame shooter (D810) who switched to Sony when the A7Riii came out. I couldn't be happier with the RIII, but needed a backup so bought the A7iii when it came out, thinking it will play second fiddle. Was I wrong! A7iii is the little brother who outruns the older brother a little too often. If you want to see where the A7Riii ranks amongst other full frames, do some research. You will find most experts put it above the venerable 5DMk4 and tied with the D850. Well, in many ways, the a7iii beats the a7riii. Focus coverage is better. If you like shooting wildlife or sports, the a7iii's focusing system is more closely related to the "biggest brother" a9, than the a7riii, and it's the one you want. a7riii has amazing iso performance and dynamic range and blows its Canon counterparts out of the water, well the a7iii is better in this department too. File management with a7riii 43mp file (80mb uncompressed RAW) can be difficult, and the 24mp on the a7iii hits the sweet spot for most photographers. It matches the a7riii's great 10fps burst rate, which according to most reviews is double to triple what Canon's and Nikon's new full-frame mirrorless can do in real world. Any camera deserving of the "Pro" label requires dual memory slots. Hard drives go bad, solid state drives go bad, xqd cards go bad, and yes, sd cards go bad. I have been using digital cameras now for about 18 year, and I have had card failures about 6 times. Some may say that doesn't seem frequent enough to be worrying about it. Imagine saying that to your grandparents, who asked you to shoot their 50th anniversary, and that's when the card error happens.. worse yet, imagine being responsible for someone's wedding pictures. Well, unlike it's Canon and Nikon mirrorless counterparts, the a7iii has you covered in this department too, so you can have instant backups of all your pictures. So, what's the catch? Well, there is no perfect camera, and this one is no exception. The LCD screen on the a7riii is nothing to write home about, and the a7iii has it worse. The viewfinder on the a7riii is amazing, while on the a7iii, it's kind of okay. Unlike its Canon counterpart, its LCD screen does flip towards the front of the camera (only tilts up and down), so if you are looking for a camera for vlogging, look at Canon. Bottom line, the shortcomings of this camera are not related to the quality of pictures that you take with this camera. A so, so, LCD screen will not impact what people will see as your pictures.

All around a great camera!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I switched from Nikon to Sony, and it was the best decision ever. The camera has great dynamic range and excellent colors. The camera is not as heavy as other DSLR's I've used in the past. The only issue is the menu system is very cluttered and not user friendly, but it gives you the option to customize the entire camera body as you wish.

A timeless camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am really considering to purchase another body, its an all rounder camera even in 2023. I bought mine in 2019 and until now it's the most used camera among all other camers I own. Extremely good performance in low light, great dynamic range, fantastic auto focus system etc. If you are on a budget and considering to spend less, get this camera. You'll never regret.

Best for photos! My main travel camera.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's my main camera for travel photography and I feel it's perfect in every way. I love that for an entry-level pro camera it's pretty small and light. I will admit I am spoiled by the Sony a6600's amazing live real-time autofocus tracking in which the a7 III doesn't have, but surely they will implement it in the newer a7 IV. For those shopping for cameras I would say the a6600 is the better camera for video and the a7 III is better for photos (I have both).
