As a point a shot camera it's ok. It's hard to work and you have to go online to get the manual. It was a gift so it will do. I would have not bought this one for myself.

I would definitely just get the A5100 if you can and you’re just starting out. Don’t bother with this outdated model.

Amazing DSLR Camera for a great price

I LOVE this camera! It takes great quality photos and is very easy to use. One of my favorite features is the remote option where I can use my smartphone to take pictures with my camera. I took MY OWN family pictures this weekend and this helped me so I didn't have to run back and forth from camera to posing to see how the picture turned out. The only thing I would change is the flash is not high enough and sometimes you get the shadow of the lens in your picture due to the flash. But otherwise I this is the best camera I've ever had, and its DSLR! Even better. And I got it for a great price, compared to the cost of other DSLR cameras. I love it!

Reviews were good for this so I bought it. Outside shots that are taken at a distance might be fine, but inside photo taking with a light box at a regular distance were not good. My iPhone takes better shots. I returned it. To Best Buy's credit, I bought online, returned in store and had the money back in my account in 2 days. It was a super easy return as well.

    Great camera for casual photographer

We wanted a camera that was more than a point & shoot, but did not want a DSLR. Neither of us is a great photographer, and we didn't want to be burdened carrying a DSLR kit -- to big, heavy, inconvenient. This camera is small and is easily carried. It takes beautiful pictures and is easy to use. The only downside is that almost all of the controls are menu driven, so you have to scroll through menus to change a lot of settings. If you are a "serious" photographer, this is not the camera for you. But if you are a casual photographer that wants to take better pictures and a camera that is fast enough to keep up with an active 5 year old, this is a great option. Also, with the changeable lenses, you have a lot more options. Very happy with this purchase.

The camera doesn't zoom in enough - I purchased an additional zoom lens and the lens is so long and heavy that it's awkward and uncomfortable to hold and shoot. I have a fortune tied up in this camera and it just sits in the closet! Anyone interested in a never used camera?

Hi Nickle, We're saddened to hear that the telephoto zoom lens failed to meet your needs, but we still appreciate the feedback. Most zoom lenses are long and heavy because their main purpose is to zoom to far away subject without losing details in the image. .Regards, Zander

    Haven't Lost Yet

I've been wanting to get into photography for some time now, recently returned from Europe and was able to use a friend's Canon DSLR, and loved it of course. Played around with all the different features and the muiltshot grabbed my heart quick. Looking at the a5000, 5100, and 6000 when I returned seemed like a no brainer, because I never go with what everyone else has (DSLRs), and while I miss the feel of the professional weight and full frame of a DSLR, the compact mirrorless line is blasting away the competition. I went with the Sony a5000 and 55-210mm lens bundle deal because I was lucky enough to find both open-item at my local store, you guys have to look for those awesome deals! Haven't regretted it yet, I've been taking pro level shots for friends and family events and its been a blast. The ONLY downside I have for the 5000, that the 6000 has and also any DSLR, is that there is no view finder and that it feels like a point and shoot, I got over that quick with the interchangeable lens'. Good shooting friends!

I bought the camera a month ago and used it for one month straight until the camera wouldn't recognize the lens. And then Best Buy wouldn't fix it as if was past the 30 day return policy. So they had to send it back to Sony!

I have a NEX-5 since couple of years and had to recommend a camera to my best friend. Looking at this a5000 in best buy store, I kinds loved the sleeker design and at an affordable price. We took the camera on our trip to DC and he loves the pictures. unlike older versions of the camera which has flash as an add-on, this a 5000 has built in flash that you could pop-up. Great picture quality, easy handling and sleek design are the highlights.

Bought this camera for our trip to Disney, it worked for 2 hours and then shows an error that it can't detect the lens. Needless to say I'm returning it as soon as I return from vacation.

Very nice compact system. The picture and video quality is close to that of my DSLR and portable like my point-and-shoot camera. If you want a camera that takes great quality photos but is lightweight, a compact system like the Sony a5000 is a perfect product.

    Big sensor, small camera

I wanted the smallest camera with an APSC sensor, in camera panorama and no shutter lag. If you have similar interests, go to BestBuy and hold the A6000 and the A5000 and check out all the similar features. The differing features like no hot shoe, view finder or microphone hookup are no loss to me, nor is an ISO over 2500. This camera has instant focus, instant shutter, sharp photos. The A6000 is newer and has been getting most of the reviews so I was intent on buying that model. BestBuy has a display of Sony ILC cameras and I was very disappointed when I saw the A6000. I could hear a voice telling me don't buy another camera that is too large and too heavy. Luckily, there was also an A5000 on display and I began to check it out for the first time. The salesman described that it has nearly the same features as the A6000 except it is smaller, much lighter, comes with the same kit zoom lens. It fit into my pocket and it was also $300 less. In fact their price was the same as Amazon. Whatever camera you decide on, use BestBuy's buy it, try it and return it w/in 2 weeks opportunity. After 500 test shots I knew I wanted it. The salesman, Victor, hooked up the wireless so I can transfer pictures to my tablet, use it as a remote monitor or shutter release. Service is another reason to buy at BestBuy.
