I did not do that much research prior to buying this camera but I did compare this model to the Sony a6000. What I found is that they are very similar in features and this Sony a5100 just looked nicer to hold. I also saw various traveling v logs on youtube and the youtubers had used this particular camera, the video quality looked AMAZING. That is really why I bought it, I haven't used it much but the quality of video is outstanding as well as the photo quality. You just cannot compare the quality of photos this camera takes to an iphone. I'm very excited to use this camera on my travels!

Love this camera, I purchased it over the A6000 because this model still has the flip-up front-facing screen. It has really helped with my vlogging and allowing me to get a bit better video at a nicer angle while shrinking the form factor from my Nikon D5300 that I had previously. One thing to note the video only shoots in 1080P but as I'm, vlogging with it I don't need anything higher.

This is a great compact camera for when you want pictures that look professional but don’t want a huge camera with changeable lenses.

This camera is amazing! It took little to no time to get the hang of it. It takes amazing pictures. I also love that you can send pictures directly to my phone!

The camera by it's self is great. Perfect entry level to DSRLwith out the SRL, mirrorless so less moving parts to go bad. Some advanced features that will serve you well into your advanced photography. So Why 3 stars? Setup and usage of the wifi/upload features are complicated and burdensome. The average consumers need are not met with this camera. Instant upload to Google or ICloud is not as simple as shoot a pic and it uploads on its own. Too many extra steps. Go forward with this purchase knowing your cheap cell phone does things that this will never do and visa versa.

It’s heats up while recording for long periods of time but the pictures are clear. And videos are also clear. Good for beginners- affordable and easy to use manually and automatically.

I love the flip up screen from this camera, but I dislike the fact that it over heats. And it turns off by itself.

Great little camera. Use it for semi professional shots and video. It is powerful and can take some amazing shots. Playing around with all the settings, The automatic settings work well for the beginner photographer or for someone with a bit more experience. I have taken this camera with me on many trips and the charge last at least a day with heavy use. I recommend this camera.
