    Awesome camera

I bought this camera roughly a year ago, so I've had the chance to use it extensively before writing this review. Like most cameras, it's not perfect, but I have found it to be an overall outstanding camera. Rather than write a long, long story, I'll get into the pros and cons. First, I purchased this as an "Open Box" deal from Best Buy and probably saved about $500 at the time of purchase. PROS - Great full-frame sensor with excellent resolving power. Colors are accurate, and noise is reasonably well controlled. I don't have any issues with this sensor. - FAST! When set to Continuous Shooting - High, you'll be impressed with how quickly it rattles off shot after shot. I've been shooting some fashion runway shows, and you need a fast camera. This fits the bill. - Electronic viewfinder. Compared with an optical viewfinder, I would go with an electronic viewfinder any day. This allows you to see real-time changes when setting white balance, and there is no comparison when it comes to magnified views for manual focus. - Quality of construction. This camera is built rock solid. It has a good amount of heft to it. You can tell that this is built to stand up to hard use. - The various markings are engraved and filled, which means that they won't wear off in a couple of years. Unlike other cameras that I've owned. - You can easily dial in exposure compensation or magnify the image for manual focus. I have found this to be a very friendly camera. I don't have to "fight" the camera to use it. CONS - The body is too short. I have average-sized man hands, and the camera needs to be a bit taller for a firm grip. I bought an aftermarket battery grip, which makes it a bit too tall (win some, lose some). - Getting to some menu items requires too many button presses. In general, the camera takes the Asian design approach of filling most space on the body with buttons and dials and leaving it up to you to memorize the location and function of each. I actually don't have a solution to this. - Major battery hog. In addition to the limited number of frames per battery charge, this camera seems to suck power even when it's turned off. After a week, the battery usually has dipped to about 60%. I went to an external battery solution, because the worst thing to happen is to lose power in the middle of a shoot. OTHER COMMENTS I sold the kit lens, as I found that I rarely used it. It's a bit larger than I wanted for a kit lens, and instead I bought the Sony G 70-200mm zoom, which was used to take the attached image. When I want to use a kit zoom, I borrow the one from my Sony NEX-7. This lens is average at best. I have only shot a few minutes of video, as I have dedicated video cameras, so I can't speak to video performance. This camera has heft to it, and when I get really lazy, I opt for the NEX-7. When shooting with manual focus lenses, I found that my hit rate decreased. Using a manual focus lens with a full-frame sensor requires more attention when focusing. I tend to use the magnify function, which makes a difference. Overall, I think this is an awesome camera. It is well worth the money that I paid. The black and white shot was taken with my manual-focus Rollei QBM f/1.8 50mm Planar - my favorite SLR lens.

I shoot with a Nikon full frame but wanted something smaller, I found this Sony full frame camera and it's exactly what I was looking for, light and easy to use. I will probably purchase the Sigma 24-70mm in the near future and something that like my Tamron 70-300 that I use on my Nikon. For now the the 28-70mm kit lens is doing fine.

This is a great camera with excellent dynamic range. I’m also using some adapters to use my old OM and K mount lenses on it and it’s been really fun. Can’t recommend it more.

    Amazing camera awesome full frame

This is a huge upgrade for me from a crop sensor. It shoots breathtaking stills and has professional tools like white balance scene setting (no need for light meter) my only complaint is how Sony makes apps for the camera that should be free, like time lapse and stop motion.

Read so many reviews about sony mirrorless compared to DSLRs. I'm so glad I went mirrorless. So much easier to use, love the electronic viewfinder, and produces great quality photos. The A7ii is also rated the most well rounded sony mirrorless for the price, taking into consideration ISO performance and focusing system.

I migrated to mirrorless cameras with a Sony NEX 7 about three years ago because of its lighter weight. I had previously owned Canon 7D and Rebel XT bodies and an assortment of lenses. I loved the lighter weight and was very satisfied with the image quality. Along comes the a7 full frame series. I was intrigued, but it wasn't until the a7 II came along that I was ready to pull the trigger. The images from this new camera are really excellent, and I'm very satisfied with my purchase. The only negatives to this camera are a continued paucity of FE lenses and lousy battery life. Sony has announced some new lenses, but nothing has hit the market yet. I will order the FE 24-240 as soon as it appears. (Aside: I have used a Tamron E-mount 18-200 lens on the a7 II and it works fine, but obviously is not a full-frame lens.) Both of the uploaded photos were taken with the FE 28-70 kit lens.

I have had several Sony mirrorless cameras & also a Nikon & a Canon DSLR. Sony has always been my favorite. I love everything about them. This model of camera was a gift from my husband for Christmas. I have been wanting a full frame for awhile but couldn’t justify spending the money on one. He said he got a very good deal with this one. So far I am very impressed with how fast it is compared with my Sony a6000. Some of the settings are in different places so I am still learning how to use the camera, but I am very impressed so far. The images are beautiful even in low light. (I took pics of my 6mo baby with no light except Christmas lights) The only down side would be how much heavier it is compared to my a6000. That certainly won’t stop me from using it! I am looking forward to all the awesome photos I will be taking with it!

Mirrorless that's way ahead of the game

Sony has pulled out all the stops on their A7 line of mirrorless cameras and the A7II is no exception. They are so far ahead of the game when it comes to these cameras that the other brands haven't even announced a compact mirrorless full frame and Sony has already released 7 of them. The camera has nearly every feature you could want and the customizable buttons are nothing short of wonderful. Yes the lens selection could be better but it continues to grow with exceptional products and you cannot argue that it's only getting better - especially with the introduction of the Zeiss Loxia 21mm f/2.8 and the Zeiss Batis 25mm f/2. When a company like Zeiss takes the time to put out amazing lenses like these, one should take notice and know that there is a bright future ahead for both the A7 series and the e-mount lens ecosystem. If you're making a switch from canon or Nikon, their are top of the line electronic lens adapters that allow you to keep your current set of glass and if you're in the a-mount family already, the Sony adapters are awesome - especially with the most recent firmware update which enhances the autofocus via the adapters to nearly native response times. Sony is just getting started with full frame mirrorless cameras and I'm very proud to be an owner of their A7II after owning the NEX-5N for years prior!

Although there was a learning curve after using a Canon for so many years the fine detail and stunning color of pictures with the Sony Alpha a7ii is amazing! Especially coupled with a 300 mm zoom lens it is spectacular for capturing true to color portraits, scenes, action shots and my favorite....birds! Even taking shots from a distance and printing up to 13x19 prints the details down to the feathers, eyes and toenails of my favorite creatures are amazing. This is my second Sony Alpha7ii camera as I flipped my kayak unexpectantly while shooting photos and happy to have another.....

This review will will be short and sweet from an ex canon user. I was previously shooting with a canon 70d so this is an upgrade for me. Image wise there's no doubt amazing quality with high ISO and little grain as opposed to the 70D. I love this camera minus some key features it's missing, touch screen, an app that has ability to adjust shutter speed/aperture, and built in apps. My main grip is the fact you can't adjust shutter speed or aperture with Sony memories app on the A7 II. Other than that the camera surpasses my previous crop sensor and takes amazing high res images!

I'm not a professional photographer. My wife has iPhone 11 Pro and I have Samsung Galaxy S20+. Both these phone cameras do well. The most annoying thing is trying to photograph my 4 yr old. She never stands still. Her photos are always blurry. This Sony A7 II is superb. All pictures comes in sharp. I have full control on which to focus. This is better than my older SLR (Canon rebel). The OLED viewfinder is great. I enjoy snapping pictures. For some, the picture looks better than the naked eye. I'm happy with this purchase.
