It does everything it claims to do! The only downside is the mic is not the greatest, but still very good overall.

I needed a second camera angle that was similar to the a6400 that is being phased out of production and this is perfect. It’s actually a better camera with the headphone jack, flip out articulating screen and it’s cheaper.

Impossible to beat this quality at this price. Any vloger should have it. Small light and powerful , makes video and photography easy on the auto modes but for the more demanding users manual modes will do the job perfectly

When Sony A7 III launched just a few years ago, a lot of photography enthusiasts and content creators were excited. For months the camera was sold out everywhere. Almost a decade ago when Sony launched NEX 7, the excitement was also there. Sony’s debut to the SLR scene was the Alpha 100 and it was a well-received and very exciting product at the time as it introduced in-body sensor stabilization as the breakthrough technology. I happened to own or had owned all of these cameras, which I think offered a lot of value for what it’s worth. Sony ZV-E10 is exactly that. This camera packed a lot of features that should please content creators and is a massive improvement over what Sony had to offer in the past. TL;DR this is a great camera that does its job well and offers good value for what it’s worth. This camera seems to be designed with content creators’ need in mind. With that said, this is an audio-visual recording device first and photography tool second and it is aimed at enthusiasts, not professional videographers. However, it is not unusual to see professional videographers using it as a second camera or even the primary camera in some uses. So, if you prioritize on having a camera for photography, this may not be the right tool for you although that in absence of an electronic viewfinder, this camera still performs well as a general-purpose photography tool. The camera is not as good as the full frame A7 series but the image quality is comparable, if not better, to other similar crop sensor cameras. Sony ZV-E10 is an APS-C interchangeable lens compact camera. The camera uses APS-C sensor meaning it uses larger sensor than most compact cameras and much larger sensors than your phone’s camera. The result is better visual quality, that is due to the ability to capture more details and higher dynamic range, so Sony ZV-E10 should not fail you in this area most of the time. Video quality is great, the camera offers a lot: high bitrate codec, SLOG 3 profile, image stabilization and the star of the show is actually the ability to change lenses to a myriad of selection that Sony and other lens manufacturers have to offer. If you own Sony’s FE and E lenses, this camera is a no brainer to add in your arsenal of content creation tool. My favorite lens is the versatile Sony E 18-105mm F/4 power zoom G OSS lens. When I want to make it very light and keep the camera in my pocket, I would use the pancake lens that I got for my NEX camera a decade ago. The 16-50mm kit lens is also nice due to its light and compact design, and of course not to mention its OSS lens stabilization system. I really like that the camera is still so compact with the kit lens. It is small for what it can do and so light. The lens features power zoom, which turns your camera into a small Handycam. Zooming in and out is smooth with this lens. I would recommend getting a good camera grip like the Sony Bluetooth grip when going with this setup. Sony offers a vlogger accessory kit that offers both the Bluetooth grip and memory card. When you pair the camera with a tele zoom like the Sony E 70-350mm lens, you’re taking this camera to another level. You will need a tripod if you intend to create stabile video footage when using this tele lens. Gone is the need to position your camera closer to the stage when shooting school performances. Your camera can be comfortably position way back and far from the crowd. At 350mm focal length, the camera enables you to capture subject from a distant. Bottom line is, this camera is compatible with many lens options out there from prime, short zoom to tele lens. My entire Sony lens collection for full frame (FE lens) and APS-C camera E lens and even my old Minolta A-mount lens when using the correct lens adaptor are all useable. This camera is a very powerful tool for creativity considering those lenses in mind. One problem that I have in the past when using Sony’s Alpha, NEX and A series cameras for video shooting is overheating of sensor. Sony ZV-E10 does not seem to have this problem as you can shoot videos for more than an hour until the battery is depleted. However, I’m not sure if the performance will sustain in outdoor condition when the day is very hot. Shooting a vlog is easier with features that really matter: swivelling screen so that you can watch the video live as you’re pointing the lens at yourself and talking to the camera, bokeh button and reliable auto focus. There is also the product showcase feature, which will direct auto focus to an object you want to present in front of the camera. Without activating this specific feature, the camera will try to focus on the person in front of the camera instead of the object that the person wants to present. The built-in microphone works well in picking up sounds in front of the camera. Sony even included a microphone windshield. The quality should be good enough for most uses and you can always upgrade to external microphone for even better audio quality. It is a nice surprise that Sony includes both headphone and microphone input jack so this means that you can use any microphone (not just Sony branded) and monitor the sound at the same time. My microphone setup is Sony ECM- XYST1M, which plugs right into Sony’s proprietary hot shoe and able to record stereo sounds. I also have a shotgun type monaural microphone. There is just a couple of things that I have to bear in mind when shooting videos with this camera and this has something to do with the stabilization system, lens selection and framing. First, the camera’s electronic stabilization system crops the picture so you may want to remember this when not using a wide-angle lens. I kind of wish that Sony uses sensor shift image stabilization system but it’s not a big deal since electronic image stabilization system (EIS) seems to work ok. I’m not a big fan of EIS as I still think that sensor shift technology is better while Sony’s balanced optical stabilization system (BOSS) is the best in terms of performance. But having an EIS to work alongside with Optical Stabilization System (OSS) of the lens is still better than just having only OSS to do the job. If you shoot videos without activating the image stabilization system, the picture will not get cropped while the gyro data is still being recorded by the camera so you will rely solely on the lens’ OSS to stabilize the video. The gyro data stored in the video file is useable when you apply video stabilization in post process by using Sony’s Catalyst Browse software. It seems that the video will not be cropped as bad as if image stabilization were active when shooting the video. It may not be convenient to do this as part of your post-production work flow and not to mention that you did not have the exact framing when you shot the video if you post processed the image stabilization this way. Second, this is an APS-C camera. For those of you who got used with full frame sensor cameras like Sony A7 series and have been using Sony FE lenses, APS-C sensor changes full frame lens focal length meaning your subject will be captured by the camera closer than what you expect when using a full frame camera. This is the norm because APS-C sensor is smaller than the full frame. As a vlog camera, Sony also offers the feature to use the camera as a webcam so you can broadcast your content live through social media. It’s a nice feature to have particularly because this camera will likely outperform any webcams out there. Using the camera for shooting video is simple and enjoyable. The auto mode makes it simple and works well for general purpose. Auto focus is reliable and fast enough. The LCD screen is bright enough. I particularly like the bokeh switch so I can quickly add more background blur in an instant. There’s a soft skin feature so you can make the skin of the subject appears smoother, for example if the subject wants to conceal facial acnes, scars etc. I also like the zooming function available with certain lens like the kit lens, which makes the whole experience seems like I’m using a Handycam but in a totally different form factor. It’s reminiscent of the past being updated and brought to live in today’s technology. The biggest highlight of the camera is actually its price. As an owner of Sony cameras across different product lines, I think the camera offers great value. I like this camera so much that I would be leaving my Sony A7 III at home when I’m out and about and sure that most of the content I’d be creating is video. Ok so we have come to the conclusion that this is a great camera. The kit lens will get you started just fine though that the magnification factor (zooming) is not much. The first thing to invest in is a good high-capacity memory card that can support capturing high bitrate 4K videos. Don’t jeopardize your video by using cheap generic brand memory cards. Next maybe you want to buy external microphone and additional lens sometime in the future, after all this is a camera that offers the opportunity to grow with you. This camera is a keeper that should satisfy your content creation needs for years to come. So who is this camera for? Those who are enthusiastic about creating content. Those who are looking to get a Handycam but are not sure if the thing is even exist anymore today. Those who are thinking of getting an action camera for creating content but never have the intention to do any high energy sports scenes, high impact outdoor actions, or have the need to have a water-resistant camera. This is also a good all-rounder camera for those who are looking for a compact vacation camera. Or this could be a great camera for those who want to update their tech and seek a great value in their investment.
