Props to them for being psychics because I have no idea what year or how large my TV is.

It required several steps, and the remote was not intuitive (use the ok button, not the play button, if you want to play a DVD. )

Defective, returned

It seems to stem from the power cord being a separate connection to the unit rather than being hard wired to it. This causes connection problems sometimes resolved by unplugging/replugging the cord on the back of the unit. The power connection to an AC outlet also takes up more space than a regular cord connection would. My first unit purchased years ago didn't display this problem until after the return period had expired. I thought the problem might be fixed but fortunately my recent purchase revealed this problem the first day. I have a regular Sony DVD player with a normal power connection and have no problem with it.

Not loving it

I must say the picture quality is pretty poor and the color that it creates is bizarre. I don’t recommend this. The one I purchased may have been defective. I don’t know.

While this model is our reliable, entry-level Blu-ray player, it should still deliver a crisp 1080p HD picture with natural colors thanks to our TRILUMINOS Color technology.
If the colors look "bizarre," it is possible there is a handshake issue with the HDMI cable or a setting on the TV it's connected to. However, if the picture quality is consistently poor across different discs, it’s also possible the unit itself isn't performing as it should. We would love to help you troubleshoot this or check your warranty status to make sure your gift recipient gets the quality experience Sony is known for.
