I just bought 2 Blu Ray players, 1 Sony and 1 Samsung. This one turns on and that's about it. It won't play any movies at all and flashes blue lights and turns itself off. I am taking it back and sticking to the Samsung from now on.

Thoroughly and completely disappointed with this Sony Blu-Ray player. I previously purchased a Sony home theater system with the Blu-ray player and had problems with it so I decided to try a simple Blu-Ray player. I regularly have streaming issues with this player despite having sufficient bandwidth. Several of the apps are poorly designed and/or quit functioning, especially the HULU app. I recently updated the Sony software and now the HULU programs I was watching will throw error messages such as 'the application cannot open because it's too large' and will not play. Prior to that the HULU application would experience delays between loading the audio and video (audio would play for 15 to 30 seconds or more with a black HULU screen and no video). Posts on Sony.com do not have a resolution for the issue. Factory resets, software updates and power recycles have done nothing to resolve the issue or any other issues. Experienced similar results with response times with applications on the Blu-Ray player for the Home Theater system. Other issues include significant delays and response times with other applications responding to poorly to navigational controls from the remote (pause, play, stop, fast forward, reverse, etc.). Also experienced issues with login credentials periodically being dropped from various applications at different times with no reason. I have been a longtime user of Sony (and Pansonic) products. Now I am steering clear of Sony-branded products as I am disgusted with the poor design and quality of these aforementioned products.

I purchased 3 Sony dvd players in the past year and retured each one and bought a Samsung player, Sony is going down hill.

I would not recommend this to anyone. It would not work. Took it back and got a Samsung like I had before.

The SonyBDPS5500 is a very small and speedy BD player with a cleaner and upgraded interface (I have an older Sony BD player that is much more sluggish). It has played every disk flawlessly so far, even a few that were scratched. A firmware update I just did was relatively fast...no hiccups there as well. This player is loaded with apps and more importantly, at least in my eyes, is it has the four major ones: Netflix, Amazon, Vudu, and Hulu. So what you have is a Blu ray/Streamer Combo machine. The negatives are the remote and a few gripes on the player itself. The remote has all the buttons you need but it is very small. A person who has large hands may have some difficulty pressing these buttons. The player itself is also very small/lightweight and while that is a plus to most people because it takes up such little space on your TV stand/entertainment rack I just question the durability aspect of it. The player doesn't have an area on it that shows the elapsed time of your movie/show so what you have to do is hit the display button on the remote to see that - not a deal breaker in my opinion but just something I thought I'd mention. Other than those few minor quirks it is a very good Blu ray player that is fast, loaded with apps (even can play some Playstation games) and has been great from an operational perspective.

Player looked good and worked well for several days. However, the issue is that the player goes into "child lock mode" and cannot be unlocked. It keeps relocking and will not come out of mode, so the player is now rendered useless. Waste of money and best buy sales clerk said it was a good unit with good reviews. After this happened, I decided to check and found this issue talked about all over the Internet as a know problem with the player. Very disappointed.

Setup was super easy - just plug in and connect the HDMI cable to your TV. That's it! Picture is s clear and the wireless connect was easy to setup too. Highly recommend. Only complaint is the remote is a little small but I can live with that.

When it comes to BluRay players I use no other than Sony. I had the experience once of a Samsung and it did not end well, so I went back and returned and got me a Sony. Ever since, my kids use it and we love it. This new version I got has a lot more features than the one I had, so we use it all the time for Bluray movies and Netflix streaming. I have not yet used the Playstation Now feature, but it is my assumption that it rocks!
