I purchased a refurbished player to save 20$. In store was told the product worked with no problems. False, huge waste of time. Now I have to return it. Dont be cheap people. You end up paying for it any way

Yes it takes a few minutes to set up but big deal..it has to update, like most digital equipment. Easy set up, nothing to it.. don't forget to get the HDMI cable if you don't already have one..cheaper to order the cable online than to get in the store. Worth the few extra dollars to get this one versus the one below it. Love all the features on it. So far so good!!!

This is a very good device if your only purpose of buying this is to watch Blu-ray discs. I have paired this with a Sony DN850 and Fluance Speakers. The sound quality when using this player as source is phenomenal (both while playing BD as well as streaming other applications). There is a huge difference in sound quality when I use this device and compare it with the sound I get when I use my Samsung TV as sound source. Have to give credit to Sony for this. But this BD Player has been a total disaster for me when it comes to streaming applications like Amazon Prime and YouTube. The apps simply close after playing videos for sometime. Initially this used to happen only once or twice a week and I thought I can live with that inconvenience. But now, this happens more frequently (more like every half an hour) and has become really annoying. I am thinking of buying a new BD Player because of this. But at the same time, I spent $80 on this and I cannot throw this away. It is hardly 5 months old. People who want a good BD Player can go ahead and buy this. But if you are looking for a good steaming device, buy something else.

Why get a smart tv when you can just get a smart bluray player? I love this thing; it has many different apps and plays the discs flawlessly!

I see the difference between this or the DVD player, the product is working well , very easy installation, for an amish like me...

This Blu-ray player makes it very easy to setup and use various streaming services including Netflix and YouTube.

First time setup is easy enough. This Sony blu-ray player definitely plays blu-ray dvds fast (little load time) and load time is quite short for watching videos/movies/tv shows from services such as Youtube/Hulu/Netflix/Vudu/etc. This Sony blu-ray player is definitely better/faster than both my Sony blu-ray player from 2009-2010 and my Chromecast.

I love this dvd player. I have 2--1 in my son's room and the other in my room. I love the streaming feature and it connects easily to the wifi.

I purchased this Sony Blu-ray player BDP-S5500 on March 27, 2015 for use with my Samsung 46" 3D LED TV model UN46FH6030FXZA. I tried for 4 days and could not get it to work properly. The problem is that when I turn the unit on, a Blu-ray logo is displayed, then a blue screen flashes and the screen goes black. No error, no message, nothing. The TV then puts up a message saying "No Signal". Then after 8-10 minutes, the Home screen finally pops up. The unit will then function as normal, except there's no audio. But I can play a DVD, perform the set-up and access the apps like Netflix and Hulu. I can also turn the unit off and on. However, if I turn the TV off/on or switch to another port and return then the unit has to be re-initialized. Again, I have to turn it off/on, the screen flashes, and it does nothing for up to 10 minutes. I spent 4 days working with Sony's support. Basically they are a group of young people in the Philippines, who walk you through the same scenarios in the manual. They are hard to understand, talk too fast, and constantly put you on hold. I had to ask them to repeat everything. Imagine how long I was on the phone while they asked me to turn the unit on and off repeatedly and it took 10 minutes to get the Home screen. After going through level 1 and 2 support multiple times and they could not resolve the issue, they would blame it on the Samsung TV. Samsung verified the TV was working properly. Sony then said it must be a bad player. So I went and purchased an identical unit. Same exact problems. Apparently this is a relatively new model and at some time in the future, there may be a software update to download that will address these issues. I returned the item. Although the product did not work properly, I commend the Best Buy sales and customer service staff in Traverse City,MI for the excellent customer service and support I received regarding this issue.

Haven't been able to try it yet. Opened up the box. No HDMI cord! What? was this a restock or does Sony pack it without one? I guess I gotta go to Radio Shack and buy one. How cheap can you get! Everything you need to plug it in should be included in the box!

The Sony 5500 Blue Ray player is a good buy for the price. I would have given 5 stars but for the external construction quality although still better than the competition. The picture quality is very good and good app support and easy set-up.

I love Sony, not all their products but to me, they work just fine. This blu-ray player is really compact and works great, but sometimes it has problem with the internet, but it could be a problem with the router.

Smaller, faster, all around better unit then the replaced unit. The wireless connection is stable. Don't really care for the look of the homepage, but i like the Netflix button on the remote.

This bluray player replaced a 10 year old dvd player, along with my new smart tv. I love the blutooth and wifi features. Very good product, well worth the money.

Awesome Blu-ray, has the best Smart features out there, and would be a no-brainer 5 star rating but for one issue...Sony did not provide a hdmi cable!! There is absolutely no excuse for this...it's a high end build but they scrimp on a cable?! C'mon Sony! Nothing like a quality gift that can't be used! I should have read contents I guess, but I just couldn't have imagined it didn't come with a cable! Comes off looking cheap, from a company with a reputation for quality. I still recommend the player, but be advised you will need a cable...

This is a very selfish product, it does not like playing with others. I would give a 'zero' start if that was an option. You cannot mirror your iPhone to it, you cannot use HBOGO with it. It has some preset apps (Netflix), but you cannot add HBOGO to it.
