Unit seems cheaply made and it operates simply adequate

The player doesn't always turn on or eject DVD. Have to unplug several times. Trouble trying to get DVD to play. Remote is very small and not responsive all the time. Definitely not up to Sony's reputation.

I does a good job playing movies, once it loads them..Blu-ray are very slow to load up. I double checked my wifi in the room just to make sure it wasn't my network. If I had time right now I might exchange for something else. The esthetics could be better.

I decided to wait for true 4k instead of upscaling.

So far I am not entirely thrilled with this device. I have a hard drive for movies on our home network, and the blu ray player seems to think that some mp4's are music and not movies and doesn't play them. I have not played a dvd through the system.

I thought all the "features" and it’s supposed compatibility with my Playstation was an excellent reason to get this Blue-ray Player, boy was I mistaken for trusting Sony this time. I should have returned this when the first issue occurred, but unfortunately I did not do that. I thought it was a momentary glitch when at first it wouldn't turn on. It finally did turn on after unplugging it a few times. Once on the set up was easy but after that problem after problem after problem. I bought this for my mother for Christmas and she didn’t open it for at least a month. After the problem I had with it right out of the box, my mother was the only person using the DVD player, so I also thought that all the problems she was having with the DVD player was due to "user error" but that isn't the case at all. Again and again the player wouldn't turn on without having to unplug and plugging it in several times with every use. It's like the power plug dies every time you turn it off and you have to unplug and plug it back in for the unit to get power. To make matters worse, every few seconds while playing a DVD the picture pops (literally popping) in and out continuously during DVD playback. It doesn’t skip at all but the picture cuts in and out just as if you were turning the device on and off repeatedly. At first I thought was an issue with the DVDs but the same DVDs will play perfectly fine on every other DVD player and game system that I own. Now it’s too far beyond the Best Buy return period so I essentially have a $200.00 Sony brick. Except for gaming, I don’t think that I will ever trust or buy a Sony product ever again.
