    Nice Blu-ray Player - However Limited App's. Would NOT recommend to anyone subscribed to SLING TV. If this Player had an option for SLING TV, then, I would have purchased 2.

    Doesn't play 4K Blu ray discs

    Bought this player for a friend's birthday gift. Hooked it up to his Sony 4K TV and popped in a 4K Blu ray disc. It didn't recognize it and wouldn't play. Tried a second disc. Same result. Friend called Sony help rep. Rep said he would look into the issue. When he came back to the phone he said something like it will play regular Blu Ray discs and they will be enhanced, but not 4K quality. And it would not play the 4K discs I bought for it. Regrettably, it's not what I thought I was buying.

      Hi 4KBluRayPlayer, This player has the capability of 'upscaling' your ordinary Blu-ray discs to 4K quality. This is not a 4K player. Full specifications are posted here: https://docs.sony.com/release//specs/BDPS6500_mksp.pdf.

    I was looking for a 4K player and got this one instead. Make sure you understand this is for upscaling and not for 4K.

Based on the specifications of this Blu-ray player, it doesn't support 4K disc playback, however, it can upscale Blu-ray movies, DVDs, and photos to near-4K quality.     Because the player has so many different playable formats is why I bought the player. I played a lot of home movies and different recordings I had made and it was great. Then I put some bought movies in some it would play and some not. I think Sony needs to look at some of there products and see what is going on...Took player back and got a Samsung, so far it is doing great..

    I would give 0 stars if I could tried 4 different plays returned everyone with in six months glad I got the warranty I didn't give up because I "WAS" a Sony products fan and wanted to believe I was bad luck but finally decided enough was enough and got a Samsung not as may options but what it does have works well and after my all the hours and hours on the phone and trouble shooting I will take that Samsung Blu Ray players over Sony anytime

    Returned it to the store and got store credit. The comparable products are about twice the price of my store credit and I didn't get prorated for the warranty period remaining on the original purchase of about 3 years. I would expect to be able to exchange the unit and have the warranty through the original purchase for the period of coverage on the agreement. Only one that is out on this deal is me.

    Sony 4K UPSCALE player

    I had to give one star, but I would give it ZERO. Don't buy this. The guy at the store was not helpful and said this "would do" for the new 4K TV I purchased. I had to immediately return it after hooking it up because it was not compatible with my Vizio or the 4K movie. If it says "upscale" it just means it might work…. I wanted it to actually work. I went with the Samsung 4K player, the only one in the store that was not an upscale item.

    I was deceived into buying this because the representative at the Best Buy store said this played 4K movies. IT DOESNT!!!

    Fresh out of the box this unit never became a functional product. Constant cannot connect error because of bad connection. Sony Technician took me me through a Q/A and test procedure with the final outcome this is a defective product and this happens sometimes. I would still give this product a good review only because I just happen to get a defective unit. I hope to get a replacement.

    Great low cost Blu ray player upgrade

    I purchased this blu ray player about a week ago to replace my Panasonic 3D blu ray player. I do not have a 4k television and was curious if the picture would be an improvement over my previous blu ray player. I watch my movies on a 120 inch screen with the Epson 2030 projector. I also have a dolby atmos setup and at first thought I would have to return this player since I couldn't find the bitstream option on the audio settings. I ended up finding the setting I needed to change to make sure it supported atmos output. I have watched a 3 movies to demo the picture quality and sound. The Expendables 3, to test the atmos. The atmos mix sounded as good as ever and I also noticed that the picture was noticeably sharper and the color looked more vibrant. I also have watched The Hobbit and Ant-man in 3D. Both looked fantastic in 3D and I didn't notice any cross talk that some reviewers claimed to have seen. I have thought about purchasing the Oppo blu ray player, but I can't justify spending $500 on a blu ray player. Currently, I couldn't be happier with my purchase, and will update my review if I have any issues or thoughts that might be beneficial to someone thinking about purchasing this player.

    This item did not produce DTS HD or Dolby TrueHD sound. I returned it and got a similar Samsung model which did.

    Sony currently does not have ANY true 4K blu-ray players.. What they offer is a regular Blu-ray player that will upscale to 4K. It will NOT play 4K ultra high definition discs! The wording and marketing is extremely deceptive. I do not find this a fault of Best Buy but that of Sony. Rumor has it they will not have true 4K ultra high definition Player until early 2017.

    Good item but browser SUCKS!!! Cannot play videos in browser so forget connecting to services like HBO GO. SONY has no intentions of adding this support for videos and for the price I could have gotten a nice SAMSUNG or other brand that met my needs. As it is I consider this a waste of money.

    This player likes to freeze or not connect when trying to stream. There are times when it won't shut off or won't turn on. When this happens, you have to unplug the power cord for it to work again. I've updated this machine, but it still acts up. I will be replacing this soon and it will not be a Sony (not my first Sony disappointment).

      Hi AshleyP2288, Sorry for the inconvenience. There are issues on electronic devices that can be resolved by just performing the power reset. If the streaming videos are freezing, you may simply power reset your Bluray player and router.
      1. Power off your Blu-ray player and router
      2. Unplug the power cord for 2 minutes
      3. Plug in the power cord
      4. Power on your Blu-ray player and router. sony_US

    Experienced issues within the 1st few months

    I purchase this Blu-Ray player in March 2016 and within a few months it starting having issues. When I try to power it on, I have to unplug it, then plug it back in, then power it on for it to power on. Now it's December 2016 and it will not power on at all. I love Sony products, but this device was either defective or just trash.

    Even though I have a couple of other BluRay Players, I bought this one to accompany a Best Buy 4K Sony TV I bought in August. I paid $99, which was more than the other units because of the 3D & 4K upscaling options. I tried watching Gravity in 3D with the passive glasses. It looks about as good as the active shutter 3D glasses with another TV. The 4K upscaling feature also appealed to me but I can't see a visible difference. Probably my bad eyes, but nice to know I am getting the sharpest picture possible from my DVDs. I would recommend.
