Good for the Money, helps to plung into the 4K port
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.UNIT IS GOOD... READ ON FOR INFO I was having problems with the unit glitching out and what looked like rebooting. Looked like a temp problem. Swapped out unit for an other... Same if not worse... Then I had an, ah ha, moment. I patched the unit into the TV via the one and only 4K HDMI port... Works great now... Not a single glitch... When it was in a non-4K port it would display at 2160 and look really good, but after some time, 20 min or so, it would start to act up. Works good in the 4K port... No problem... I doubt you will find an up scaling DVD player for this price anywhere...

High quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been shopping around for blu-ray players for a while. I wanted something that would upscale DVDs without being insanely expensive. I noticed this product when it went on sale. I'm sure a new model is coming out soon, but I'm not a huge tech person. I just wanted something that would work well and last a long time. First, setup is easy. I purchased a basic HDMI cable from Amazon as I didn't see any reason to spend a lot of money on one. People I know personally who are tech-savvy advised that my eye wouldn't see the difference in picture quality between a cheap HDMI cable and the ones that supposedly improve the picture quality. As long as your device itself works, you can use any HDMI cord. I basically plugged everything in and followed the steps on screen. For someone who isn't tech savvy, this is a plus. I haven't added a lot of apps as I have a smart TV, but if you don't have one, this is a great device to use. I tested Netflix to check the wifi, and it worked well. I only ever have issues with a slow wifi connection, the fault of my ISP not the device. My DVDs looked great. Visually, I never really noticed a difference between HD and 4K (which I know depends upon many factors and I don't know if my TV is capable of the HDR necessary for it or not). Overall, everything functioned well, and the picture looked good to me.

Posted .Hi, Chars64, BDPS6500 is not a 4K player. It can only upscale your favorite Blu-rays, DVDs, and photos to near-4K quality. We appreciate your feedback and this will be forwarded to the proper department. Regards, Vincent

Does not play 4k blu rays
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great player and does just about everything you might want it to do. The images on my new 75" Sony 4 k Triluminous display are crisp and the up-scaling does make a huge difference in picture quality. In fact every t.v. in my home is Sony due to my loyalty to the brand. I would give 5 stars but the player would not play a 4 k Blu ray disc i purchased. Just be forewarned that if you buy this player don't spend the additional money on the 4 k Blu rays as they will not be supported by this player.

Great Blu Ray Machine
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just purchased a Sony Ultra HD with 4K streaming TV. My Geek Squad agent recommended that I buy BDP-S6500 Blu Ray player that streams 4K. I had an old Panasonic dvd player, so I went out and bought it. I couldn't believe the clarity it brought to the dvd. However, just a quick note, be sure to turn off the idle button or it will keep telling you your TV will shut off from being idle for so long. Otherwise, this is a great machine.

Extremely happy with this player!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It might be because I had a Toshiba that was complete junk and went out a year and a half after buying it, but in my opinion this player has much better than average playback quality. The 4K upscaling is totally worth it, especially if your TV is a little older and could benefit from being paired with a high quality player. I haven't tried the 3D option yet but I'm sure it's as good as the regular option.

Great Blu Ray player and steamer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this to replace my Sony S790 for the bedroom setup because I needed my 790 for the living room system which requires analog outputs. I tried the Samsung J5900 and while I loved the ability to transcode a DTS signal to Dolby Digital(which the Sony players will NOT do even though there is a setting in the menu that would appear to contradict that) to feed my Vizio sound bar, the Samsung would drop frames on certain discs and that killed my enthusiasm for it. The Sammy also had a picture that seemed over sharpened. It looked like there was some back door picture processing going on there that couldn't be defeated even when all the settings were set to give the most direct feed from the disc possible with no funny enhancements turned on. The 6500 is a nice improvement in virtually every way over the 790(and the Samsung too)except for its lack of dual HDMI ports and the analog audio section. An unexpected jump in the video quality was noticed almost immediately. Colors seem more vivid and have greater contrast vs. the 790's more muted take on the same discs. Is one wrong and the other more accurate? I don't know, but I prefer the 6500 with my ISF calibrated Panasonic ST-60 plasma. Also this is a much better streamer than the previous player. The 790 never really streamed well for me. Occasionally it says it's not connected to the Internet, but that usually just requires a second attempt. So far I've not had to reboot the player to get a wifi signal or while streaming. No freezes so far. I'm using this strictly on my 60 meg wifi network and it's pretty darn stable. Takes a little while to reach full 1080, but usually not more than 10 seconds or so, and the video quality while streaming is crisper and cleaner looking than my Apple TV4. Along with playing Blu Ray discs, I am also using this player to stream my Netflix feeds now with the ATV relegated for Hulu and HBO duties. I can't comment much the upscaling of DVD's because I dont have very many. Very happy with this player after about 3 months of ownership! Would definitely recommend.

Wow Picture
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hooked up to my Vizio 4K. Picture is clearer than my older Blu-Ray. I haven't had the issues others have had but I've only had it a week. My main use will be disc viewing. Not much of a "smart" user.
