don t buy 4K for this unit
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The 4K up scaling was underwhelming in effect. though shows connected to the internet, will not update software, says not connected. Made the mistake of buying Star Trek 4K version, just won t play it. Disappointed, expected more hooking this up to a 4K TV,

Stopped Reading DIscs
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had the item less than two weeks when it stopped reading discs. Was getting an error message the disc may need to be finalized on brand new movies fresh out of the package. Returned and bought a Samsung.

Upscale? Questionable...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought the unit because of the upscale ability. Thus far, there's no difference compared to any cheaper unit without upscale ability. Nevertheless, I have used Samsung counterpart and Sony is by far a better player (biased maybe?).

Not True 4K UHD Player
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not True 4K UHD Player. Will not play 4K UHD discs. But everything else works fine. I'm a Sony fan, but disappointed in not able play 4K UHD discs. I recently spent more $ for a Samsung player that is a true 4K UHD player.

Did not work in my Samsung J8500
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Product worked fine in my other Samsung 32 inch TV (2012 model) but did not work in my J8500. I get a display "Blu Ray player.." for a second and then I see No signal source on the TV screen.

poor streaming
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The DVD player function on this unit works ok, a little slow to startup and freezes sometimes. The big issue with this unit is the horrible wifi! It looses connection in the middle of a program, then to get everything working again, you have to unplug it from the power supply. While using Netflix and Amazon, it constantly has to refresh, none of out other devices do this, so i know the wifi in the house is good. It also seems to loose HD streaming more often then not. I will be returning tomorrow and finding something different.

Won't recognize 3D Display
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The player would not recognize my 3D home theater system, (I had no problem with my samsung player). The Sony would give a message stating that the Blu-Ray player did not detect a 3D display. I have a Pioneer Elite SC-95 receiver with 3D pass through and an Epson 5030UB Projector with 3D. Because the Sony BDP-S6500 player would not send a 3D signal to the Projector, the projector would activate in 3D and the player would not play 3D. I contacted Sony 1st level of support and Alex was unable to help me and so escalated me up to the next level to John. Through resetting the system to factory (mind you I just bought it 2 days earlier and had latest updates), even after plugging it into the Projector directly the player would not send a signal or recognize my Projector. After the second reset (actually third, one with Alex), reset and unplugged for 2 minutes the player worked, even through the Pioneer receiver to the Projector. However it was short lived, after hanging up with Sony, I went to play a 3D movie and it would not recognize again. I am returning it to get another Samsung BDH6500/ZA, like my original one that worked without a hitch, sorry Sony this should not happen, perhaps it needs better programming. Perhaps its just this player, I am not taking the chance.

Poor quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm very disappointed with Sony. This unit lasted 6 months before going into silent slow motion with DVDs. Best Buy doesn't offer many choices for this type of product. Although it was a good price point, it would have been best if I'd bought a different brand at a higher price point. This was a cheaply made player. Poor form by Sony.

Should have bought a roku
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Blu-ray wise, it works just fine. Smart player wise, it's terrible. It can hardly stream playstation video without bugging out, much less hulu or netflix. I rent blu-rays sporadically, but mostly stream, which was why I liked the idea of this, but it freezes more often then I'd care to count.

Is not a 4K player
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this unit because reviews were high. Also bought Sony 4k tv. Works great until you try to play a 4k DVD. Does not play true 4k disc. Went online after finding this fault and turns out Sony is false stating 4k compatible. Would not recommend this unit.

Very disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Read the reviews before purchasing. Maybe I just got unlucky but first a problem connecting to wifi. Two hours on the phone to Sony and they couldn't problem solve it and suggested I return it to the store. Having hung up with them I tried one more time and was directed to a software upgrade which then allowed me to connect. Started to watch a DVD and half way through sound started breaking up and picture moving in slow motion. Tried a couple of other DVD's and same problem. Do I want to spend another 2 hours on the phone to Sony? No i don't. Best guess would be a dirty connection but seriously this is a brand new unit and I expect a lot better from Sony. It's going back (more time wasting!) and I won't be buying Sony again.

Hunk of JUNK- SO GLITCHY & NEVER WORKS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Here ya' have a DVD player with some extras. Good flipping luck trying to set this up. Only 1 time did I get past "internet access Failed." Then I ran a movie on Amazon, only to be kicked off in less than 10 minutes and could not reaccess the internet. The steps are long (though no as hard as trying to get a password that BestBuy approves of - who the heck do they think they are with this super tough password to enter reviews???). This thing is going back. I would like to toss it directly in the trash but it was $100. I replaced another Sony smart DVD player that was half the price years ago . It should not be hard to set this up (same as the horrible best buy password thing). Don't waste your money. It just doesn't work.

Buyer beware
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this to replace a Bluray playing knowing I would be getting a 4K TV. It is not a 4K UHD player, according to the Sony forums it is "near 4k" and it doesn't play 4K UHD Movie Discs, it only up scales standard Blu rays to "near 4k" according to Forum. It also freezes periodically requiring you to unplug it from the wall to get it to respond, Power does not work. The Remote is tiny, and you hit the HOME or NETFLIX button a lot. Name is misleading. I am replacing it with one of Sony competitors products.

Posted .Hello MitchellNY, thank you for your message. SONY takes into consideration all good or bad feedback to improve the performance and quality of our products. However, for any issue related to the functionality of the unit performing a factory reset is recommended. Steps available in the next link: https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/69542. Horrible Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the second Sony 4k up-scaling bluray player I have bought, that being said I have been absolutely disappointed. Both players froze up multiple times while trying to play amazon video, and also froze up while playing blurays. They would not eject the disc either no matter how many times I rebooted it. One I have already returned, and this current one is also going back. So upset that Sony put out this product. I used to love all their stuff.

Posted .Hello akuehn50, thank you for your message. While the player is turned on, press STOP, HOME, and then TOP MENU button on the remote to lock or unlock the tray. If the issue still persists, press and hold the power button while unplugging the power cord. Then, press and hold again the power button and plug the unit back in withouth realeasing the button. The tray should automatically open. Oscar.
