Press start and it will begin playing the record, but you can also press "up" and then position it where you want it for a particular song.

Very easy to use and I recommend it for an entry level player to anyone wanting to enjoy vinyl. Do not buy this as a open box. I believe people have been stealing certain parts out of them to make their players work. Same issue with 2 purchased prior to getting a new one.
