Great Budget LED
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased for my bedroom. Built in apps are nice. If only it had HBOGO built in then I wouldn't need an Apple TV. TV also has a nice split screen feature to use with other inputs. Overall it's a good budget buy for an LED TV

Poor color
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was very disappointed in color. Does not look anything like the tv in the store. Very faded picture from the side view even after two visits from geek squad. Some better this last visit. Also screen goes black every now and then.. Could not recommend this product.

Wonderful LCD TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I researched the television market like crazy before I bought this unit. I wanted to make sure that whatever I bought would last me for at least 3-5 years (or SHOULD last from 3-5 years), after which point, I would be taking the 4K plunge. This may seem like a pointless wall of text, but I want to provide all of the resources that I found for all you potential buyers out there. It took me a while for me to piece it all together, so I'm putting it here in one location for anyone interested. Below is what I found concerning the 4K vs HD discussion. Below that is my review, if you'd like to skip directly to that! 4K vs HD: The hardest part for me was to figure out if I wanted an HD or UltraHD(4K) unit. As of right now, I've realized that buying a 4K unit would be pointless.I say this due to the drought of content, PLUS, what IS available via Netflix, Youtube and Amazon is all downscaled by the time it hits those sets, which means it's actually NOT a 4K movie or video that you're watching, due to the compression. UHD Blu-Ray will be coming out in the first quarter of next year, but that will be expensive, whereas the regular Blu-Ray format has matured to the point where the movies and players cost almost as much as those of the older DVD format. On top of everything else, new colour standards and HDR for 4K sets will start to hit them soon (possibly next year, but no one is sure when it will happen), which will make the jump in visual fidelity from HD to 4K a wonderful and ridiculous sight to behold! Currently, 4K looks great on its own, but when compared to HD, the difference in picture is not as startlingly obvious as it was when the market began to switch from the old SD sets (remember the CRT TV's that weighed between 70 and 5,000 lbs?) to the flat screen HD sets we all have now. What I'm basically saying is that, with the new colour standards and HDR coming to newer 4K sets (the older ones won't be able to completely support these new standards, if at all) the older 4K sets will look worse and outdated (picture quality-wise) compared to the newer 4K sets, whenever they DO come out. If anyone is curious, I found all of this on CNET, which is an EXCELLENT site! Here are some of the articles that I found: The first article explains why 4K sets are no longer ridiculous, but also explains that they will be getting better in the future, so holding off on buying one is STILL not a bad idea: http://www.cnet.com/news/4k-tvs-arent-stupid-anymore/ This is an older article, which is still VERY informative, even though it seems like a biased piece designed to bash the technology: http://www.cnet.com/news/why-4k-tvs-are-stupid/ This is also a great piece even though it seems just as negative as the previous article: http://www.cnet.com/news/why-ultra-hd-4k-tvs-are-still-stupid/ Below is my review of the TV: As I said before, I did a lot of research and knew what a good LCD set SHOULD look like and what it should have in it: Local Dimming, Direct-Lit LCD panel, decent refresh rate, decent contrast ratio AT THE LEAST and good black levels. LCD sets are notorious for having poor contrast ratios and black levels, in addition to the edge-lit sets sporting a flashlight effect at the bezel (which is where it looks like a flashlight is laying on the floor behind a closed door in a dark hallway). The hardest part was figuring out what defined a good LCD set and based on my research, this was one of the best LCD sets that I could find on the market in my budget range. I found reviews at these 3 sites, which were an immense help: http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/w600b http://reviews.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/sony-lcd-tv/sony-kdl-48w600b.html http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/electronics-computers/audio-video/tvs/lcd-led-oled-tvs-ratings/models/overview/sony-bravia-kdl-48w600b-99052218.htm They were all pretty positive and I didn't care if the set was a SmartTV or not since I have limited internet at my house. After much testing, I can say that this TV really IS a great set to buy. I won't get technical in my review since the 3 links that I posted already do such a great job of reviewing it, but I’ll describe my impressions as an actual consumer. Assembling the unit is VERY easy and took roughly 5 minutes, which includes getting it out of the box. The black levels are great. On a black picture, It looks almost as dark as a plasma, which is amazing! I notice no tearing of the images during video games or movies (I don't get cable or satellite in the room where I set it up) and the contrast is VERY nice head-on and doesn't wash out too much at a decent angle. The pictures look GREAT on this TV right out of the box! I haven't even messed with a single setting, actually and I'm already in love with it. I haven't played with the Smart features since I can't take advantage of them, so I can't speak on behalf of their performance and functionality. The set isn't heavy at all! I can easily pick it up and move it wherever I need to. One of two annoyances is that the plastic will groan a bit when I pick up the unit, which takes away from the experience slightly. The other annoyance is that, when you plug a flash drive into the unit, it pulls all of your videos onto the screen for you to select from, rather than showing the disparate folders they are kept in, so it can get a bit messy to look at. The sound is very good considering it comes from built-in speakers and the plethora of ports are perfect for me. I’ve already bought a Blu-Ray player to complement my Xbox 360, so I still have 2 HDMI ports left. Bottom line: The unit is great, picture is great (no backlight issues), build looks good but it feels a tad cheap due to all of the plastic and sound is great. I would recommend this unit to anyone in the market for an HD set. Plus, it looks bigger in my room than it did in the store, which definitely isn’t a bad thing!

Maybe it's supposed to be that way?
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I bought this tv on clearance at bestbuy.com. I had it shipped to my home. I opened the tv, plugged it in and voila! Broken screen. Not on the outside, but under the screen itself. I'm sure it was lovely but I had to return it. I exchanged it for a different model because this one was no longer available and ended up with a tv that didn't have the features I wanted, and at a price more expensive than the one I originally intended to buy. Sad
