It is plugged into a wall outlet and I will not be using batteries. Using a very low volume and choosing the "sleep" mode I drift off. The sleep mode turns the unit off. I recorded several disc`s of music onto a USB which this Sony cd boombox excepts. I do not know how well this unit works with batteries.

One in our bathroom (a small room) and one in our large sewing shop area (15' x 25'). We listen to NPR for news and to music CDs while working in our shop. This boombox delivers and projects very well even in our shop. The "Megabass " really balances the music sound. Haven't tried the USB play/record feature yet but we are confident that it will be satisfactory. We have had many Sony devices over the years and have never been disappointed.
