The sound was solid although a bit muddy. If you're looking to Jazz up a soundbar it will work well, but for high-end listening you do get what you pay for. Bought it on sale for $100 off

It will get the job done for most people but it's nothing to brag about. Just another example of typical modern Sony product. Not talking about Playstation brand, that is the only thing keeping them in business because as far as I'm concerned they still think it's the 1990's. Sony you have too much cheaper and better competition. I ended up returning this sub.

Posted .Hi Djufu1, Thank you for the feedback on your experience with the SACS9 Active Subwoofer. And we regret to hear that the unit had to be returned. To ensure an optimal bass response, please refer to the following.
-Set the CUT OFF FREQ as high as
possible when playing back the Dolby
digital.
-Turn LEVEL clockwise to turn the
volume up.
-ˎIf the subwoofer is installed in the center of
a room, the bass could be extremely
weakened. This is due to the influence of
the standing wave of the room. If this
happened, move the subwoofer away from
the center of a room or eliminate the cause
of the standing wave, by installing a
bookshelf on the wall, etc.
