Bought this a few years ago and still going strong. Great sub for the money. You really have to tune the crossover and output dials (great feature!) on back of unit to get best sound for your room. If you dont then probably not going to like the random settings out of box. Also dont bother with auto standby setting. It doesnt work at low to medium volumes. I also attached some cheap rubber feet that raise 1/2” off floor for much tighter bass. Eliminates resonance…

Just bought the Sony Powered Subwoofer today, hooked up and configured. I have a home theater Onkyo receiver and Bose Acoustimass Speakers and before the sound was gutless unless I cranked it. After I hooked up the line preamp signal from the receiver and plugged it in (about 5 minutes), I turned everything on and tried out a fave vinyl album, Amy Winehouse. Wow, just blew our socks off. Really filled out the sound with wonderful subharmonics, once I got it dialed in it was clear and full. I don't have to turn up loud to get a fantastic full range signal. I was never pleased with my vinyl and thought I had issues elsewhere. This solved every sonic issue. Perfect for small to medium sized rooms. Very pleased, highly recommended for the price $159.00, not sure you can beat the performance at this price point.

Sony did a great job with this subwoofer. It sounds great, has all the needed controls on the back, and has a deep enough extension for my tastes. I was skeptical that 115 watts would be enough but it really is for my needs. It can get a little "thumpy" in the upper range but I tune that out with the help of the crossover adjustment on the rear as my mains handle midbass much better. For the price I think this is a great deal. Oh, and it even had an 8ft subwoofer cable in the box which was also thoughtful but about 6 inches too short for my setup.

So the Sony SA-W2500 subwoofer is powerful than the Sony SA-CS9? The only different is the SA-W2500 is 100 watt and the SA-CS9 is 70 watt? Would the SA-W2500 would able to handle and compatible with the Sony A/V 5.2 reciever?

this product is so powerful it blew the roof off my house and knocked down a few walls. seriously, it rattles my whole house when the Onkyo system it's hooked to is turned to 45 on the volume. I'd marry this subwoofer if it wouldn't get me funny looks.

I knew Sony speakers are far superior for the price. This Sub didn't disappoint me either. I had used old Jbl ported subwoofer ($350)- very boomy- sound like stone age sub. and used polk sub woofer($300) - better but it is beat strong for music; burden on ear. and sound become smaller under 40hz. But This $99 subwoofer is almost perfect! sound so natural and still loud at30-40hz. It is close to $600 B&W Sub I have in another room. I installed two Sony sub. I blocked the port of the back of the sub. for more tight sound (for music) and it makes sound smaller. So I putted another one rather than volume up preventing sound distortion. I'm so pleased with the sound.

Just recently purchased the whole core series set up 2 subs,book shelf, center and floor standing speakers plus new Sony receiver . And have to say I'm blown away with the quality of these speakers. I was a little nervous about how far I could push the speakers for the fact I listen to my music loud. I mainly listen to metal music. I haven't seen any comments for these speakers for listening to metal music so I took a chance. The clarity the thump of double bass drums the crunch of the guitars everything is so evenly distributed. The system has been able to handle the push of how I like to listen to my music. Couldn't be happier with the Sony core series setup. Thank you for making such a great system.

I bought this subwoofer as a replacement for an older 5.1 home theater. What a very pleasant surprise! This subwoofer performs better than the subwoofer it replaced at half the cost. The bass is tight and not overly boomy. It even enhances regular television broadcast.

Purchased this sub to replace a 2004 onkyo sub. What an improvement. Much better integration with sony core tower speakers and sony 740 receiver. Bass is well blended when listening to the tv.

Good sub and inexpensive when on sale. There are a lot of comparable subs in this price range. Sound is decent but cant expect a lot from an inexpensive sub.

I use a desktop amp with a poor subwoofer output and no crossover settings. With this sub you can run your speaker outs into the subwoofer and then out to your speakers. The sub has its own crossover adjustment and it sound much better (and louder) than the sub out on my little amp. This allows a much better control. For the sound quality, this is where it gets a 4/5 star. It sounds great, but if you have the money to drop on a better sub and you are running a home theater A/V receiver, I would recommend getting something a little more expensive but for my needs it does exactly what I want and it takes some of the strain off of my baby Martin Logan speakers with that built in crossover. All in all I would consider this a great addition to any system for the price. Especially if you can get one when its on sale!

Excellent product for the price. Great sound with my existing surround sound setup. This unit will satisfy the needs of 99% of the average home sound systems. Received it the next day. And no shipping charge. First time on line shopping with Best Buy. I will use them again for my electronic needs. Best Buy easier to work with than Amazon.

This subwoofer is very good when you rate it for the value you are getting. You have to be honest with yourself when buying a subwoofer under $200 that you cannot compare it to other subs that are obviously going to perform a little better. That being said this sub sounds great and fills my medium sized TV room perfectly. I DEFINITELY recommend buying a different sub cable, as they do include one, but is honestly for all intensive purposes worthless. Very thin and poor quality on the included cable.

This is a great subwoofer to add to the Sony SS-CS5 bookshelf speakers. They do take a lot of fiddling with crossover frequency, subwoofer volume, and especially room placement. When you get everything right the sound is extraordinary.

Once setup is completed it does amazing job. I found that using only about 3/4 settings was plenty to get great sound without being overpowering.

My older Sony receiver was failing in my living-room. Purchased the STRDH-770 receiver and connected the old speakers, unfortunately my sub-woofer was not compatible. I was eyeing this sub and finally decided to get it. Took it home and set it up with the 770. After some speaker calibration all I can say is WOW! The bass this thing puts out is awesome! Great sub and receiver! Movies and music sound great!

Connected with my Digital A/V Device Sony STR DN 1030 and combined with a subwoofer Klipsch SB-8 in my room as result is a success power increased loud bass and a tremor vibration sound experience in my room. Good drive suspension motion reduces the "stress" when very low frequencies with 6 ohms (like in a car subs) attempts to blow if the amplifier is boosted and the acoustic is great. My only little disagreement in this model has an auto power off circuit but should be too an auto power on if is activated with incoming energy current pulse between of the speaker output.

It works great. A little heavy but is not big and bulky! The bass can be turned down or up depending on your taste.
