That older unit had never given satisfactory service. This new Sony sub-woofer works well. I very much like the fact that it has an automatic setting so it doesn't have to be manually powered on and off. It also has a simply one cord plug in to my receiver. This unit definitely allows base to come through and enhances movies, especially action movies with lots of loud noises and soundtracks.

I use it a large bedroom setting, the sub volume knob is turned 50%...it rocks the desk lol. I've listened to many subs, good ones and bad. The best part about this sub's bass? The clarity..The bass is clean and heavy at the same time. That's a perfect sub in my opinion, and I got it for 100 US. Also? Sony just don't miss.

So I purchased this Sony subwoofer when it was on sale, to try it out. It turned out to be true - and brought out things I had not heard before in the music! I finally saved up for this Sony, added it to my very old receiver and I swear, it's very much like giving adrenaline to an old system. It sounds great, Jurassic Park steps feel like they're just outside the house. I'd recommend this to anyone.

I am not the kind that can tell the difference between a $100 or $500 speaker, so this sub was perfect. Black Friday deal made this even more appealing. BB has really great staff for the most part, and my rep gave me a piece of advise that I followed. He said to set the volume to 50% and the cut off frequency to the highest value (200 Hz). Works great!

It had been in the Open Box section because someone literally purchased it and opened the box but never removed the product from the box so I was able to scoop this at a cool $75. If you want to know power, this is the best BANG I’ve gotten for the BUCK and even at $150 its still a great buy, Sony never disappoints!

Has an automatic off function that is supposed to turn the woofer off if it's not being used, but instead it turns off while in use. Wether there's a song or movie pkaying.

Thank you for your time writing this review. We're glad to hear you like the great sound quality and easy connectivity of your SACS9 subwoofer. However, we're sorry if you are having some issues with the unit. Please check the following steps to troubleshoot a subwoofer that turns off by itself:
The subwoofer may have an energy-saving feature that powers the amplifier off if there is not a signal after a specified amount of time. If this is the case, set the Power Save switch to the OFF position to prevent the subwoofer from turning off by itself.
Check the cables or speaker wires for proper connection between the subwoofer and the main unit.
Ensure it is connected to a working AC outlet. To reduce the possibility of an electrical short, do not connect the subwoofer to an extension cord or power strip.
Check the speaker size setting in the Set-Up menu of the main unit. If the speaker size setting is incorrect, the subwoofer may not be receiving any signal

The unit can sense when your receiver is on by the input line and thus turns itself on provided its in the standby mode. Therefore no need for a separate subwoofer remote like some units have. Looks good and doesn't take up too much space. Highly recommend this subwoofer.

I am stunned by the sound resolution of this relatively small subwoofer. Years ago, I owned a larger other name brand subwoofer, but this one is far better. This one provides movie theater sound. An Excellent Choice for Audiophiles

It finally crapped out on me and I had to replace it. I originally was going to get a Polk sub, but after hearing the Sony on the store demo, my wife and I were quite impressed and we decided to get this one. We definitely made the right choice! One tip that I have is to turn off the power saving mode. It clicks on when the bass kicks in, and it's kind of awkward.

It comes with a cheap rca universal cord, so you don't need to buy one. The clerk at Best Buy told me you had to have one, but she was wrong. Lucky they take returns. I plugged it in to the stereo and power supply, adjusted the volume and blamo - works perfectly. The sound is really deep and strong, so you may have to play with the volume. I initially had it up too high and had to turn it down. It is perfect. Awesome bass.

Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use this subwoofer on a 2 channel stereo with a pair of vintage Dalquist speakers which are amazing with a very open 3-D sound but are a bit weak on bass for current standards. Besides the typical home theater connections this sub also can be hooked up to regular speaker terminals so I run the Dalquists on bank A and the sub on Bank B. Works perfectly that way. The sub has its own volume and crossover adjustments, so you can set it the way you like it and dial it a down a bit for music. If you use the sub on low volumes it won't turn on until you turn up the sound, then you can bring it down to the volume you want and the sub stays on. Not a problem but the first time this occurred I thought there may be something wrong, so mentioning this in case someone thinks it stopped working!
