Supprised how clear they are when truned up loud.

The ones I had in my room as a kid are huge compared. Well I have to say wow, very nice. I wanted to fill the room with sound and these speakers do that 10fold.

Great little bookshelf speakers.

May be the best ever "Budget Speaker" made!

After reading so many positivies reviews, I had to see what the fuss was about. I'm impressed that the tweeters do not stand out, infact they are clean and detailed without being bright. I'm also impressed that the bass is fairly clean and has a good deal of dynamic that I didn't expect out of a 5.25" driver. Somehow it throws a large soundstage behind the speakers that I also didn't expect. The cabinet movement and the port wind in the back has to be making some noise but at this price point, I can't really find too much at fault. Putting those few things aside as it cost about as much as speaker cable and RCA jacks, if you looking at $200 and below, it's the best speaker made for the money.

Better at this price seems very unlikely.

Unbeatable home theater value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought a pair of these to replace my L & R front speakers for my 5.2 home theater. They replaced a pair of Martin Logans and are better in every way. They sound so good that I bought another pair and I use one of those as my center (laid down on its side). A tremendous value for a home theater application provided you have a decent sub. I very rarely listen to music on this system, when I have it has never occurred to me that they are either great or not great for that. In general speakers for music should be a bit "warmer" but when those kinds of speakers are used for home theater things just sound muddy. If you are looking for home theater speakers that still sound decent for music then I HIGHLY recommend these Sony Cores.

Sony SSCS5 - A hidden gem
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.After discovering that my pair of old Paradigm Titan's had blown/torn speakers and coil damage I began to research a pair of replacements for these units. Long story short, I found these Sony speakers for sale at a local Best Buy on sale price of $75/pair. I was somewhat skeptical because of the price point and the name of the brand but upon doing research, they had a lot of positive reviews across multiple vendors. Once I got these units home, I hooked them up to an already existing 7.2 system running a Denon a/v receiver, and ELAC for the other speakers/subwoofers and was immediately surprised, in a good way, regarding the Sony's I had just bought. To my ears, these speakers sound somewhat "bright". I found that the highs sound crisp but not overly aggressive, the mids are adequate, and the low's provide enough bass to balance things out. Comparing these to my already existing ELAC B5.2s, the Sony's sound less "balanced" to my ears, but the differences aren't significant enough to warrant any negative comments. In closing, for the price I paid, these speakers are a hidden gem among the many more "expensive" models that are present in the audio market. Overall, I'm very pleased with their performance and would recommend them to anyone looking at filling a void in their existing set up, or is looking for a "budget priced" entry into the world of audio.
