The last time I bought speakers it did everything in one box. Now speakers seem to have a seperate functions. When I realized these speakers were not going to be bass heavy that changed my perspective. The way of today is my subwoofer is the bass machine. I truly have a 5.1 now. You will like these speakers,I do.

I am one of those who believes tower speakers are best for front side channels in a home theater and for music. These are very small for a "Tower" speaker. Very Small... The fact they are so so "Short" defeats the purpose of a tower. Towers should produce decent bass and mids with good highs. This is ported to the front so you could shove them against a wall to get some bass I guess. (Oddly enough the Bookshelf versions of these speakers sound much better and you can move them in and adjust them better). The low price speaker market has gotten very small. These being $300 for the pair just skims the "Low Price" barrier in my opinion. They have a very flat sound. The mid range is thin, not there. The bass is off balance, anemic. In the end these speakers "shout" at you once you get them up to a level that you hear the bass. As far as hearing separation of any kind in your music you won't. it's a mud puddle . MAYBE if you invest in a proper sub and home theater receiver that can take all the bass and boom and just have these for mids and highs it could work. But for this price is that worth it? The Sony Core Bookshelf speakers are 1/2 price and sound much better with a sub and you will come out to around the same price you would paid for just these "Tower" speakers that are unbalanced and thin.
