I have a RX100 (original version) but decided to get the new RX100M3. The picture and video quality is much better than the original RX100. The new lens is amazing and the prime reason for the quality. In addition to the picture quality I like the titled screen and the new flash configuration. Unlike the previous version of RX100 you can pop-up the flash using a dedicated button when you need the flash. Since BestBuy didn't have the camera in store and didn't want to order online and wait for it I bought it from a Sony store. I really like the camera.

Best Point and Shoot Camera

I had this camera for while now, and I have started using it more than my full sony alpa a65 DSLR. It is very compact, and light. It shoots great in low light, and it is packed with extra features like sweep panorama, tilting screen, and EVF. It can shoot at 10fps, and shoot in 1080p with no problems. It is a very capable camera to bring with you everywhere.

I had a Rx100 & RX100 II. So my review will be based on it.
#Compare to RX100 and RX100 II. The Lens on this camera is amazing. Sharpness is equal to some of the best DSLR general purpose lens'es. A comparable interchangable lens will cost around same as the camera.
#High ISO image quality, Dynamic Range rivals some old DSLR's.
#Video mode is the best available for a pocket camera. Only Panasonic m4/3rds rivals it. others cannot come even close.
#Viewfinder is good a addition. Though it is kind of small. eventually you will get used to it.
#for me this is the only camera i need for 90% of my shooting needs.
# I have DSLR for potraits and events.

The best point & shoot...period!

After owining 9 point and shoots since 2001, from Pana, Sony, and Nikon, this is indisputably the finest. I shopped long and hard among all the major brands. While $800 seems high for a mirrorless SLR, I am now convinced it's a good investment. I don't fully understand how the mirrorless feature works, but believe me---this camera produces fotos that are superior to those from the under $1000 mirror SLR's. My only small complaint is that deleting photos is a one foto at a time ordeal. There should be a multiple foto view display with the ability to click multiples to create a batch delete. This process is especially tortuous for numerous burst mode duplicate fotos. Maybe I'm doing something wrong because it's hard to believe that Sony could be this stupid. One more important point: I purchased this at a Best Buy store where it was a customer return. Everything was included, in perfect condition. The salesman said it was out for just one day and showed no signs of trouble. Price only $400--- Half Off!

I have had a large number of digital and film cameras. I really liked the first RX100. I liked the RX100m2 even more (I still use it). The third generation RX100m3 is even better!. The RX100m3 is still pocketable for me. The battery life is good. The video supports 4K resolution. The fast lens is great for low light levels. I bought it through the Best Buy store in Chicago on Michigan Ave. Great store!

This is magic in a small package. Sony has taken a DSLCamera and shrunk it down into a point and shoot on steroids. Great Video Great Stills don't look any more just stop right here and buy. You will be glad you did.

Great point and shoot camera with hefty price tag

This is a great point and shoot camera. Clicks excellent photos even in low light, Auto mode quickly detects and selects the right setting/mode for the photo. Even an amateur can click great pictures using this camera. It has good battery life and best of all its pocketable. The swivel screen and view finder is very handy as well.
Although size is one of its biggest strength, it does result in some limitations like very limited Zoom range. Also, it would have been better if it had touchscreen (comparable camera from Canon has touchscreen at a much lower price range). Also, it is very pricey for a point and shoot. Many entry level DSLR are available at a lesser price.

No Up To My Expectations !

The reviews on this camera are excellent. The actual use of this camera did not live up to the hype....for me. One big complaint I have is when trying to do a selfie and the screen is in position so you can see yourself..you have to hit the shutter and then a countdown ...3 -2-1 and the shutter fires. I don't want this. I want to hit the shutter to take the photo. When I take a selfie with my young grandson I need to be in control. Maybe you can change this. I don't know.
Another downside is the blown out highlights. For a camera in this price category and caliber that is not acceptable to me. The overall image was not as sharp as I anticipated. The exposure was not what it should been too. On playback on my computer, as you started to zoom in the image became overly pixelated. The camera had many manual controls but I feel I should get acceptable results without having to tweak every shot. Then I used my friends Canon g 7x Mark 2 and the images were spectacular on the Canon. The exposure, color, saturation, highlights, etc on the Sony was lacking compared to the Canon. Yes, you have to decide what features are important to you as each camera offers something the other doesn't.
I wanted a EVF that the Sony has, I like the touch screen of the Canon.
The Canon also has a bigger zoom ratio. The bottom line for me is IMAGE QUALITY. I think the Canon is much superior to the Sony.
I guess with somethings maybe you will sacrifice quality for other features, such as portability, EVF etc. I think about the special mementos in my life, my daughters' upcoming wedding, the birth of a grandchild, first steps, birthdays, once in a lifetime vacations , etc I will choose the best image quality anytime. My choice is Canon.
