    Abused Camera

I am a building Inspector and I have abused this camera for three years. The camera operates as well today as the day I bought i at Best Buy, open box. Only problem is the white letters have worn off. It works well for a non-professional photographer, makes me look good. Take an average of 300 to 400 photos per week.

    Good Deal...for the Price

I just purchased this camera because of the price. But I was not totally happy with it once I started to use it. The digital zoom is over stated. It is effectively only 2X the optical zoom. The auto-focus is slow and the ability to change aperture and shutter speed is somewhat cumbersome. My other cameras are Canon and Nikon, so maybe I'm just not used to the way Sony presents its menu options. It also was not very good at taking pictures in low light. This camera is not a total loss. It comes with a glass lens - something almost never heard of at this price point. The ISO range is great and the exposure compensation is really good. At this price point, this is a very good camera, but I would prefer other brands for a few more dollars.

    Very Disappointing

I have owned Sony Sure-Shot cameras before and loved them so when I was looking for a new one, slightly larger and easier to use, this seemed like the ticket. On the plus side, this camera is relatively easy to use and takes great photos. But the cons far outweigh the negatives in this case. First and foremost, the battery life is awful. I have had this camera 2 months and gone through 3 sets of 4 batteries--and taken about 400 photos during that period. Using the zoom lens doesn't help here but this camera is a battery drainer. I have now had to purchase rechargeable batteries and the performance of this unit is even worse. And all of this connects with the second con about this camera which is that it weighs too much to lug around. Bottom line: if you're looking for a camera to take on vacations in particular, I would not recommend this one because of these two factors alone.

You get what you pay for.

Bought this camera before heading on vacation to Costa Rica. Miss MANY great shots due to trying to focus, and 1/2 the time it NEVER did focus. Whether it was close or far, the camera took forever to focus. And again, many times it never did focus, so, I missed some really great shots of animal life (poison dart frogs, sloths, and others). There was no Micro option, which may have made some of the closer pics better/more focused. The shutter speed was also very slow, so, it made me miss several pictures due to this as well. As it states it the title, "You get what you pay for." The price seemed right, but it is not worth it. Also, I thought in the description it stated, "Battery included." Yes, there were FOUR batteries, not rechargeable. Another major flaw, as you have to bring MANY extra batteries, which loads you down. Also, night pictures were very bad. I tried using the "Scene" Night feature with and without flash, tried "SImple" feature with and without feature. None of them turned out well.

Addendum to my previous post earlier in October.

In reviewing my pictures post vacation, it occurs to me that in as much as the pictures weren't what I was "shooting for" the picture quality in most is excellent. I would have been happier with an upgrade but this is all I could do at the moment. My recommendation is if this is all you can afford, this is a great camera! If you can wait it out for an up grade you will be happier. (But my concerns I stated earlier still stand.)

    Not As Expected

Although this camera product info indicates a 35x zoom capability, it does not provide acceptable zoom even when placed on a setting for scenery. The camera must be on when viewing previously taken photos on the flash card...that means you must take the lens cover off even if you don't intend on taking a photo. The camera takes a while to come on (even with new batteries) and therefore if you are intending to use it on a trip, you must be prepared to wait to take your photo. Not good for live shots in that respect if photographing animals or wild life. The camera is heavy and bulky, not easily carried, and the neck strap should be wider for such a weight.

I'm not much of a review writer but I figured I'd do my good deed and save others time & aggravation. The funny thing is the camera "LOOKS" great.....The view finder is fuzzy and not crisp at all, the options even for a novice are slim to none, the picture quality and Auto focus are dreadful. The flash makes little to no impact whatsover......DO THE MATH!

Hi Maxq34, we're saddened to hear that the camera failed to meet your expectations. The viewfinder can be adjusted by tuning the diopter dial located at the side of the EVF. As for the options for shooting and focusing, we suggest visiting our online support site, esupport.sony.com, for troubleshooting guides and tips. Thanks_Mitch Sonystyle

Purchased this camera just to take passport photos at our center. After taking several photos with different settings we're thinking about returning the camera. The quality of the photos we took were disappointing -- murky and not sharp (with tripod) to say the least. Even our smart phones produce better photos than this camera, in the very same light condition. Been a Sony fan for who knows how long but obviously not this time!!!

Broken in the first few minutes.

I literally took less than 20 pictures with this camera in my own home just to see how it works. It froze completely. I cannot even get the lens to get back in the camera. Its frozen. I even removed the batteries and put them back in to see if that would help but it didn't. Not happy that I have to drive back to the store and deal with waiting around for someone to free up to help me buy "another" camera. I will not be taking my chance on this one again. I would absolutely not recommend this to a friend. I know this wasn't expensive compared to the other similar brands but this is unexpected and very disappointing.

This might be a really nice camera but I never got to find out. We took a dozen pictures and then plugged it into our Windows 7 PC to download pics and it promptly died. Gotta say that the sales associate (Dean) was really good but we got a lemon. Sony support was helpful but could not correct the problem over the phone and suggested an exchange. I decided to just return it and keep using our 10 year old really slow, really cheap old camera.
