Very Good 4K Camera With Few Drawbacks
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok first of I really like this camcorder, I have a few gripes but overall I'm very happy, ill just get to the details rather than keep on talking for now. What's great: Image stabilization - Not the digital, the magnetic floating lens. Works absolutely awesome, this feature is unlike anything ive seen before. I can ride down the road on a bumpy road and the camera doesn't flinch, it works great without sacrificing image quality. This is one of its best features. Very good shooting in well lit areas - The color and clarity in 4k 100Mbps on a sunny day or an evening when the sun is still above this horizon is stunning. Still Images - they shoot with very good quality when not shooting stills at the same time as video. beats any smartphone. Battery - first camcorder whos included battery could last long enough to be useful. there is no need for the typical user to purchase another spare or larger one. Feel - this camera fits in your hand well, its larger than my old SD camcorder but they managed to make it fit in my large hand well, it has an adjustable strap so as long as your thumb can reach record and your index finger reach the zoom wheel at the same time you will like the way it feels, its a little heavy but that's the price you pay for long battery life, a well worthwhile trade off. 60p mode in 1080p and the ability to speed it up to 120p - (you'll need good light) but this will give you absolute jitter free video but only at 1080p. Semi low light performance - this will record great video, especially in 1080p 30fps when in parking lots, city streets and other areas lit up with city lights. Viewfinder - I like being able to use the camera without the side open in very bright light this is great. A port up top (for a flash) but also very useful for video lights you can get for low light films. the cover is slightly finicky on mine. I had to adjust the tabs on it to get it to close and snap tight. Zoom - while only 10x, it keeps the quality intact very well and the stabilization without digital correction still keeps the video smooth Whats ok: Night vision - kind of a blair witch gimmick, but it does work, even for far away targets the IR lamp cannot reach will still be amplified but of course mostly a green recording. Uses UHS-I U3 cards which are getting cheap, however this causes some limitations, also probably due to a small sensor. limitations include no 60p for 4k recording, some shooting modes are turned off for different recording formats. Price - it was affordable, under 1k even after purchasing memory card (a must because their is no internal memory) Play Memories - this software is nice but the ability for windows 10 to do an import without it as in the case of my Canon cameras would be even better, there is a bug in the app, it sometimes says it cannot import some of the files even though it got them all and removed them from the camcorder What I don't like: They are still using the usb pull out cord, this is useless, its to short to get to most usb ports without standing the camera up on the battery, its also a weak point, a part that could short, it needs a USB port Import speed kind of slow, USB 3.0 has been around for awhile and the SD card could hold up to it, Needs USB 3.0 Support. The touchscreen - this is horrible, it is laggy, doesn't always know where you hit it if you have big fingers, good quality screens have been around for a long time, this is essentially the same touchscreen as in my old SD camera just with higher pixel count. Wifi - this is by far the worst feature, its basically useless, when you can get it connected to your phone about all its good for is seeing what you are recording. NOTICE TO ANYONE ABOUT THIS FEATURE - it will not wirelessly send your videos like you may think, the only way this appears to work is if you dual record and send the lower quality file, full resolution recordings will not even show up in the list of items to transfer. This should support AC but it only works with N wireless, it should be able to connect to your network and be discoverable as a network device you can easily pull files from, it is not. if you are purchasing this camera based on wifi abilities, turn away. The mobile app - mobile apps come in all kinds of quality varieties, some absolutely excellent like ones made by Samsung or google for a large user base, this one falls low on the spectrum, its interface is not well designed, and the wifi stuff is nonsense to begin with see above. when you get to control with phone, it will give you a remote viewfinder and a zoom option. but it wasn't worth the hassle so I removed the app from my phone as it screws with your wifi, for this to work it really needs Bluetooth, NFC is not very good either. Very low light recordings - these are poor, lots of noise, you can lower resolution and fps and turn on low lux feature but this only goes so far. if you manually slow the shutter speed down you can get more light in but any movement will look like your are on drugs. Overall view of the camera: It may seem like I have a lot of complaints listed, these are why I dropped a star, some could be improved and some I could have just done without to save cost (wifi and nfc could have been left of altogether) but this are mainly just issues that come with getting a very nice camera a good price point. If you want stunning video, I mean its gorgeous, captures color very well, focuses very quickly when it can see something well and has the best stabilization I've ever seen (just looking at that eyeball lens move around as you shake is awesome) this camera is defiantly for you, you wont regret it one bit, and this was the reason I purchased it, so 4 stars for me, it gets the job done and it does it well! I my opinion you buy a camcorder to shoot great video and you do the processing, editing, and uploading online after the file is transferred to a computer. if you are looking at this camera for flashy features etc., don't waste your money and stick with your cell phone. This is not the purpose or reason to buy a video camera Good overall job on this camera Sony!

little disappointed
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i still haven't been blown away with the picture quality. maybe i need to read the manual more but just using out of the box settings the images are better than my old HD (non-4k) camcorder but not the eye popping stuff. it is a heavy beast.
