Mini party
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This speaker can pump out some serious sound, but it needs slight tuning not to sound to muffled, Raise the tremble on Spotify and boom your set to go

Good Sounding Party Speaker With Annoying Flaws
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony High Power Home Audio System GTK-XB60 has good sound but seems plagued by a few undesirable problems. I should start by being clear up-front that this is really more of a party speaker system - designed to have strong thumping bass and capable of some serious volume without too much distortion. The term “Home Audio System” might be a little misleading since it isn’t really like a home audio bluetooth speaker that you would keep in your living room. But as a party speaker, I think it does pretty well. But even though the sound is fine, there some strange design “features” (flaws) that are aggravating: (1) The system comes with colorful flashing party lights inside the speaker and even though there are several lighting modes you can choose from, none of the modes is music dependent (the lights don’t respond to the music in any mode). (2) The speaker lights are turned ON by default so you have to deactivate them every time you use the speaker (rather than simply just turning them on whenever you want them). And every time the speaker is plugged in to charge, the lights begin to flash as well. Sony must have realized that might be a problem because they included a single page addendum with the documentation that only shows how to deactivate the lights. (3) Unless I am missing something, you can only turn the system on but it has to turn itself off after a time-out with no signal. Depressing the power button for several seconds only seems to restart the box but won’t turn it off. (4) This is more of a personal dislike, but much of the instruction manual is dedicated to elaborate schemes to add additional speakers (either adding just a second speaker to give true left/right separation or creating a chain). I guess I’m not clear about why you would combine multiple weaker speaker systems rather than start with a stronger system. Why is that such a strong selling point? (5) Sony has an app called “Fiestable” that works with the system to give the user some DJ-inspired special sounds and effects. I had no problem getting the app to work but the sound effects were pretty lousy and I can’t imagine them being anything other than annoying at a party. I really think Sony could have done a much better job with the overall design here. But, again, as a party speaker, the sound is pretty solid.

Powerful Portable Bluetooth Speaker & Bass Punch
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having used portable Bluetooth speakers in the past, the XB60 pushes the envelope as far as powerful music playback, wireless capability, app support, and features. This is certainly not your typical Bluetooth speaker; a very good thing. Music playback was easy to accomplish in large part to the XB60’s numerous wireless features: NFC, LDAC, etc. In fact you can connect multiple devices via Bluetooth simultaneously in order to allow different people to seemlessly use the XB60. Connecting to the XB60 was seamless with no connection losses occurring. Music playback sounded very good with the XB60 reproducing a surprisingly balanced presentation. Given its size, the XB60 packs two tweeters and two woofers into its chassis which provided powerful music reproduction. The “Extra Bass” button certainly provided that extra bass punch. App support was commendable and very useful. Both Sony Music Center and Fiestable allowed for manual adjustments to sound and visual characteristics. The Sony Music Center allowed for EQ and other sound related adjustments while Fiestable allowed for party flash, customer speaker colors, and other visual adjustments. Both apps were highly effective with the Fiestable being addictively fun to play with. While I did not intentionally test the battery life to failure, I used my XB60 for over 8 hours, at moderate volume with occasional use of the lighting features, and experienced no issues with battery life. Ultimately battery life will depend on the playback volume level and the extent to which you utilize the lighting and “DJ” effects. The feature of the XB60 I found intriguing, as well, is the ability to add an additional XB60 or numerous additional XB60s via the “party chain” feature. This is an amazing feature which would allow for creating a stereo or multi speaker setup. Now I just have to buy another XB60 and have a killer portable stereo experience. Overall the XB60 is simply amazing: powerful playback, wireless connectivity, audio and visual features, “party chain” capability, etc. The XB60 in my opinion represents the best portable Bluetooth speaker option currently available, perhaps aside from its bigger brother the XB90, and offers all the features, sound quality, one could ask for. The lighting and “DJ” features add additional entertainment value as well.

Almost maddening
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A single Sony unit? Perfect. Buy two and try to have them pair, and you have the most annoying and frustrating set of instructions known to man. It is pure ridiculousness. It’s like lumping through hoops while spinning plates on your head. And the instructions don’t make much sense, for example, it will tell you to hold a button down repeatedly. How long? How many times? If you’re told to hold it down, how can you repeat without letting go? And you have to do this EVERY TIME YOU WANT TO PAIR UP TWO SPEAKERS AND LISTEN TO THEM BOTH. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Then when you use the handles to pick them up and move them (they have to be close to pair up), the power buttons are located right next to the handle, so when you set it down, your palm hits the power button, shutting the whole thing down and you have to start from the beginning all over again. I have a strong desire to launch these out into the street and run them over a few times. Terrible setup and far too complicated to get paired up with an iPad.
