The most amazing speaker I've had by far!

Today I unboxed and gave this a try, expecting a beat box type speaker, without the fine detail needed to be a great speaker. I was wrong! This speaker is a speaker system, not just a speaker. I've had stereo systems and could sit in front of it listening to music for hours. It has been many years since this has happened, because many of today's speakers are not able to produce a full and rich listening experience. This speaker is a real sound system. It encompasses highs, mids, and lows unlike anything I've heard in many years. It is like installing a series of speakers and an equalizer, but all in one package. Plus this has super cool lights that only add personality to the music. I find the lights uplifting in a world of just plain black speakers on the market today. The app allows you to customize the apps you can shortcut to, but also change the light coloring system. The app works great with all the systems and helps you to interface with the speaker, such as tuning in FM stations (this speaker has a built in FM tuner and antenna). You will need some space for this, it is a beast. But a beast worthy of its space requirement. It is like 25 inches tall, 14 inches wide, and 15" deep. It is no joke. It weighs nearly 30 pounds, and has two built in handles that you cannot see, but work brilliantly to carry or move this. You can turn this on its side (has little rubber pads) or stand it up (also has little rubber pads). I found that for me, the up mode was the same as the side mode. Both were superb sound. Like all of the newer Sony speakers, this can be joined with other speakers and play in harmony. BUT you can also link 3 phones and/or tablets together to share playlists and increase the amount of songs available to be played. This has bluetooth, NFC, USB, microphone, and RCA jacks, all for input. I can tell you that in many cases playing music over bluetooth leaves you longing for more volume - but that wasn't the case with this. This produces so much sound that even if bluetooth is somewhat held back vs. wired, it was more than enough sound. This has the now famous Sony Extra Bass button and it works. And the live mode also works nicely. My preference is to leave extra bass on and live off. I found it filled the room perfectly without the need to turn on LIVE to make it sound like it filled the room. You can fill a neighborhood with sound using this speaker. It can be a beast if you want it to be. Or it can be a serious sound system. I've thought this could also be used at business meetings, to be a sound system in which you could use a microphone to make sure everyone heard the subject matter, but could also use the built in FM radio to fill the breaks with music vs. silence. I want to tell you that while I listen to all kinds of music, where this completely sold me was with a test drive of classical music. It can capture the entire range of a piano and violin duet, and found myself closing my eyes and getting lost in the music that was playing. It was as though I was at the concert hall and was right in the middle of a spectacular performance. Completely sold on this speaker system. I tested my normal standards music, ran through some classic rock, a few of my favorite old school rap songs, and some 70's pop music; all played like I was listening on a high end sound system. I own several of these newer Sony speakers and none of them have been a disappointment. I have them on my desk at work, in the bedroom, etc. and they are all great. This one however, is in a world all by itself. It sounds amazing. It is a great example of Sony's commitment to providing decent sounding speakers - but this one has gone to the next level. Thank you Sony, I'm beyond grateful for having a portable speaker that emulates what my high end sound system was able to do, all in a single unit, with some really cool lighting! Would I recommend this to a friend? Without a moment of hesitation. You'll see what I mean if you make this purchase.

Sony GTK-XB72 High Power Home Audio System with Bluetooth Technology This speaker is big, that’s an understatement. It has no battery and must be plugged into an outlet. It’s portable because it has a handle, but it is about the size of a normal home stereo speaker. The sound is clear but flat, you must equalize the input to get the desired sound from the speaker. It has lots of power and is actually loud enough to damage itself if pushed. There is a slight “ring” at the end of a certain frequency when played. It’s not noticeable unless the song ends on that frequency. I’m not going to go over all the controls, You can look in at the specs for that, I’ll just hit on the ones that don’t really make sense. The first is it has a MIC input for karaoke style singing with songs, but it doesn’t have any way to remove the singers voice. If you can’t remove their voice, why bother with the MIC input. This seem to really be a thing now. Companies adding MIC inputs where no MIC input is needed, I must be out of touch with how speakers and stereos are being used now. The speaker uses Party Chain to connect multiple speakers together for a more filling sound experience. There is no app currently just for the GTK-XB72, however the Sony Music Center app does see the speaker for what it is and has total control over it. I was not completely satisfied with the quality of the music from my phone, however when paired with my stereo the speaker has all the volume and punch it states, so you may have to do some phone tuning to get the best sound. This is a phone issue, not an issue with the speaker. The phone interface gives you control of the speaker including all functions, including the speakers built in FM tuner. This is a wonderful addition. You can have the speaker on your back porch and use your phone to change stations. Another app is “Fiestable”, it allows “party” type controls over the speaker or group of speakers. I was unable to see any use for this app, it looks like a gimmick to keep preteens occupied. I could be completely wrong on that, but I clicked everything in it and could see no use for it. The speaker’s lights seem to have only limited connection to the music. The strobe effects didn’t seem to be hitting with the bass beats, they seemed random to me. I’m no fan of lights on speakers anyways so I turned them off. Funny thing about turning them off, if you then turn off the speaker by the power switch on top of the unit, they come back on, while the unit is turned off. This must be some kind of indication that it’s plugged in. Once you turn them off in both settings they do seem to stay off. The speaker can be used in either horizontal or vertical positions. It actually changes the right and left outputs depending on how you have it setting. I give that a positive mark, it knows what you want and adjusts accordingly. It can take up to 3 devices connected via Bluetooth at the same time. There are no specs on the amplifier. With the sound it’s capable of putting out I would put it in the 15 to 20 watts range. Last year’s said 30 watts, it could be, but it doesn’t have that much punch. The “Live” button just seems to add a bunch of treble and tries to spread out the angle of the sound. I know my review is mostly critical, but I’m only trying to show you what to expect. If this speaker is used with a good input source, and you take the time to tune the speaker to the room, it can sound incredible. When paired with my stereo and equalized correctly it is room filling and sounds great. I simply couldn’t get my phone and the apps to do the same job. Again, phone issue, not speaker issue. My bottom line is this speaker could be the only speaker you need to fill a room or even house living room with sound. Tuned and equalized correctly this is a great sounding speaker. Sony states that this is a home audio system, since they have included an FM receiver in it, I will agree with that statement. You can add other inputs and use it as your daily listening system. Please take the time to look over the specs on the inputs of the speaker. Decide if this will fit your needs.

If you're looking for that party sound and sight, look no further than the Sony GTK-XB72! Very high volume with extreme clarity! I easily connected it to my phone and began playing my favorites. Sony has the Music Center app, allowing many different controls. The chassis also has corresponding buttons on the top. The case is designed to stand upright (about 28" tall) or on its side. The front of the chassis has multi-colored lights and strobes for a fun atmosphere. An additional free app, Fiestable, has many different DJ capabilities. Multiple units can all be linked together for use in a DJ setup.
