Super Super disappointed with the sound, this speaker is not loud at all!!! Speakers half the size are as loud as this one. I couldn't believe it, I purchased it on sale but still isn't worth the price. Sony usually makes great products but dropped the ball on this one.

I had high hopes for this speaker system. After purchasing Sony's excellent WH1000 headphones and my prior Sony TV's and audio gear (CD Players, Tape Decks, etc), I thought this would be a home run. SET-UP If you use this product with an Apple product, you will love the ease of set-up. After pairing the device via Bluetooth, your Apple product will automatically (with permission) open the App Store and display the 2 apps that you use to adjust its many parameters (Music Center & Fiestable). The Music Center iOS app allowed me to add my music subscription services without issue and I could either use the Music Center app to access these services within the app. A total breeze and a true delight. AWESOME! I was less successful with my Android phone. I tried to pair the speaker with my S7 via NFC. I had several unsuccessful attempts to pair with NFC and eventually just paired it manually via Bluetooth. The Android Music Center app worked very well & also allowed me to add my music services. Oddly, when you select add app (for your music services), the Sony Music Center app doesn't just display the music apps on your Android device, it displays every single app, regardless of its purpose installed on your phone. The Fiestable app didn't work so well either. The motion effects of the phone didn't work correctly and the whole Party Light function was a battery hog. PERFORMANCE These were my biggest disappointments. Sony uses 3 x 2" tweeters that are not high quality. Anyone that has had a good set of home stereo or car speakers will realize how important a good soft dome or titanium tweeter can be. Sony's appear to be a paper material (like what you would find in a cheap set of factory car speakers) and do not lend themselves to high quality music reproduction. Sony also touts XTRA BASS for this system, and that is good. If you unselect XTRA BASS (enabled by default), you literally get no bass. Even with XTRA BASS enabled, these are not high excursion, deep bass producing woofers. Second - The item has a built in FM tuner. It is entirely software based and you set the presets via your iOS or Android device. The tuner received all major broadcast stations in my area without issue, but suffers from a definite noise problem. It is not static, it is just digital noise that is always present in the background & cannot be fixed (it reminds me of analog tape hiss). The louder your music, the more noticeable it is, especially during the quiet passages. Third - Sony uses LDAC as opposed to the far more common Apt-X for Bluetooth streaming. LDAC offers up to 3 times the bandwidth of normal Bluetooth for superior sound quality. My S7 picked it up (iOS was out of the question) and I enabled it. Unfortunately, even under ideal conditions (less than 18 inches) from the speaker, my phone could not provide sufficient bandwidth (Prioritize Audio) to maintain a stream. Once I selected Prioritize Connection (this utilizes a far lower bitrate), it played without issue. But I feel it offered little, if any, discernible improvement over standard Bluetooth streaming. With all this long winded information, the speaker is fun. It has a good selection of input options, such as Bluetooth, NFC, a mic input for karaoke & the speaker even allows you to charge a phone and/or play files via USB. The Fiestable app allows you to play amateur DJ and adjust things like LED flash rate and color, create sound effects like scratching, audience applause, drums, cymbals, etc. If you throw large parties, it may be fun to play DJ and it is always fun to listen to how bad your buddies sing karaoke. With the ability to pair multiple devices via Bluetooth to the speaker, others can share their music with everyone. However, I quickly saw little value after the newness wore off. The speaker is link-able to other GTK-XB72's to expand the sound and the coverage. However, with the deficiencies noted above, there are better choices for streaming & sharing your music. Furthermore, these other major players offer similarly priced speakers with better, more detailed music reproduction. Some even account for your room acoustics. If you don't specifically need the karaoke function, the portability or the limited DJ enhancements, you are better served elsewhere.

Having used the much smaller Bluetooth Extra Bass speakers from Sony I thought I knew what to expect. But I was pleasantly surprised. The amount of Bass is amazing (should be with a name like Extra Bass) but the overall sound is also amazing. I’m no audiophile so I am not the person that will list all the technical aspects. But I’m the common user...the one that just wants something that sounds good and that I will gladly play my music on AND enjoy. This speaker represents that. I do like that there is an option to use an FM tuner that’s built in the system although I’ll be honest...not sure how often that would be a feature that I would use. But it’s great to have just in case. The gimmicky and fun lights feature is as expected (if you’re familiar from the other Bluetooth speakers by Sony that utilizes it), but of course that doesn’t affect the main purpose...which is the sound output. With it being a pretty big sized speaker I do like that you have the option of using it standing up or horizontal so that it’s easier to incorporate in your space. Overall, I think this speaker is definitely worth checking out. Great for everyday use as well as a great party/cookout/gathering option. And if you have any of the other Sony speakers that can utilize the chain feature you will be able to use them with this speaker.

This new XB-72 unit is a monster! Great sound output, excellent frequency range, and good distance coverage. It’s everything you could want for a large indoor or outdoor engagement where music is wanted. The only unusual properties are that this device seems confused about its identity - Is it a large Bluetooth PA-system-type unit, or is it just a really big party speaker? My verdict is its both, but more of the latter - While this new speaker has the range and sound quality (and arguably build quality) to handle larger applications, particularly with its co-pairing “party mode” which allows for multiple units and one audio source, the device is strictly designed for the consumer - Colored lights for the speaker grill and LED accents, or the standless design all lend the XB72 to instead be considered just a really large variant of the XB series - But with no battery power and a size/output jump that’s significant. The biggest surprise was the lack of a tripod mount of available stand from Sony - While the speaker has feet to allow it to sit horizontally or vertically, no stand hardware exists nor can universal screw-mount tripods or other such devices be used. This might be because standard tripod mount wouldn’t be enough to hold this beast. All in all, a great speaker with dependable Sony output, easy Bluetooth pairing, and helpful FM radio receiver (for certain use scenarios).b

I originally grabbed an open box item, under the open box price for this product. I finally reached the cashier, was advised that even tho the box was open, that was not an open box pricing. I advised that I then would want a close box, since I would be paying the same for an open box item vs a close brand new box. The representative advised me to go and grab the new product, instead of offering an employee to grab it for me.

If you are an audiophile who loves Big Sound then this masterpiece must be added to your collection! This behemoth of a speaker is great if you enjoy outdoor parties, picnics, or just easy home listening! The sound produced from this speaker is good. This speaker has EXTRA bass, which holds its own well! I experienced the DJ effect which was AWESOME as I am planning an outdoor event soon, suffice to say, this speaker came right on time! The main attraction is the beautiful strobe lighting that this speaker produces. I find myself mesmerized by the beautiful strobe lights that accompany this speaker. If you’re looking for something BIG that produces BIG, then Sony has answered your call! You truly won’t be disappointed in its performance!

If you like to host backyard gatherings, tailgating or picnicking... you have to check this speaker out! I was impressed with the sound and bass this Sony speaker offered. The AM/FM radio and microphone connectivity is a nice touch, however I really wanted this to be a battery operated speaker as well. It's really not for constant movement, but rather a mobile stationary speaker. Not saying this is a heavy speaker 'cause it's not, it's probably the best sounding speaker in it's field, hands down. You can download the app to change the lighting effects and also "DJ" sounds are available. It's definitely made for parties, but I use it for backyard gatherings. Daisy chaining is a great option, but this can handle great by itself. I would recommend purchasing this when it's on sale. It does have a hefty price tag for a non battery operating speaker. Thanks.

The Sony GTK-XB72 High Power Home Audio System delivers high quality audio that will fill any room in your home. It's very simple to setup, and has a variety of options, including bluetooth making it extremely easy to pair with a mobile device and enjoy your favorite playlists. The speakers produce crisp tones from lower frequencies through the high frequency ranges. I use the Sony GTK-XB72 to stream the audio from my mobile device while watching movies and even playing games and it enhances the audio experience tremendously. I would highly recommend the Sony GTK-XB72 High Power Home Audio System with Bluetooth Technology. You will definitely enjoy the immersive sound that is produced by this speaker system.

Setup was a breeze, instructions were good and the app loaded and worked great oin my Pixel. Large but portable with great sound and usability. I combine this XB72 with my XB22 and XB31 as a sound system for my home theatre using the wireless party chain mode and it's very nice and convenient to store away again after - although the XB72 id rather large itself.
