HTA7000 or previous model HTST5000
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this new model last week compare with its former model HTST5000 which I had. I can't tell if this is a better soundbar. One con of this soundbar. The front screen can't be remove whenever you want, so cleaning the speaker itself is impossble. Also it is not as nicely build compares to his former model. I would like to hear from anybody who own the previous model . What do theybthink of this new model.

It's the holodeck of sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Note that this sound bar is being reviewed as part of the entire 7.1.2 channel speaker system including the SA-RS3S rear speakers and SA-SW5 subwoofer. If Star Trek’s holodeck existed, this would be the sound system they use. My previous system was the Sony HT-Z9F, and I wanted a new sound bar that had a more memorable model number. That and the fact that my old one was no longer reliable. Often, there would be a delay of 5 to 10 seconds before the sound would come through after turning on the TV. The setup of the A7000 system is about as easy as it gets. The wireless rears and subwoofer connect automatically to the sound bar. Once that’s done, you can run an auto-configuration in which the sound bar will play some tones to measure the speaker placement. No more pulling out a tape measure to check distance, though you still can if you want. I thought the sound of my old Z9F, however, was fantastic. But Sony has upped the sound quality even more in the A7000. The A7000 is a hefty sound bar and no doubt its size helps it create the enormous sound stage it produces. It has speakers that direct sound forward, upwards, as well as towards the side. And each of those speakers is engineered for hitting just the right acoustic. When connected to the wireless rear speakers and subwoofer, the result is a rich, full, sound the envelopes you. Watching UltraHD movies on Netflix, for example, makes you feel like you’re in the middle of the action. Sony also has a setting called Immersive Audio Enhancement (AE) to “convert” regular audio as if it were 7.1.2. Initially I thought it would sound too artificial. Obviously if the source signal is not 7.1.2, the sound bar can’t actually direct sound to the correct location. But once I got used to Immersive AE’s simulation, turning it off made the sound noticeably less rich. Like many sound bars, there is a separate volume setting to punch up the sound of voice. Whereas I had maxed out that setting on the Z9F, dialogue from the A7000 was perfectly discernible without needing to adjust the voice volume. Though the speaker system aims squarely for watching movies and shows, its 360 Reality Audio implementation is also remarkable for music services that offer premium quality sound: Amazon Music HD (included with their Unlimited plan), Tidal and Nugs.net. Though these services sound great with headphones, hearing this quality of music in a room speaker system is liberating. There are a couple of negatives, and for that, I’d really rate this as 4.5 stars. First, the rear spears sound great as expected, but they don’t fire upwards. Instead, they are standard configuration rears. Second, the 300W subwoofer is a beast and I can understand why it’s at additional cost. At the price point of the sound bar by itself, however, I think it would be a better value if Sony had at least included the 200W subwoofer, and perhaps the rear speakers as well. In any case, this system delivers premium sound with ease of install and ease of use. The sound bar by itself will enhance any room. But the addition of the wireless rear and subwoofer speakers adds an amazing dimension not to be missed.

Posted .Hi ricks, Great! We appreciate your detailed review. We're thrilled to hear that you like the sound quality, features, and ease of setup. The HT-A7000 has 7.1.2 channels, two up-firing speakers for overhead sound, two beam tweeters and five front speakers for wider surround and a built-in dual subwoofer for deep bass. With Vertical Surround Engine and S-Force PRO Front Surround, HT-A7000 creates virtual surround sound that comes from all around you so you can fully enjoy the thrill of Dolby Atmos® and DTS:X®. Thanks to Sony’s virtual surround technology, the soundbar can position sound in vertical space—so you can experience 3D audio without the need for in-ceiling speakers. As well as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, Vertical Surround Engine lends a more realistic, multi-dimensional sound to other formats, too. Thank you for choosing Sony. Erin

Posted .Hi SarahD,
Thanks for reaching out to us with your concern. We are sorry to hear if you find the HT-A7000 sound quality not as great as you would have liked and it hasn't performed to your standards. We understand that we have different preference when it comes to audio. That is why we include ways to adjust the sound quality and sound effects to your liking. All of this is included in the manual that came with the unit.
To ensure sound is being output from the speaker system (and optional speakers), we recommend that you press the IMMERSIVE AE to turn on the Immersive Audio Enhancement function, the speaker system upmixes audio signals, and sound is output from all speakers. Additionally, make sure to run Sound Field Optimization so that the soundbar can calibrate its performance to your environment, and that it sounds like it was engineered to be in your room.
We regret to hear that the speaker had to be returned. We could've walked you through with some troubleshooting and offer assistance with our product.
We hope you will consider Sony again in a future purchase. Thank you for the feedback.
Sincerely,
Jess

Surround Speakers really make a difference
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This sound bar packs a huge punch. I got this sound bar together with the sub and surround sound speakers. Before setting up the other speakers I used this sound bar by itself. Even without the extra help this sound bar is pretty amazing. I have this with my 70” TV in medium sized room and the sound felt like it was surrounding me even without the extra speakers. All the voices are very clear and distinct and you get a bit of a surround sound effect even without the extra speakers. However, even with all the advances of technology, no sound bar sitting in front of you can ever really match multiple speakers placed around a room. The sound bar is the brains of this system and after pulling out the additional speakers, it was a piece of cake to sync everything up. In fact, I was looking for a menu or button to activate the pairing mode when I noticed a screen saying that everything was already paired. It took less the 3 minutes in all. Another thing I like is that I tried a different brand of soundbar with surround speakers and you had a weird manual system to try and set the surrounds to the right volume settings to get a good surround sound effect. This system comes with an optimization menu / program which made the whole thing just work so simply. On the topic of setup, each speaker needs a power outlet, but other than that the wireless connection seems to be strong at any reasonable distance you would use these things. I feel that I was able to install everything without needing really any invasive drilling, running of wires, or ugly visible connectors. It was a very easy, simple and clean setup and perfect for someone that doesn’t want their surround sound system to require calling an electrician or general contractor. After the system was fully set up I testing things out with a 4k full Dolby Atmos, bells and whistles movie. Wow, I was really blown away. I have a wired system on my other TV that is an older 5.1 system and I really think this soundbar and added speakers blew my wired system out of the water. I also plugged in a PS4 and the surrounds make a big difference in those small isolated noises that are supposed to be coming from behind you. That is what a center sound bar along really can’t compete with a more robust system on. The box says 7.1 and I guess it feels a bit like that, but I feel like the home theater rooms at any brick and mortar store with 7 different speakers (more if you include the Atmos speaker and sub) still sound more realistic and detailed, but it does feel much more than a 5.1 system if that is what you are moving from. I did struggle a bit with the Atmos part though. My understanding of Atmos is that it is supposed to add a bit of a vertical component to the surround sound experience. This sound bar did it to an extent, but not super noticeably. I got the extra dimension of sound a bit, but maybe I’m just too picky and expected more. My real complete with however is with the mounting brackets. My setup has a wall mounted TV and I wanted a wall mounted sound bar too. This comes with brackets for that, and in fact they are very nice brackets. However, the design of the speaker son the top of the soundbar is such that with brackets directly under the tv (as opposed to a sound bar sitting on a stand slightly in front of the TV), the bottom of the TV overhands the sound bar a bit and I think its blocking or messing up the sound coming from the top of the speakers. Maybe if I mounted my speakers above my TV it would help, or just got a TV stand to set it in front of my TV, but I feel like my setup options are being limited because of this. Then again, I’ll admit that I don’t always feel that the high end headsets make as big a difference as my friends do to the immersive sound so maybe it’s just me and I am picker about some of the more subtle sounds. HDMI pass/through worked as expected. Nothing to write home about and nothing to complain about. I did like that the programmers thought ahead and had the default setting for HDMI control set to on. I was able to get the soundbar on and working without even doing the setup or putting batteries in the remote. It just knew I turned on the TV and turned itself on. If you don’t have additional speakers to add, you could easily plug this in out of the box and start using it without cracking open any of the accessories (including the remote). Overall I am very happy with this system and am becoming more and more convinced that a good wireless setup can be as good as the wired systems most people would consider

A true flagship system (with all the components)
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have to address the elephant in the room. Which is the price. The soundbar alone costs two times as much as my actual TV. But it's like putting a corvette engine in a beetle's body. Which means it can be done and has been done. In other words, the soundbar and it's components do to discriminate in making your TV better than it can be without a soundbar. Honestly, this is a true flag ship sound system that Sony has released here. I mean when I got the soundbar, it's almost as long as my 65 inch TV. To boot it's large and heavy because it's 11 speakers stuffed into this soundbar. The unboxing has everything you need including a high speed HDMI cable. The set up was simple as you can get. Connect to an ARC/eARC port on your TV and corresponding port on the soundbar and you are good to go! The different thing about this soundbar is that you can actually go into the settings on the TV. This will give you the place to go into the settings of the soundbar to connect to your favorite smart assistants being Alexa or Google. I opted for both but each will require a dedicated smart device to operate. My prior soundbar system had Alexa built in which was super convenient, even though I am a Google household rather than Alexa. The built in Alexa gave me more access to the Alexa ecosystem than just the app on my device, which was fun. However this does not have a built in smart assistant. Rather it has a built in chromecast, which is kind of weird to me. For me I know chromecast is a device to cast videos and audio, not just audio. It's not a bad thing ,but I do not see myself using this feature, because my TV has chromecast built in already. I would have preferred a built in smart assistant but that's ok, I have a few google speakers to perform this if I want it. Now to the sound. It is robust and sounds great but having subwoofer in my old system, I had to test out the other components like the compatible subwoofer and rear speaker system. Install is easier than plug and play. It's just plug and place! All the components paired without me doing a thing. With everything connected, it felt like when Voltron forms from the 5 components, it just feels right. The bass from the subwoofer is nice and clear and precise, where the rear speakers bring in the rear and do give the true 360 experience that Sony advertises. Even the automatic setting to ensure the correct balance is done wirelessly and is done from it's speakers and microphones to calculate the best balance from each other. So of course, you will need to be not in the line of sound when you set this up. And because of this, there is not setting to equalize. It is done through the automatic setting in the app that can be viewed on your TV. It kind of reminds me of a projector menu but it works. In that setting, besides the assigning your preferred smart assistant, you can also set up Spotify that is paired with Alexa in a way. This way, is not a bad way by any means. It's just....let's say different, In playing multiple formats of movies in ultra HD on Netflix to blasting music on Spotify, this system sings when everything is in sync with each other. I love the highs and bass when you need it and is not muddy with no distortion what so ever. So would I recommend this product? Well because of the price, I have to say if you can swing it, however with one caveat. To buy the subwoofer AND rear speakers. The extra cash is worth every single cent.

Amazing Sound for Movies, Music, & Games
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.// Setup For having so many features this soundbar is darn simple to set up. Plug it it, attach the included HDMI cable to your TV via an ARC capable HDMI port, and follow the on-screen set up process which takes about 3-5 minutes. During the set up process it will play sounds which the speaker uses to analyze your room for the optimum sound to be firing from the multi directional speakers. // Sound Quality The first thing I did was listen to some music from Spotify and was quite frankly blown away. Easily some of the best sound quality I have ever experienced (and I own other components from Definitive Technology and the sound quality is easily comparable - sometimes exceeding). Then I put on some higher fidelity tracks including masters from Tidal and this really showed off what this system can do. Highs were crystal clear and crisp without being piercing, lows were very low, even without an external subwoofer but worry not, they also have specific external subs that are designed to work with this system that compliment it very, very well. One drawback is that there isn’t much in terms of fine-tuning profiles. You can adjust the highs and lows including the subwoofer level itself, but if you are looking for adjust numerous frequencies you may be disappointed. That said, I found the sound profiles for music, movies, and cinema to be distinct and worked very well for their intended media types. For movies this is an optimum soundbar with 7.1.2 channels and Dolby Atmos. It’s truly one of those things you have to hear to believe where it make it seem that sound is coming from the front, the sides, above, and behind you all while being “just” a soundbar. It’s phenomenal. It’s also very ideal for gaming where it has a 4K/120 passthrough so you can experience the games at a whole different level. // Accessories I also have the accessory rear speakers and the SA-SW5 subwoofer that can be purchased separately. Honestly, the soundbar by itself is amazing and the accessories do bring it to yet another level. Like I mentioned earlier, I already had a high priced system from a competitor and it was the best I ever heard and this took it up quite a few notches. This Sony soundbar isn’t cheap but I do think it’s worth the money. Highly recommended!

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The newest Sony sound bar, the HT-SA7000 is a 500 watt sound bar with 5 front speakers, 2 up-firing speakers, 2 directional tweeters, and dual subwoofers all in a sleek, attractive package that packs a punch! Has optional (separate) sub-woofer and surround speakers which can be purchased but aren't necessary. Sound bar has easy on screen set up instructions and utilizes a "sound optimization" feature which adapts the sound to your listening environment. The "up-firing" speakers reflect the sound off the ceiling, while the directional tweeters force sound outward to produce a sound that truly surrounds you. The unit comes with 2 HDMI + HDMI EARC, a USB port, optical-in, and an "S-center" port for use with a Sony TV which uses the TV's speakers to become your center channel (I do not have a Sony TV but imagine that this feature would be cool). Although the SA7000 is a little pricey, it provides an impressive sound that easily fills any room. Also includes voice control for use with Google or Alexa, and the blue-tooth allows you to pair it with your favorite music source, or you can "air play" directly to it. I ran across a couple negatives but they are minor. Like may sound bars, this one is tall and since my TV is on its own stand, the sound bar obscures the remote sensors of my TV.I ended up putting it behind my TV which probably limits it somewhat but it is still very impressive. Of course, this wouldn't be an issue if your TV was wall-mounted or if you mount the sound bar on the wall using the included template and brackets. I also receive my television signal "OTA" (over the air) paired with a Tivo. Unfortunately this created a delay issue between the audio and video where the mouths and voices do not match. I attempted to correct this in the TV (I have a Samsung) settings but this did not remedy the problem. The only solution I've found (so far) is to change the settings on the Tivo from Dolby to PCM. This took care of the sync issues but limits the Dolby options of the sound bar. If streaming directly through the TV, I do not have this sync issue. Maybe there is a better fix for this - I'll keep searching. This is impressive and could possibly eliminate the need for an A/V receiver - it sounds that good!

Posted .Hi Michael, we appreciate your detailed review. We are truly glad that you are enjoying the sound quality, features, and ease of setup. Erin
