    Great when it works, but frustrating

    The sound gets choppy and cuts in and out several times a day. The cause I believe is the WiFi, but still, at this price point, if the product has to be resynced and rebooted daily, I’d would not have released it. It only works great under ideal WiFi conditions and we all know most of us don’t have that luxury.

One of the possible solutions to the issue is by updating the firmware of the Home Theater System for optimum performance and improve stability of the wireless speaker connection. The software update improves the general performance of the unit and includes key features, applications, and bug fixes.

      Check the line of sight for every speakers to the control box as this may also resolve the issue with the audio cutting out. Set the Wireless Playback Quality to Priority on Stable Connection.

    Problem with sound cutting in and out since after the warranty period. They won't refund us. Sony won't help. We go through the same service steps. $2000 worth of crap.

    Too much lag, no real fix

    Tried and tried to get these working consistently but the fixes never stuck. There was too much lag in the signal, causing audio drop outs constantly. If there was a time when i thought i had fixed it, the fix would last only a day or so. The drop outs occurred so much that it was impossible to enjoy any media. I tried every fix that Sony recommended: moved anything wireless away from the system, reset the RF channel every time drop outs occurred, set sound mode to favor connection over quality, nothing worked in the long run. Resetting the RF channel would sometimes make things bearable for a single sitting, but next time i turned the system on the issues would return. This is a known issue, please look up some reviews that address audio drop outs if youre considering buying this system. I switched to a different wireless system around the same price point and wow, not one issue. At this price point, the customer shouldnt have to run troubleshooting every single time they turn on the system.

    Dead speaker out of the box

    It may or may not sound good, but instead of being able to experience what cost almost $2,000, I get to hear an endless series of beeps as the setup fails to complete because one of the speakers cannot power on. Sony customer service was very polite, but they couldn't fix the issue and could only offer to have me pack up the entire system and mail it to them (an additional hassle). There is no excuse for a product like this is be DOA, and with everything out of stock, I can't swap it out for a different unit. Sony will check/repair them, but I'm not thrilled with owning such an unreliable product going forward. Not after all the hype videos and breathless promotional promises. Nice job, Sony.

    Drop outs

    The system does some "magic" wireless channel selection that interferes with 5GHz Wi-Fi and there's no way to force a channel like I can on my access points. So if this thing ends up on a good channel, everything works great. If not, playing any media is unbearable. Sony has not fixed this seemingly pervasive issue despite this product being sold for several years. I will never buy any Sony product ever again since they seem to treat their customers like garbage.

    I’ve got the ht-a9 paired with a Sony a95k as the center channel and an sw5 subwoofer and just crazy awesome. The sound quality is amazing. With the latest firmware, we haven’t had any drop out issues.

    Not Entirely Wireless.

    I returned the surround sound system because it was advertised as “wireless”, which in fact only applies to audio. Each speaker requires an AC outlet and a very short power cord is supplied. I don’t have outlets near the location I wanted to use for the rear speakers. I think this fact should have been made clear in the product description. We have many things that run on rechargeable batteries and I poorly assumed the speakers would be the same. Misleading advertising. I am very disappoint.

      Thank you for telling us about your experience with your HT-A9 and we're sorry to learn it didn't meet your expectations. Your feedback is extremely important to us and is very much appreciated. This Home Theater System comes with an AC power cords (mains lead) for speakers and AC adaptor for the control box as they need to be plugged into the wall outlet. They do not have a built-in battery.

      HT-A9's speakers wirelessly connect to the control box, allowing you to place them anywhere in the room. The wireless connectivity is done via Sony's own uniquely developed protocol for optimal performance. Sound Field Optimization allows you to have the speakers at different heights and distances and will measure the position of each speaker to create the best sound for your room. This makes the HT-A9 versatile layout with wireless connection.

      It's also unfortunate that the unit had to be returned. We hope you will consider Sony again in a future purchase.

    Dead right rear speaker

    Right Rear speaker dead out of box. Returned immediately. Tried Sony support but couldn’t get it working. Took it right back to the store and guess what lol. Sold out. Just read another review with same problem. Seems Sony would have their crap together with a 1800 sound system. Oh well.

    Anyone sensing a theme here? The right rear speaker will not sync with the system. The speaker will not reset and I have tried all the typical trouble shooting methods. This will be returned and I will stick with a product that works.

    Do NOT Buy

    This item did not function in my home. The sound kept dropping between the speakers consistently. The HTA9 is too unreliable and cannot be used in all homes. Combined with short cables (4.7 feet), I cannot recommend this. A soundbar is a better alternative for wireless. I am returning this item within less than 24 hours of using it.

    Setup up FAILED to work in my Vaulted Ceiling Room

    I had to return. The set up process stated that I had the front and back speakers reversed but each speaker is labeled and was in the correct place each time I tried. Although they work without the customization to your room feature, I would only be getting a fraction of the potential of the speakers. Not sure if the vaulted ceiling played a factor here???

    This product has problems, the sound cuts out and Sony Customer Service is the worst. While other people may not have problems, I have and it shows Sony doesn't have the quality it thinks it does.
