The sound quality, when the system works, is exceptional. However, the wireless instability of the speakers ruins the overall experience and enjoyment of the system. Limited options to troubleshoot and or manually configure wireless channels at this price point is also unacceptable. Sony will have users turn off RF optimization and then turn back on so the system can attempt to use a better RF channel. This may or may not work and if it does works, the wireless stability will break down in a relative short time. It is evident Sony needs to reevaluate the wireless chipset and firmware it uses in this product, The hardware is clearly impacted from cost reductions in components.

Incredible Surround Sound System!

Setup was easy! Not sure why there have been so many comments on the setup when all you have to do is follow it step by step! Very impressed with movie soundtracks in both Dolby and DTS formats! Great sound, no pairing issues yet

Was a little nervous with all of the pairing issues some of the first reviewers were having, but I have had none of that this far (about a month into use). Easy setup and paired seamlessly with our A80J TV as the 5th center speaker.

I paired it with the SW5 subwoofer everything bought at Best Buy. I am extremely surprised with the sound quality. The fact that there is no center channel gives you more freedom to place the speakers anywhere you want to. I wanted a sound system that is easy to install and gives me the cinema feeling. Congratulation sonny with this marvelous product.

Outstanding Performance, Just Update Software!

The setup was a little tricky and I had to head over to troubleshooting when it found 0/4 speakers during initial setup. I had to hold the power button for 10 seconds on each speaker to reset the speakers and then plug each back in during setup, but they synced right up with the base station after that and I have had absolutely zero dropouts since setup. There is a firmware update for the base station and speakers that fix the connectivity issues a lot of earlier reviewers complained about. After initial setup and the firmware update, the connection has been rock solid. You may also want to play a little with the manual settings if your setup is off-center a bit and that made a huge difference in my room. Overall, the size of the virtual soundstage and Dolby Atmos performance are truly breathtaking. Best of all? Vocals are so clear that we’ve finally turned off subtitles!

As my first step into Atmos I couldn't be happier. Immersive sound and paired with the sw5 sub makes it even better. Sony's 360 reality audio is no joke. It will blow your mind. Set up was super easy. I did have to move my wifi router away from the system because of interference.

Pairs effortlessly with Sony TVs and supports Acoustic Center Sync. Immersive sound quality. But, needs to be reset more often than I like - even after the recommeded software update. Please work on RF channel interference. Its 2023, and most houses have multiple smart devices on 2.5/5G channels.

Install the control box and speakers at a distance of 1.5 m (5 ft) or more from a wireless LAN router, etc. It may be improved by changing the direction or the antenna’s angle of the wireless LAN router. Remove or move any obstacle between the control box and the speakers.

Loved the sound it made. It’s a very next gen system with incredible atmos ability. Atmos music is also very good. Hopefully Sony fixes networks issues with gen 2 it’s definitely the future.

Music was punchy and detailed and surround effects and Dolby Atmos were fantastic. Two significant downsides, the size if the speakers and “empty” center channel. Both made a traditional soundbar with atmos and rear surrounds a better option for my space. Highly recommend the Samsung Q990b as a setup with equivalent sound but a grand less expensive!

It really does sound like you have 15 speakers in perfect configuration firing off at you with both surround and verticality being top notch. And the fact that the virtual center speaker is better then every soundbar I tried with a physical speaker is amazing. The only downside is you have to be very aware of placement, particularly to get the virtual center speaker right, don’t have anything blocking their line of sight to each other or where the virtual speaker would be to you (don’t place them behind the TV for example). The only other downsides are that the speakers really don’t like having Wi-Fi routers anywhere near them (you’ll get drop outs) and their shape makes finding stands for them tough. Otherwise the best sound system I have ever purchased. Also buy the wireless sub because the bass out the box doesn’t have that oomph.

Stunning 3-D and Dolby Atmos. No issue at all no center channel and voices. For me, best if front speakers are no greater than about 8,5 feet apart or depth of sound stage starts to collapse a bit and is not as vivid sounding. Also lips get larger and dialog is not as clear. (We sit 14 ft away from the screen). Lightening quick calibration. SW5 vibrates on floor on loud passages. Recommend Isoacoustic Oreas with SW5. Substantial improvement in bass quality. Menu system is flawless. We also purchased the Samsung 990B and are trying to decide between the two systems. The Samsung is also terrific and much less expensive. The A9 is more pinpoint accurate in imaging but the Samsung feels sightly more natural. Surprisingly 990B has a wider soundstage at times (sometimes much wider) and the subwoofer goes deeper and is more linear than the Sony SW5 which is more punchy. Also surprising is the dialog is a tad clearer with the Sony which doesn't have a center channel. Both are great systems and very dynamic. The calibration of the Samsung is ridiculously slow (about a minute or two for just the subwoofer) but it works. But are good with music with maybe a slight edge to the Samsung. Tough decision between the two systems but you will not go wrong with either one. Fortunately we are stuck in a massive storm and have more time to decide.

The HT-A5000 alone does provide pretty good surround/immersion experience...As long as you have a small/symmetrical room. It was great in our bedroom with clear dialog, but not so much in our open family. The A5000 with the SW3 did add a punch on the lower end, but that's it. May be the additional wireless surround speakers (RS3S) can over come that issue. The HT-A9 with SW5 is awesome in our open family room. I combine it with the X95K 85" as a center channel and the dialog did significantly improved with Voice mode. Surround/immersion experience is just amazing. This combination is way better than my previous 5.1 setup with towers, center and bi-polar rear speakers...Especially in 7.1 (Dolby Atmos and DTS:X etc.). The openning scene of Dungeons & Dragons make me feel like I was in the middle of a blizzard.

Expensive but Worth It

In looking for a new sound system I had settled on a wireless system and was considering either a sound bar with satellite rear speakers/sub or this system. All of the research I had done led me to believe that this system was going to be the best fit for my situation. Setup was a breeze. I have had no issues with dropout after making sure my wireless router is on the other side of the room. The only issues with dropout I have had was when I tried to place an AppleTV on top of the HT-A9 box, when I moved it back to the side I have had no other issues. The Auto 360 spatial sound on music is truly impressive. If you live somewhere with an excessively crowded wireless spectrum or have a metric ton of wireless devices this might not be a great option but with a Mesh Wifi system and the router/satellites on the other end of the room I have not had any issues.

Plug and play surround sound!
