However, not being able to turn off Sony's "surround sound" technology makes music sound weird. This would really, really benefit from an actual EQ.

Definite improvement over tv speakers
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Soundbar setup was simple and painless, but getting my TV to output audio via its ARC HDMI port took a bit of fiddling around. But once that was done, the soundbar quickly connected to the wireless subwoofer and I was up and running. Although somewhat better than the TV speakers, the soundbar sound quality from TV sources was good but not outstanding. However, when I switched to the Bluetooth input and paired with my Android phone (it should work equally well with an iphone), the sound from my Pandora app was very, very good. I experimented using the various sound modes but could not discern any big differences. My TV is mounted above the fireplace and the soundbar sits in front of the TV on the mantel. Although the soundbar provides an IR repeater, that part of the soundbar did not line up with my TV's IR receiver. Fortunately, the soundbar is small enough that I could push it far enough to one side without blocking the TV IR receiver. In most instances, the subwoofer did its job well without booming even though it was cranked all the way up. Once in a while, a TV program would have a bit more bass tone which came through quite well. All in all, it is very good product that performed quite well. I have no prior soundbar experience although I do have a 5.1 entertainment system setup in another room which sounds much, much better but also cost much, much more. This soundbar managed to fill our rather large 15x30 ft living room without straining itself, so I would expect it to also work great in smaller rooms. This soundbar is both a very good product as well as a good value.
