This sound bar combo will work with any TV with either a HDMI ARC once cable or optical connection, but if you have a Sony BRAVIA TV it will receive audio wirelessly to reduce cable confusion! I have a Sony BRAVIA TV and I can say the wireless connection is flawless with zero lag, and the sound bar settings appear in the TV sound settings! It also features Bluetooth connectivity for audio streaming. The sound bar has HQ Dolby Digital with S-Force PRO front Surround that really makes you feel like you’re in the middle of the action. The front speakers are called “X-Balanced” and are rectangular to maximize the output. The wireless subwoofer has a 160mm speaker and which provides a deep bass sound. The remote is compact and has dedicated buttons for volume, sound settings, input, bass, mute and power. The sound bar gives you the additional choice of a “voice” setting for clearer speech, a “night mode” which lowers the volume/bass and “Sound Field” which converts stereo audio into surround. And the sound bar has an OLED display that gives feedback on the remote-control functions. And this is the only sound bar I’ve had that has a completely flat back so you can flush mount it to a wall. This is a really great unit for those with limited...or unlimited space that just want great sound!

Amazing Sound Especially at this price

This sound bar is amazing especially at the price point. The Sony S400 has 2.1 channels, 330 W of total output, a wireless subwoofer and a remote. The inputs are Bluetooth, HDMI (1) and Optical. One of the main features is that it only has front facing speakers. They are rectangular to maximize the diaphragm, this helps with the quality of the surround sound. The 160mm wireless sub, has a rich tone that you would expect from a higher priced Sub, it handles the lowest of lows without any distortion of sound. To really get a true understanding of the range of depth this sub has, turn it up loud and feel the music. It is really great for watching movies, since it is wireless you can put it behind you and get a true since of the action going on around you. There are multiple sounds setting that you can control with the remote. You can adjust the Bass, there is a night mode that dampers the sound so you do not disturb your neighbor. There is voice mode that helps when all of the background noise in a movie washes out the voices. Then there is Sound Field which makes conventional audio into surround sound. As I stated earlier, this is a great speaker, it has a lot of feature and sound that you would expect from a much higher priced system.

    Nice upgrade from TV speakers

The Sony HTS400 2.1 sound bar is a very nice upgrade to the tiny speakers built into most TV sets. The system includes a sound bar that fits nicely under a television from 46 inches or lager and a front firing sub woofer. The sound is good, not boomy, and with the voice setting set to on, voices are easily heard over the background noise in most shows that makes is so hard to hear what the actors are saying. It is not a particularly loud speaker, but for a small to medium size room, it will fill the space nicely. Higher volumes do not seem to take away from the sound quality. Set up was as easy as plugging into a power outlet and hooking to the HDMI/ARC port on the television, or the optional optical cable if you do not have an ARC capable television. With ARC, my television recognized the soundbar and switched to it for output. The sound bar comes on with the TV and will go to sleep when the TV is turned off. You can play TV sound or you can blue tooth another device for music. All controls are simple to use and seem to work without any issues. Overall, it is a nice sound bar for smaller sized rooms. I use this one on my bedroom TV.

A fantastic soundbar for your home audio pleasure that won’t break the bank. This 2.1 virtual surround system has a wireless subwoofer that puts out 130w of power and the system offers a total combined 330w of power. You can connect audio via Bluetooth, optical audio, and HDMI ARC. I prefer the ARC connection which allows me to control the audio on the TV as well. Set up is a snap and the unit includes a handy remote control as well. The remote allows you to control the input and the column. You can mount this on the wall or set it on the stand in front of the tv. It puts out a massive sound from a sleak and minimalist design. One cool item the front offers OLED Stu’s display. Music, movies, dialogue all come through in a gorgeous rich sound. I am very impressed. If you are looking for your first sound bar or looking for an upgrade this is definitely worth it. Bonus if you have certain BRAVIA tvs this will work seamlessly with the TV. No wires.

    Basic but Effective

This is probably the most basic sound bar I've had, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. One of the limiting factors that may make this one less attractive is the lack of inputs. This soundbar is designed to work through HDMI ARC mainly but also includes an optical input. If you need a coax digital input or analog input, this is not the hardware for you. Be sure your TV supports ARC before moving forward! There is also bluetooth connectivity. I set up my laptop through BT and was impressed at how accurate lip sync is. There was no latency that I was able to observe, making this ideal for improving the sound from BT devices. Latency may vary by type of device though. The remote is very basic but feels sturdy. The bar offers very basic sound functionality and there are buttons to turn on a virtual surround mode, boost voices and to turn on night mode, which mellows out the sound a bit. You can also adjust the level of the wireless subwoofer. I keep confusing the rocker switch for the sub with the volume, which is actually mapped to the large circular button on the remote. There are otherwise no other tone controls. The main speaker can be flush-mounted to the wall. There is no hardware included, but there are two "Keyholes" on back that simply slip over the top of a screw head, so nothing exotic is needed other than a couple sturdy screws into studs. The overall look is sleek and clean. There is a small display on front under the grill that shows the mode or input briefly then disappears and is not distracting. The subwoofer is slightly larger than I thought it would be and has a matching appearance. At first I wasn't too impressed with the bass but found that it improved with different placement. Be sure to try it in different places for the best sound. One way to do it is to put the sub in your viewing position (i.e. on your chair) and then wander around the room until it sounds good to you. That's the spot you should place it. I wouldn't recommend this for a serious home theater setup, but this is ideal for basic use if your TV doesn't have great sound on its own.

I was extremely skeptical at first after seeing some of the one-star reviews, but MAN im so glad I didn't listen to the negative reviews! This is hands down the best speaker/sub combination i have EVER heared for this type of a price point. Purchased it open-box in excellent condition for just $137 and i must say... the subwoofer sounds SOOO good I would've gladly paid full price! Really sounds like you're in a movie theater if you out the bass on max. I suggest this product for small to medium sized rooms. Also, I HIGHLY recommend putting the subwoofer by your couch.. and NOT by your tv. The sound quality is a million times better with the sub by your couch.. you'll thank me later!

Amazing clarity and depth of field on this sound bar! I love that the wireless subwoofer has separate volume adjustment. The value on this unit is great as well, it doesn't cost too much and what you get for the money is totally worth it. The setup looks great under my TV and adds to the feel of the room, something other sound bars have failed to do in the past. The surround sound is amazing when watching movies, and syncing a phone up via Bluetooth for music is a breeze! Overall this is a very easy to use system, with great sound, at a reasonable price!

Great Sound Bar for a Great Price

Great set up for its price! (esp. the sale we had one it!). It was very easy to set up and also it sounds great! Nice simple customizations for it and also its great that the subwoofer connects to the sound bar wireless. So less clutter to have around! The Sound bar itself has the usual connections, being the HDMI Arc, USB, and Digital Optical Audio (or whatever its called).

Great soundbar + sub especially considering the price. It's only 2.1 so don't expect a huge surround effect but it is pretty good. Pretty powerful too, the box says 330 watts. Not sure where they get that number from but it does get pretty loud. Good quality sound, the sub has a good thump to it. I like the display on the soundbar. It normally displays the source but changes to show adjustments as well. Nice remote controls most functions, buttons on top of the soundbar as well. I only needed the buttons on the soundbar to pair my phone with the built in bluetooth for a really good music experience. I didn't really appreciate how good it sounded till I played some high quality music on it. Great sound for this price range. Inputs include hdmi (arc from tv), optical, and bluetooth wireless. Short optical cable included but hdmi cable not included. I personally prefer hdmi connection for tv/movies but optical is probably just as good. You will likely need to go into your tv settings to tell it to output the sound to your connection. Easy setup, the wireless sub (sub requires ac power connection) connected automatically. In my experience most speakers require a short break in period to get to their full potential so give them a few days of use before judging them. If you're on a tight budget or just want a simple way to improve your tv/movie experience and good music as well this is an affordable choice with great sound.

    It's an OK Sound Bar

It's better than Nothing. It was decent sound for a Lower End Sony Sound Bar. Entry Level? Since HDTV's don't really have any Volume forcing you to buy a Sound Bar. I could Not get it to Pair with TV Volume. Always had to use Sony Remote to adjust volume as Opposed to the Cable Remote. 2 remotes is annoying. Which was also Annoying because I had a Sony TV I was using it with. (You would think they would Pair) Apparently there's no HDMI on the HT-S400 and you need that to use with the ARC HDMI on TV, I think. Anyway I bought the next one up on the Sony food chain when it was on sale and now new one Pairs with TV remote by using HDMI cable frpm bar to tv.
