Needed this for clear dialogue in movies

Not as many adjustments as the more expensive units, but does make movies and TV shows more intelligible. Seems the industry is severely lacking in the post production sound mixes. The news programs are "clear as a bell", yet other content is degraded and needs help for dialogue.

The sound is clear with no cracking/scratchy echoing going on. If you put it on full blast, your house will vibrate lol

I was thinking of getting rear speakers for surround sound but I am not sure I need them with this getup.

Regarding the volume level, it is normal to see a higher number on the display to reach your preferred loudness, but you might want to check if "Night Mode" is turned on, as this can make the output feel quieter. You can also try pressing the "VOICE" button on your remote to boost dialogue clarity without needing to crank the overall volume as high.

Love My New Sony Soundbar

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by the HT-S400 soundbar having only one HDMI port. Although the soundbar includes a single HDMI input, you can still enjoy audio from your 4K DVD player by connecting the soundbar to your TV’s HDMI ARC port and connecting the DVD player to a separate HDMI input on your TV. Your TV should then automatically route the DVD player's audio to the soundbar. If audio does not play immediately, we recommend verifying your TV’s audio settings to ensure the speaker system input corresponds to the correct HDMI port.
