Basic but Effective
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is probably the most basic sound bar I've had, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. One of the limiting factors that may make this one less attractive is the lack of inputs. This soundbar is designed to work through HDMI ARC mainly but also includes an optical input. If you need a coax digital input or analog input, this is not the hardware for you. Be sure your TV supports ARC before moving forward! There is also bluetooth connectivity. I set up my laptop through BT and was impressed at how accurate lip sync is. There was no latency that I was able to observe, making this ideal for improving the sound from BT devices. Latency may vary by type of device though. The remote is very basic but feels sturdy. The bar offers very basic sound functionality and there are buttons to turn on a virtual surround mode, boost voices and to turn on night mode, which mellows out the sound a bit. You can also adjust the level of the wireless subwoofer. I keep confusing the rocker switch for the sub with the volume, which is actually mapped to the large circular button on the remote. There are otherwise no other tone controls. The main speaker can be flush-mounted to the wall. There is no hardware included, but there are two "Keyholes" on back that simply slip over the top of a screw head, so nothing exotic is needed other than a couple sturdy screws into studs. The overall look is sleek and clean. There is a small display on front under the grill that shows the mode or input briefly then disappears and is not distracting. The subwoofer is slightly larger than I thought it would be and has a matching appearance. At first I wasn't too impressed with the bass but found that it improved with different placement. Be sure to try it in different places for the best sound. One way to do it is to put the sub in your viewing position (i.e. on your chair) and then wander around the room until it sounds good to you. That's the spot you should place it. I wouldn't recommend this for a serious home theater setup, but this is ideal for basic use if your TV doesn't have great sound on its own.

Sony is bringing the THUNDER!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was extremely skeptical at first after seeing some of the one-star reviews, but MAN im so glad I didn't listen to the negative reviews! This is hands down the best speaker/sub combination i have EVER heared for this type of a price point. Purchased it open-box in excellent condition for just $137 and i must say... the subwoofer sounds SOOO good I would've gladly paid full price! Really sounds like you're in a movie theater if you out the bass on max. I suggest this product for small to medium sized rooms. Also, I HIGHLY recommend putting the subwoofer by your couch.. and NOT by your tv. The sound quality is a million times better with the sub by your couch.. you'll thank me later!

Crystal Clear!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Amazing clarity and depth of field on this sound bar! I love that the wireless subwoofer has separate volume adjustment. The value on this unit is great as well, it doesn't cost too much and what you get for the money is totally worth it. The setup looks great under my TV and adds to the feel of the room, something other sound bars have failed to do in the past. The surround sound is amazing when watching movies, and syncing a phone up via Bluetooth for music is a breeze! Overall this is a very easy to use system, with great sound, at a reasonable price!

Great Sound Bar for a Great Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great set up for its price! (esp. the sale we had one it!). It was very easy to set up and also it sounds great! Nice simple customizations for it and also its great that the subwoofer connects to the sound bar wireless. So less clutter to have around! The Sound bar itself has the usual connections, being the HDMI Arc, USB, and Digital Optical Audio (or whatever its called).

Nice
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great soundbar + sub especially considering the price. It's only 2.1 so don't expect a huge surround effect but it is pretty good. Pretty powerful too, the box says 330 watts. Not sure where they get that number from but it does get pretty loud. Good quality sound, the sub has a good thump to it. I like the display on the soundbar. It normally displays the source but changes to show adjustments as well. Nice remote controls most functions, buttons on top of the soundbar as well. I only needed the buttons on the soundbar to pair my phone with the built in bluetooth for a really good music experience. I didn't really appreciate how good it sounded till I played some high quality music on it. Great sound for this price range. Inputs include hdmi (arc from tv), optical, and bluetooth wireless. Short optical cable included but hdmi cable not included. I personally prefer hdmi connection for tv/movies but optical is probably just as good. You will likely need to go into your tv settings to tell it to output the sound to your connection. Easy setup, the wireless sub (sub requires ac power connection) connected automatically. In my experience most speakers require a short break in period to get to their full potential so give them a few days of use before judging them. If you're on a tight budget or just want a simple way to improve your tv/movie experience and good music as well this is an affordable choice with great sound.

It's an OK Sound Bar
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's better than Nothing. It was decent sound for a Lower End Sony Sound Bar. Entry Level? Since HDTV's don't really have any Volume forcing you to buy a Sound Bar. I could Not get it to Pair with TV Volume. Always had to use Sony Remote to adjust volume as Opposed to the Cable Remote. 2 remotes is annoying. Which was also Annoying because I had a Sony TV I was using it with. (You would think they would Pair) Apparently there's no HDMI on the HT-S400 and you need that to use with the ARC HDMI on TV, I think. Anyway I bought the next one up on the Sony food chain when it was on sale and now new one Pairs with TV remote by using HDMI cable frpm bar to tv.

Good sub for effects but soundbar is lacking.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great little subwoofer for cinema effects but the crossover from soundbar to sub might be a tad too high. l find that the voice mode isn't enough to compensate for the midrange deficiencies even with the bass turned right down to the minimum. Overall, an improvement over my TV's built-in sound for effects and stage size but, for content with a lot of dialog, voices are more easily understood via the TV's built-in speaker system. I didn't find better soundbar and sub for the same low price. TV: Sony X90L Age of Ears: 64 Reference cinema speakers: Harbeth P3ESR/Yamaha YST-SW315 sub.

Good speaker system
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I enjoy this speaker system for our TV. I am older and having some hearing issues. My biggest beef is you have to tweak around with the settings to get the voices clearer. The good news is it can be done. It's an improvement over the TV speakers on my fairly new TV.
