Built in chromecast support makes playing audio from mobile devices easy and convenient. 3. Design and look of the product is appealing. 4. Easy to set up. 5. Got $200 off when bundled with my TV purchase. Bad: 1. A/V Sync problems. Sources originating from a TV (Netflix app) will pass audio to the soundbar via ARC. However, there is a noticeable delay between the picture and the audio (audio behind picture). Attempts to change picture settings to delay picture have been unsuccessful. Firmware update for my TV set is not recommended at this time when using a external sound system (Sony X900f). The only configuration that results in *close* A/V sync is plugging the HDMI source into the soundbar (such as XBOX, AppleTV) and then the soundbar into the TV. However, this negates the use built-in TV apps. Sony recommends plugging directly into the soundbar to keep A/V sync as close as possible. Google search "HT-z9f sync". I find this is unacceptable and is the primary reason for my return. 2. The product only provides 2 HDMI inputs on the soundbar. If the recommended method is to plug directly into the soundbar please give us more HDMI ports. 3. Included HDMI cable is not sufficient for 4k HDR or Dolby Vision. Standard 4k does work, but once you use a HDR source (such as Netflix via XBOX), flickering and picture dropouts will occur. 4. Because it's a soundbar the sound quality is just marginally better than standard TV speakers. In some cases I find the quality worse (music)! It does provide more clarity in the mid-high and high ranges, but a major loss in the midrange. 1" dome drivers can only do so much. 5. Occasionally the wireless subwoofer will cut-out at low volumes. No known cause.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.When the soundbar was first released a few years ago I thought it was way overpriced for what you were getting but nowadays, 2022 I think it’s a nice “mid range” soundbar. I think cheap soundbars caught up with this one honestly. It’s not as loud. But Sony’a DSP is what brings this soundbar to life. Atmos is not good because of no upfiring speakers but it does make the soundstage upfront wide & tall like you’re in a sound bubble.

Improved sound quality

So very happy that we purchased this sound bar to go with our Sony TV. I knew the native sound out of the TV would not be sufficient but this sound bar exceeded my expectations. There are many things you can do to change the settings if you want to mess with it. We were happy with the way the Geek Squad set it up and have not really messed with it. I would skip the rear speakers that we bought to go along with it, they do not live up to the quality this sound bar produces. Subwoofer provides the right amount of bass and effects. We watch things that need the extra boom of the subwoofer and the finesse of a quiet dialogue scene. Would recommend this setup.

Sounds great, but horribly unreliable!

Depending on the source (streaming, AppleTV, DVD) the sound cuts in/out in both the sub and rear speakers frequently enough that it becomes impossible to enjoy the show. The sound (when it’s working properly) is fantastic, but it’s unpredictable and rarely satisfying due to the constant in and out audio. We’ve tried expensive cables, different positioning, different configurations, and many software resets only to be happy for a short while, if we’re lucky. I have been a huge Sony fan for 30yrs, but this purchase has been a let-down for sure. I could never recommend this one.

I have a huge open livingroom/kitchen/dining area with 20' vaulted ceilings. I was worried this sound bar would NOT be enough, but it performed perfectly in the large open space.
