FUN PRODUCT!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Smart Speaker with the Google Assistant is a fun product! Super easy to setup. It easily recognizes our voices and performs whatever task we ask of it. The learning curve is US ... remembering to talk to the Smart Speaker so it can do its thing. The white packaging is very attractive sitting on my counter and I like having the built-in clock. We haven't experienced any problems with the device and - at times - 3 of us were telling it to perform various tasks. It kept up and recognized the different voices correctly.

Great speaker with smart features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With the S50G smart speaker, Sony has released a great audio device that also happens to feature Google Assistant. It puts out enough volume to fill a kitchen or living room with music or other audio, and the 360 degree speakers ensure that it will be heard from any direction. I was impressed with the audio quality, with a medium volume being more than sufficient to fill my living room. Listening to streaming audio, news and podcasts, the sound was crisp and clear. One other notable feature about this device is the LED display on the front that shows the time or volume setting when adjusting. Aside from using your voice, you can adjust the volume and audio playback with a wave of the hand. Spinning your finger in a clockwise circle directly over the speaker will turn up the volume, while spinning it in the opposite direction will turn it down. There are also gestures to pause and play audio, but I found that using your voice works just as well most times. Sony made this device splash-proof, so you can stick it in a kitchen with no fear of damage. The speaker cover comes off, as well, and can be cleaned under water. In addition to being a compact speaker, this device also features Google Assistant to make it a smart assistant device similar to Google’s offerings. I found the microphone to be great and had no trouble with it hearing the “OK Google” or “Hey Google” command words. I also found that it understood my commands and questions with no issue. The additional smart assistant features are a great part of this speaker. Google put together great features that allow Assistant to answer many questions, provide weather information and even help you get started in the morning with traffic and news updates. I also appreciated the smart home control features, such as being able to control WiFi-connected lights with my voice. A neat feature, too, is that it can recognize your voice specifically, so you can ask it details about your calendar or other Google account information and it will only respond to your voice. All of the assistant features are really part of Google’s software, but Sony put out some great hardware to support the experience. Setup: In order to set this speaker up with Google after plugging it in, you need a smartphone with the Google Home app installed. The app will guide you through pairing to the speaker and setting up preferences for the device. Sony and Google made this process pretty simple, so most people should have no trouble getting set up. I was also able to pair a smartphone directly as well to play streaming audio outside of the Assistant experience. I will admit that controlling settings in the Google Home app can be slightly intimidating at times, but that’s more of a complaint on Google’s app than this speaker directly. In summary, I was very impressed with this smart speaker.

Great Sound, Google Assistant Built In!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I liked the built in clock on the face, and set it to dim, so its still pretty dim even in darkness. I use this along with a chromecast stick and a tv to have a simple hands free and other device not needed music and Netflix video player in a guest room. You can also of course cast from a phone to the chromecast in guest mode with the code on the screen. No access to main wifi needed. The sound is very good for a smaller speaker, The non touching hands gestures work, but I don't see using that functionality very much. Overall, I like this speaker better than the google home speaker.

Good speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a pretty neat speaker. It connects either via wireless or bluetooth. It would be better if you could connect via both at the same time to play/connect to your phone at the same time. The sound quality is superb as you would expect from Sony. The motion functions don't always work as intended. To turn the volume up or down I have to often to the motion several times before it picks it up. Still learning much of what it can do but it is pretty neat so far.

Always wanted an assistant. Not disappointed.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the speaker features. It's very modern and simplistic. It recognizes different voices so that my wife and I can link our accounts and play different music on command. So nice to ask Google things without having to pull out my phone, and an added touch is linking other smart devices to the speaker. I activated my automatic vacuum using the speaker, it was awesome.

Perfect for the warehouse
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I work in a warehouse environment and the gang loves this speaker. The Google features work great. We love asking the weather or asking it to play a certain artist. The whole crew working and jamming throughout the shift. I see a lot people complain about not having the texting or calling but to me this is a speaker we use for radio play. We can leave the texting and calling to our phones. I guess this is perfect for the blue collar worker who just wants to put some music on and get to work. The sound is good and the bass is nice. You get that rich Sony sound and quality. This is one of the better buys I have made and the only thing I say is a Con is when I leave the warehouse after my shift because the music leaves with me lol.

Think Google Home, but with a bigger sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're in the market for a Google Home, you might want to pause and take a look at this speaker. This speaker by Sony offers the Google Assistant built-in. What's more, the speaker also allows you to pair up to other bluetooth devices in the home to get your boogie on however you like. In comparing both a full size Amazon Echo, Google Home and this speaker, I find that this speaker has a brighter and louder sound. Unfortunately it lacks the kind of punch i'd love to hear out of a speaker due to its small woofers. But when comparing apples and apples, this speaker seems to do a pretty solid job of delivering a big enough sound to fill a small to mid-sized room. My biggest complaint with it really centers around the gesture controls. I found it to be rather cumbersome to turn the volume up/down or to pause it. The one thing the Google Home crushes this on is having touch sensitive controls. All in all, I'd give this a recommend to anyone in search of a smart speaker.

Good little speaker
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's a good little speaker. The Google assistant is quite responsive and receptive to commands. Only complaint is that the bass is a bit artificial sounding. It can get loud but it sounds best at lower volumes.

Fantastic Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will start off by saying that I rarely ever leave reviews. I honestly feel that the majority of the time, people only leave bad reviews and I feel like that is incredibly petty. Nonetheless, here I am. Leaving a review. I digress. Now that that's out of the way, we can move on to the product. I spent nearly a month buying and returning Alarm Clock/Wireless Speakers at my local best buy. I unfortunately had to learn the hard way that Insignia is not a brand that can be trusted in the Tech arena. Again, I digress. To make a very long and boring story short, I ultimately spent a little extra money and went with this Sony speaker with Google Assistant and could not be happier.

Great for the Kitchen
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great speaker to use in the kitchen or other place were you might be worried about water splashing on a normal speaker. Although it's not truly waterproof, the splash guard does a decent job of protecting it from wayward water.

OK Sound, Old Firmware
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Sony Smart Speaker leaves much to be desired. It sounds slightly better than a standard Google Home speaker, but is missing features and runs an outdated version of the Google Assistant. At the time of writing, this speaker runs Cast version 1.28.101871 The current version of Cast is 1.29.106111 Unfortunately, this means bugs that were fixed in newer versions of the Cast firmware are present, such as poor Bluetooth connectivity. The speaker is also missing features such as voice calls and intercom broadcast.
