Great mid-pack utilitarian wireless ear-phones

Owned for 5 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Despite what might be promised, ANC ear buds, or in ear monitors, are always going to come up short sound wise compared to wired and much more expensive options. However, these are meant to be convenient accessories to quell the drone of planes or busses and provide a decent sound quality in a light and affordable package. In these respects, these are perfectly fine and bring along a little of that Sony gravitas. They fit well, have good battery life, good customer support, and the noise canceling is pretty good. If absolute sound fidelity is your goal there are probably other options for more money. For Blue Tooth, these are squarely in the middle of doing everything pretty well, but not outrageously great, or costly, in most ways.

iffy longevity
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.absolutely love the sound quality, great fit, overall amazing earbuds. had for about a year and a half before battery life dropped drastically. one won’t stay on longer than 2 minutes and the other only gives me about an hour on a full charge. definitely expected to get more years out of these, maybe it’s just the pair i got but definitely something to keep in mind

We're sorry about the trouble with the earbuds losing connection when they sense they're not in your ear. This feature is meant to save battery and improve convenience, but we know it can be a bit sensitive sometimes.
If you want to change the settings, check out the Sony | Sound Connect app. You can adjust in-ear detection or turn off the auto-pause feature, which might help keep your connection more stable.

Good sound but would not stay in my ears.

They just would not stay in my ears so I returned them for that reason. The app is good to work with the buds. If they stayed in my ears I most likey would have kept them. This is not the only pair I had this probelms with so needless to say I have been through several test runs of in-ear buds but nothing seems to work to a point where I have been satisfied with in-ear buds. We all differ and in-ear buds are not for everyone. I just think it is nice to have noise canceling option for in ear buds, where as noise canceling for the out of ear buds greatly differs. If in-ear buds work for you these are very nice, but I cant advise on battery life because I returned them. As for me, maybe one day. Until then, best of luck.

We're also sorry if these wouldn't stay in ears. To keep the headphones from falling out, please select the right size earbud tips. We also recommend wearing the earbuds properly. The app is key to controlling these buds, getting the sound right and using all the features. Sony packed too much in to just plug an play, so take a few minutes to set them up. There are always better and newer and more expensive whatevers out there, but for my use, I am very happy.

I bought these headphones for work since the box stated that it was a great for jobs that are "Work-From-Home". When I bought them I would use them for work all day. After the second week of having uaing them I noticed my ears were bleeding throughout the day. I switched back to my Sony WH-XB900N and my ears stopped bleeding. I dont listen to loud music and I am using the phone frequently so i'm not sure why they were bleeding with these headphones. Maybe they were giving out a frequency that put strained my ears. Either way, They connected easily to my devices but they don't have wireless charging. I have them as a backup pair now in case I forget to charge my primary pair of headphones.

Can't use for sleep due to LOUD ALERT

The Sony WF-1000XM4 were way too big for my ears, and these are small enough that they work. I need to wear earbuds for sleeping due to loud neighbors. Sigh. A huge downside of these is that there is a loud "Low Battery" alert that goes off when the battery is almost empty. I went into the app, and turned off alerts and warnings. However, it says that some will continue to be sent regardless, and I guess this is one of them. It's awful to be woken up in the middle of the night by this. It almost defeats the purpose of using these to get a restful night's sleep, and I am considering returning them for that purpose. SONY - PLEASE MAKE IT CONFIGURABLE TO TURN OFF LOW BATTERY ALERT.

Review after almost 2 years

Noise cancellation works great to filter out the crowd/road noise. The adaptive works great when talking to someone while still listening to my podcast too. Also tried Apple, Bose and some others and these were the most comfortable fit for my ears. Soft rubber ftw vs hard plastic buds. However at the 1 year and 8 month mark the left bud will only hold a charge for about 15 minutes. So for $200 for 20 months that’s $10/month for decent ear buds. For me they’re worth the purchase ymmv.

However, we're sorry to hear the problem with the left earbud after 1 year and 8 months of use. Allow us to help troubleshoot the problem.
Depending on the settings for the headset functions and usage conditions, the speed of energy consumption for the rechargeable battery may vary between the left and right units. Please try some solutions below if the available operating time is short or the battery power does not last long.
Make sure the headset is charged sufficiently and set securely in the charging case.
Be sure to use the supplied USB Type-C cable and check that the cable is firmly connected to the charging case.
If the earbud tips are not properly attached to the headset, the headset may not be charged with the supplied charging case. Check that the earbud tips are attached properly when you store the headset in the charging case.
Reset the headset.
Initialize the headset, and pair the headset and the device again.

Great earbuds with some flaws

Issues with connection stability with LDAC , which should be ironed out, since these are advertised as hi-fi earbuds. Touch controls need to be customizable. What Sony calls customizable, is anything but.

When you play audio with LDAC, data transmission volume increases. Your input with the customizable touch controls is truly appreciated. You can actually change the function assignments to the touch sensors of the left and right units using the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app. For example, the music playback function that is assigned to the touch sensor of the right unit in the factory settings can be changed to the touch sensor of the left unit.
