Better than the XM4 buds

These are smaller and more comfortable than the XM4 buds. I returned those to get this pair and I am much happier with my purchase. I like the Google Assistant integration. The ambient mode is nice for environments where you need to hear your surroundings.

The app also allows you to customize the buds to your liking. The only thing missing is wireless charging. Battery life will decrease when using anc or ambient sound.

Definitely liked the Samsung pair more. Better touch control, better noise canceling, just better frankly. These are good, and I enjoy them, great fit, light too, but there are better options (Samsung) at this price point.

For optimum performance, make sure that the software version of the headphones is up-to-date (via the Sony Headphones Connect app).
To operate the headset, tap the touch sensor correctly. To operate the touch sensor, tap the touch sensor with your forefinger. Tap the touch sensor with the ball of your finger. If you tap with your nail or fingertip, the headset may not operate. If the headset moves when you tap the touch sensor, the headset may not operate. When tapping the touch sensor 2 or 3 times, tap it quickly with an interval of about 0.3 seconds between taps. For more information, please refer to this link:

The noise canceling function is effective in low frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices. If the size of the earbud tips does not match the size of your ear canals or the headset is not worn properly in your ears, tap operations or Speak-to-Chat speech detection may not work correctly, or you may not obtain the correct sound qualities, noise canceling effects, or call performance. If any of this is the case, try the following:
-Change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ears. When changing the earbud tips, try the earbud tip sizes in order from the larger ones to the smaller ones. The size of the left and right earbud tips may be different. The “Sony | Headphones Connect” app will help you to determine which earbud tips are most suitable for you to achieve the optimal noise cancellation effect.
-Check that you are wearing the headset properly in your ears. Wear the headset so that the earbud tip is comfortably situated as deep in the ear canal as possible.
When the Adaptive Sound Control on the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app is turned on, the wearer's actions, like walking or running, are detected. The noise canceling function is automatically adjusted and the Ambient Sound Mode may be activated according to these actions. To make the most of the noise canceling function, turn off the Adaptive Sound Control, and try to turn on the noise canceling function manually when you need it.

Good sound quality, several drawbacks.

The right bud loses battery at almost twice the rate that the left bud does. Conversation detection is a little wonky. An electric toothbrush frequently makes it think I'm talking, and drops it into ambient sound mode.

Note:
Either side of the headphones can work as the main unit, and the main unit consumes more power than the other side. Because of this, the remaining battery level may vary between left and right. This is not a malfunction.
As for the Speak-to-Chat function, the Speak-to-Chat mode activates when the headset detects the speech of the person wearing the headset, but in rare cases it may activate in response to vibrations caused by devices such as electric toothbrushes, electric massagers, and electric shavers, or by activities such as brushing your teeth, coughing, or humming. In cases where the Speak-to-Chat mode frequently activates by accident, set Speak-to-Chat to “L Sensitivity”.

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.These aren't just headphones that don't live up to what they're advertised to be, but they are almost unusable and extremely frustrating. The sensors on the side are simultaneously too sensitive to things they shouldn't be i.e. my hair, fabric, etc. and not sensitive enough to my fingers when I'm trying to skip a song or switch sound environments. I ended up turning off the tap options because my hair kept triggering a song/show to be skipped or paused, extremely frustrating while working out. I thought disabling the features would help make these headphones tolerable (even though these features are part of why these headphones have a higher price tag) but they still randomly pause I'd say at least 10 times within a 30 minute period. I've also had them randomly shut off while working out.. I have idea how. Had to stop and reconnect them. Another thing, if I clear my throat or cough the music/show will pause as well. If you're looking for great quality headphones I highly recommend staying away from these and looking into the Jabra brand. Don't waste your money like I did. I rarely leave reviews but I use my headphones for the majority of my day so I need the quality to live up to what is expected and these do not.

Disappointing

However, after running into numerous issues between two different sets I cannot recommend these. The first pair I had for 13 days and in that time I found that they randomly disconnected, had static issues, and the mic made me sound robotic. I exchanged those hoping I just had a dud, but within hours of getting the new pair I found more issues. When the ANC and adaptive sound control are turned off, the left ear bud makes a high pitched screeching noise. These also have static during calls. With all these issues I have to return them. I suppose I was lucky I had problems so quickly so I can at least get my money back. I would save yourself the trouble and get a different brand.

Early battery life degradation

Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.*When it works* this is a very good product -- good sound, good ANC, relatively easy to use. What is disqualifying is how fast the battery life deteriorated in the right earbud (after a little more than a year of not heavy use) -- down to an erratic 15-30 minutes before exhaustion. Of course, >12 mos. is beyond warranty coverage, and all that Sony will do is throw a litany of reset steps at you before referring you to their hand-selected repair service. What's frustrating is that this seems to be a long-existing problem for which Sony has no effective fix. I'd buy another pair if I could be confident that the battery life issue wouldn't repeat itself, but I have no such trust. Also don't believe that repair could possibly be cost-effective over replacement. Bottom line, it's a good product *if* you can keep it working for more than a few mins at a stretch. Currently shopping for other brands to replace.
