We're sorry to hear that you have an issue with your Sony unit. Please check if the Quick attention mode. This function turns down music, call sounds, and the ringtone to allow ambient sound to be easily heard. Also, please check thie Speak-to-Chat feature. If Speak-to-Chat is enabled in advance, the Speak-to-Chat mode starts automatically when you talk to someone.

The headset pauses or mutes the music being played and captures the voice of the person you are conversing with on the microphones to make it easier to hear. You can check this link for more details:
