Hello, thank you for your message. The noise canceling function is effective in low frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, or offices (near air conditioning, etc.) and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices. Oscar. sony_US

Great audio, but there are some minor issues

These headphones sound great. They have great mid-range and low end sound. However, these are not Over-The-Ear headphones. They are On-Ear. The audio sounds crisp and clear but only if you are using power from a AAA battery. Which we all know will not last forever so unless you are carrying an extra battery around with you, you may end up having your battery die in the middle of listening to something. Lastly, the microphones on the outside of the headphones just seems a bit pointless. Sure it has its pros but the cons I've noticed is it picks up every time you run your hand over it, and you will not be able to hear anything coming from it if you're outside on a windy day. That being said, these are very good headphones and I would definitely recommend them to someone else in need.

These headphones are good for the price, but lack in some areas. The sound quality is ok, but the noise cancelling is slightly disappointing. They are simple to set up, just install the supplied battery in accordance with the instructions, and plug them in. With the noise cancellation mode off, these sound somewhat flat, like you are listening through a thin wall. With noise cancelling on, the sound is acceptable. Pros: Easy set up, good sound with noise cancelling on, somewhat comfortable. Good on a budget. Cons: Noise cancelling is subpar.

I returned these as soon as I was able to try them out at home. I put in the battery and turned it on. It didn't cancel *any* noise. Ambient noise sounded exactly the same whether it was turned on or off. I think you have to spend a lot in order to get high quality, noise-cancelling headphones.

    Sony noise-cancelling headset

Good sound quality. Comfortable to ear. Noise cancelling feature works better on background hums than it does on human voices. The headset has lots of moving parts, so it's a little awkward to put on, but is fine otherwise. I've not had it long, so I don't know about durability yet. Satisfied so far.

Nice headphones but should have volume control too

These headphones have good sound quality & are comfortable. The noise canceling seems to work OK (tested only with office fan noise). For storing the headphones, I love the folding design, since I think it tends to protect the headphones from damage, and the headphones are more compact this way. I gave the product only 3 stars because: * It should have a volume control. This should be on one of the earpieces like the noise-canceling (NC) on/off switch is, *not* in a dangling pod that is awkward & may shorten the life of the cable (by adding stress to the cable). The user might plug the headphones into various devices, including computerized ones that can have different ways to adjust the volume depending on what software is running. Also, the device may be out of the user's reach sometimes. A mechanical volume control (on the headphones) is crucial so the user has a way of adjusting the volume that will always work. I had to buy a separate dangling volume knob with 1/8" connectors for $12. * The cable should be more tangle-free. Some other headphones use flat cable for this reason, but to me, flat cable looks like it might "unzip" too easily along the grooves between conductors. I suggest a bigger-diameter round cable. * The NC should use a AA battery instead of AAA. I use rechargeables and prefer AA because it lasts more charge-discharge cycles. I would accept the earpieces being a little bigger to have room for a AA inside.

More comfortable than Skulcandy in same price range. Some noise cancelling but not as much as I would like. Do Not listen to the expensive ones, these will disappoint you. Sound is fine for me. Cord is too short. Plug feels fragile as do the whole headphones. Saved $10 on Cyber Monday. Sit on top of the ear, not around them. Will update after some more experience.

These headphones are pretty good for the price. The sound is really clear as long as you have a battery in them. That kind of stinks having to keep batteries on hand. Also, I wish the bass was better. I have to use the bass booster on my phone to get it to sound good. But overall, a good product for the price. I'm happy.

I got these as a gift for someone, and they loved them. They said they worked well and were comfortable. She does have a bigger head, but she said it fit nicely and that they were not restrictive or too tight.

Did not read any reviews as I had no idea what I wanted, so decided to follow the advice of a Best Buy Sales Associate. Wanted a decent but inexpensive pair to use with Milk Music Samsung smart phone and tablet as well as my 2011 laptop. Associate took me thru all the choices, blue tooth wireless (which my lap top is not) and wired, which I choose. He suggested the Sony brand which I knew was decent quality from other Sony things I have, and he suggested the opening price point, so if later I was not satisfied could trade up and not be out lots of cash. The head phones are great. The only reason not 5 stars as after worn for over an hour develop a little pressure on my ears. Like the fact they work whether powered on or not.......great for any first user, or budget conscience. Would buy them again....no question, they sound great!

Sony is known for good audio, these are pretty great for the price point. Comfortable, wired phones for when you just don't want to deal with wireless connection drama. The noise canceling is the best part, with a single AAA these phones add a nice sound boost, giving a nice punch to your favorite music.

These are solid headphones and great for the price point. I bought them to wear on airplanes, looking for something that could plug into my in-flight entertainment system, and these work great for that. Audio quality is pretty good as well. The noise cancelling is not as powerful as others I've tried, but I think good for the price. I would say they could be more comfortable. After a few hours they did start to hurt my ears.

    Good midrange headphones

I just got these a few days ago and they are working out quite well. The sound is pretty good with an okay amount of bass. These are active noise reduction, so you have to use a AAA battery. There is also an amp built-in, so unless you have the battery in and the power on, they will sound like the worst headphones ever. When I got them, I did the typical 'rip them out of the box and throw them on my head'. They sounded horrible, and that is when I looked at the instructions. Once I put the battery in and turned them on, they sounded great. The noise reduction is pretty nice. It can get annoyingly loud where I work and these have helped out a lot. Definitely would recommend this to anyone looking for a mid-range ANR headset.
