AM/FM/WEATHERBAND--What more could you ask for?

I listen to talk shows on the AM dial & to lots of different types of music on the FM dial. This portable radio (it even has a belt clip, its own set of basic headphones, and a weather band!) does a lot.It only takes one AAA long lasting battery to power this "baby" up.I haven't made much use of the weather band, but the only thing that bothers me a little is that sometimes when selecting stations digitally by pressing the preset buttons,I "hit" the the weather band preset.Then...I have to re-identify the desired band, but this is no real big problem. For people like me who don't own Ipods, this product provides a nice sounding & portable entertainment outlet.

Great very compact portable radio with solid AM/FM reception relative to other brands with plenty of presets. A few negatives are that I could not get any weather band reception, there are no external speakers and the included headphones are very low quality, but none of this mattered to me since I use them with my own earphones primarily to listen to sportscasts during football games.

Disappointed in Engineering and Quality Control

For I wanted to do the design is Great but was really disappointed in the engineering and quality control from Sony. This is my 4th try, with all the tuner will show overmodulating across several frequencies for the close stations and the same for several transponders that have cropt up in the area. It is near impossible now to listen to FM stations over 30 miles. AM what I expected a lot better out doors than inside. The Weather band transponder is less than 17 miles from me and to hear it, I have to turn the volume up over 1/2 way and it is a 1000 watts. The tuner + - changes but only the same transponder comes thru even though there is another about 65 miles. The FM reception is probably the same for the weather. The biggest disappointment was the cost to operate the 3rd radio..I listen an average of 2-6 hours a day. I would expect a battery in a radio to last 2-3 months. In the 3rd radio store brand batteries lasted 4-5 days, tried rechargeable and they lasted 5 hours. Bought the best batteries Engergizer Lithium (20 yrs unopened and 9 times the operating life of the regular alkaline battery). This time the battery lasted 10 days. At a cost of $10.99 for 4 batteries, that radio will cost me over $100 a year to use. Hope this 4th try the batteries will last longer, IF Not this radio is going back and I will be taking the Best Buy Card. Sony needs to improve battery life, tuner seperation and AM and FM reception, add a plug for both the home and and auto. IF they are able to resolve the battery life problem, then for good measure add an mp3 player to it. The mp3 players with AM/FM radio look TOO Fragile compared to this radio.

Very good reception for a portable radio. Pretty clear tone even though we switched earphones for Sony earbuds for ease of use at sporting events. Conveniently clips to belt.

Excellent little portable. radio. Can hear those distant stations at night hundreds of mules away. Battery life is great if you use Duracell Ultra. Takes about a month until it needs to be replaced. Uses only 1 AAA battery. Still works fine after buying it in spring 2003

I'm going to buy a new one after the one I have had for 4 years lost it's battery cover. I dropped it at least 12 times in that time and it kept on performing the same. I find the inside reception good outdoors. Inside reception will likely be around the same as an old school boombox in my experience. This radio is also a power sipper so batteries last well. I think i get around 4 days of 6 hour use at work on a fully charged rechargeable AAA battery. Good item if you work in a business that does not allow personal electronic items capable of taking pictures on the work floor.

Perfect for those sleepless nights! I go to sleep with it on. I use it when I wake up. I don't disturb my wife. This would also be perfect for an elderly person to get them through the day or night. Programmed buttons can be "memorized" with finger location so that light or eyesight isn't needed to enjoy it. I personally leave it on throughout the night every night and I only use 1 AAA per week. I use air buds instead of those bulky earphones. Reception is fabulous. I love this thing and have already bought a backup to store away in case they stop making them.

I bought this radio in March of 2007 and it's still going strong! Great for listening to limited TV channels. You can set up to 20 AM Stations & 20 FM Stations. Fits in most pockets or you can clip it on to your belt or bag. Very convenient & very good price.

This radio is a gem. Small enough to put in your pocket or handbag, it gets wonderful reception and can be set to 10 FM stations and 5AM station. Very reasonably priced.

I bought this AM/FM radio to use around the house and bicycling. I love it. PROS: Perfect size and weight Great sound/reception Digital clock and presets Belt Clip CONS: In my area, weather band not working at all (maybe not available) Have to turn off radio to see time (minor issue) Supplied headphones cannot really be used as a wraparound...to use this radio while wearing a bike helmet I had to buy sports headphones. The Yurbud Inspire 200 works best.

    Excellent audio portability

This is the first portable radio I've ever owned that SAVED my personally preset stations, even when I changed batteries (provided I locked the unit)! And the outer construction of the unit is beyond excellence. I've dropped this unit more times than I can count and accidentally used it as a commuter train shuffleboard puck with nary a major scratch or nick.

    Reception is very disappointing

I bought this radio primarily to listen to ball games while exercising. Unfortunately the reception is not what I expected based on other product reviews. The reception on lower AM stations such as 560 and 680 and even the FM stations is very poor, and lots of interference is received from the treadmill at the gym, or from my Blackberry is it gets too close to the radio. While driving the other day I tried to get the baseball game on this unit instead of the car radio, since my passangers didn't want to listen. The reception was much poorer than the car reception, and I had to continually point the radio in a certain direction to improve the reception. Is my unit a lemon or is this product's reception horrible?

My 81 year old father enjoys listening to news, music, & his favorite team, Chicago Cubs, while walking 2 to 5 miles per day. He is intimidated by new technology, downloading, etc. so this device is easily programmable, lightweight & ideal for him. He has had good experiences with Sony pocket radios in the past as well. He says the headphones are a plus for him.

    Not really a portable radio - It's a Walkman

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I searched for an am/fm "portable radio" with presets. This has all that BUT nowhere did it say it's a Walkman. Guess I should have figured it out when I saw the size. Opened the box (that was a challenge) and nope no speakers MUST USE headset. Not what I needed. So I will have to return this, too bad, if I'd wanted a Walkman it probably would have been a good buy.

Can no longer use TV band

I have loved this lttle portable radio for a long time. It's portable size is perfect for pocket, travel ,etc. I used to listen to tv at work with it but since the digital conversion in June 2009, it no longer receives tv reception so. It is only good for AM/M radio reception. I was never able to figure out how to get weather on it. The battery life is pretty decent,

I like this portable radio, but the sound quality could have been better. The FM stations sounds a little like the sound quality of the AM stations, so that's why I'm saying the sound quality could have been better. But I liked the presets and this portable radio looks like it could last long.

I purchased this for when there are outages. I have only had to use it once so far. But it gave me the weather information I needed. I would think most people would get use out of this at one time or another. Very small and lightweight.
