Pricey, But Worth It

While you can certainly go to a third-party manufacturer to save some money, it's important to remember that camera batteries are precision devices that can damage a camera if it malfunctions. Cheap batteries often don't charge as quickly or fully, hold a charge as long nor offer the right chips to report battery life correctly to the camera's diagnostic systems. It's worth the extra cost to insure that you get a battery that works properly and won't damage your expensive camera.

Pay for the name

I haven’t tested to see if it lasts longer than much cheaper 3rd party batteries. I have two just to say I have the correct manufacture battery. But I can get 3 3rd party batteries for the price of one Sony, and there’s been no difference in quality.
