Not as good as I hoped

Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I paired this with the Sony A5000 soundbar and SA-RS5 rear speakers on a Sony XR55 A80L TV. The sound from the soundbar and rear speakers already made some good low end but not floor shaking. My living room isn't large. I'm only about 8 feet from the TV sitting on the couch. My thought was the SA SW5 might be too much. This SA SW3 does add some low end but not as much as I was expecting. It can also get rather boomy sounding. That makes me wish it had an adjustable crossover point like my old Polk Audio sub had. The mid bass is easily handled by the soundbar and rear speakers. For my situation I would only need it to give me 80hz and lower frequencies. So now it makes me think I should have gotten the SA SW5. I would say this SA SW3 would be good if you lived somewhere that would disturb neighbors. If you live in a house though you might want more if you like bass.

Sony subwoofer

The Subwoofer made a huge difference in the sound. The sound was deep and rich. The setup was basically to plug it in and it worked!

Worse than the predecessor. Not worth it.

The old sub that came with the HT-ST5000 soundbar seems to have a bigger rumble and sounds so integrated where as the SW3 sub sounds loud, muddy and unnatural. I did room calibration a couple times and moved the sub to the corner of my living room, and it sounded better now. Still, this isn't a $350 sub. For $200? Sure. Even at $300, I'd say it's not worth it. Wait for a good deal on the SW5 sub or for Sony to release a new generation.

If you still find the depth lacking for your space, the SA-SW5 does offer a more powerful 300W output and a passive radiator specifically designed for that deeper, cinematic rumble you're looking for.

Subwoofer easy to use!

Great Subwoofer in the market

I have it set with the Bravia 8 soundbar and sounds great in which deep low sounds can be felt along the floor in front and around my seating position.

More than adequate in a room 24 x 18 in size

I was slightly concerned that the size of this unit would not adequately produce satisfying bass in my size room. I even went into the local store before delivery and posed this question whether I should have gotten the larger unit. The sales people were assuring that this unit would be adequate for my sized room and they were 100% correct. I do not feel the bass is lacking at all and have tested this with movies such as "Dune" or "Edge of Tomorrow" and it rumbled the room in good fashion. This sub will not rattle the furniture to the point it will start walking around the room, but that is not what I am after anyway. Music playback bass is also adequate, although this soundbar/subwoofer combo is not, to my ear, designed for music playback anyway. Well worth the cost.
