I have the square mini-speaker from a popular competitor and this doesn't quite compare on volume, sound, or mic quality. However, at less than half the price [of said competitor] -- this is a very good substitute. The sound is solid - bass is good enough - and the shape/soft-rubber material [plus strap] makes it easy to carry in one hand or hook onto a backpack. It's a bit weighted so it won't easily be knocked over, but if it's on a thin surface (such as a filing cabinet) - the bass will cause it to dance across the surface until it's up against something or falls over the edge. Since the build is solid - a tumble or two would probably have no impact (thankfully I haven't needed to find out for myself). It also has IP67 rating and won't be damaged by a little rain. The battery is stellar-- I can leave it days at a time and still have plenty of battery the next time I pick it up. The charging and aux ports have a waterproof plug cover that blends in nicely with the design. I wouldn't plan on using the mic for calls. The voice pickup is muffled and cuts out. You can easily switch back to your phone's speakerphone if needed though. The speaker allows stereo pairing which I haven't been able to try. There are also physical controls on the speaker for volume/pause/play which means you don't have to search for your phone if you want to adjust your music. The black finish shows fingerprints (which can be easily cleaned off). The strap is similar to seatbelt material and still looks brand new. If you're looking for a great portable speaker that won't break the bank -- this is an excellent choice and best in class. If you're willing to spend more than twice as much on a competitor's speaker- then I'd probably go with option B.

Its ok for its size but it’s very over priced for the sound it plays. Definitely not worth the money, there are cheaper options that sound similar or better.

The Sony SRS-XB21 Portable Bluetooth Speaker is a well-built, tiny at about the size of a medium size tea cup. It is water and dust proof (although I would be wary about submerging it). The sound is rich and clear, bass response is decent and clear as is usually the case with Sony’s wireless speaker line. The speaker is easy to pair, has a combined play/pause/next track/answer call button and a separate +/- volume buttons.  A removable small panel reveals a USB Micro Type B jack for charging the speaker and a line in jack (which I usually do not see on Bluetooth speakers) for connecting a device to playback through this speaker. You can also chain this speaker to others of the same type to expand your sound field.  Overall what matters with a Bluetooth speaker is sound. This speaker sounds good in quiet environments, although it can easily get drowned out by ambient noise and only gets so loud. Overall this is a good SMALL speaker, don’t expect it to fill a good size room with slamming beats. But it will do a decent job in small meetings or events where you don’t need to overpower the room with sound. Pros: - rich sound with punchy clear bass when used in quiet environments. - Removable carrying strap - Very good battery life, rated for 16 hours - Line In jack for connecting devices via a cord Cons: - Sony Music center mobile app does not provide much functionality as it does with other Sony wireless speakers. - Not a room filling speaker in relation to sound

It’s a Sony, what more is there to say? Sony electrons are top of the line.

This speaker works well. I purchased it just for extra volume, and it does a good job.

Convienient, easy to connect to devices. It's seen a good amount of use, although not perfect. It can be sitting right next to the device it's connected to but still cut out/have difficulties over bluetooth. It's also not the loud. Even with everything on the computer and the speaker set as loud as it can go, if it's more than a couple feet away, it's pretty quiet. Alright for its price, I'd still to using audio jacks over bluetooth.

Works very well. The sound volume is better than you would think for a small item. Very pleased with it.
