I bought this mostly to use this to listen to my iPhone in the bathroom. The sound is fantastic capturing the highs and lows. Talk shows sound as good as music. Glad I purchased this.

It's a small portable BT Speaker that works as a small speaker would. Good for bathroom, picnic, pool, beach, camping. Is quiet, but reasonable for price. build is nice.

I have 2 other Bose wireless speakers and wanted something for the workshop. I'm very impressed with the sound. I almost can't tell the difference between this Sony and our Bose!

Much like the heyday of mp3 players several years ago, I think we’re in a “golden age” for Bluetooth speakers today. The market is flooded with them, and it can be hard to figure out which one to buy. I’ve been using a Sharkk wireless speaker for several years now, and I love it, so it is my benchmark for other speakers, at least in the sub-$100 category. The Sony SRS-XB21 is different right out of the box. It is covered with a unique, water and dust-resistant fabric that rinses easily and looks very good. In the box you’ll find the speaker, a charging cable, and some sparse instructions in many languages, as is typical of Sony. Connecting a device via Bluetooth is easy. A musical chime lets you know you’ve successfully connected. After that, just start playing music. The sound is rich and full, and very loud for the size of the speaker. Sony provides 3 sound modes: standard, extra bass, and live sound. Extra bass is what you’d expect, and it really does provide added punch to the lower end. Live sound tries to mimic the sound of a large room, to make the soundstage seem bigger than it really is. It works quite well, but I’m not really a fan of it. To use live sound, you’ll need to install the Sony Music Center app (more on that in a moment). Compared to my older Sharkk, the Sony has fuller and richer sound, even in standard mode. I was quite surprised by this, as I’m a big fan of the big sound I get from my Sharkk. On top of the speaker are buttons for play/pause and volume up/down, as well as the power/Bluetooth pairing button. Conspicuously missing are buttons for skipping tracks (you’ll have to use your device for that). This thing can easily fill a good-sized room with sound and would be great at parties. Sony is trying to differentiate itself with some additional features. There are two thin white lines around the speaker, and these are actually lights. The lights can pulse with the music if you want. In addition, you can turn on “party mode” and produce sounds by hitting the speaker with your hand in different places to the beat of the music. Different sounds are produced in different spots. The idea is to hold the speaker one hand and tap it with the other. While this may be fun for a while, I really didn’t see the value in it. It’s a gimmick that will garner some laughs at a party, but I doubt this’ll be a go-to feature for most people. The Music Center app allows you to control the lights and turn party mode on and off. It will also link to your iTunes library (for iOS) and allow you to both control your speaker and choose music from the same app. The app provides the ability to tailor the sound a bit, and even includes a rudimentary equalizer. This is a nice touch, and I found it to work well, in spite of the many complaints you’ll find online about this software. The app isn’t just for the speaker, it’ll also control other Sony devices you may have. If you have more than one speaker, or if your friends also have them, you can link them together and use them to play the same music together. This is another example of Sony’s desire for these speakers to be the “life of the party”. If a call comes in while you’re listening to the speaker, it automatically converts to a speakerphone, although I thought this feature was a bit lackluster. This is very handy, and is pretty standard on Bluetooth speakers. Overall, I think this is a really great speaker. It is dustproof and waterproof, so it can go wherever you go, and the battery life is fantastic. For me, it is my new go-to wireless speaker. You would do well to include it on your short list.

Was able to get in a holiday deal and was impressed with the sound quality for a rather small speaker. The light in factor was pretty cool for evening get togethers.

This speaker packs quite the punch for its size. It can get pretty loud to be used in a larger area, but really it would be best in a dorm, small apartment, or bedroom. I noticed right away that no matter what type of music I played on it, it seemed muffled and far away, after doing some reading I realized I can adjust the EQ settings if I download an app made by Sony. I really am not a fan of downloading apps just to use a bluetooth device like this, but in this case, the app was pretty user friendly and allowed me to make the changes I wanted to make. I figured out that increasing the treble and base, and lowering the middle, it sounded much better and got the sound quality to my satisfaction (my usual go to speaker is a bose speaker, but compared to other bluetooth speakers I have, I certainly prefer this Sony over others). The app also lets you change the function of the lights or turn them off altogether. The amount of function buttons it has on the body is nice, especially the ones that have dual functions if you were to hold one down, and they are all clearly labeled. Some buttons allow you to check the battery level or turn the lights off which is nice if you don’t feel a need for the app. I am also glad to see Sony decided to leave an aux-in port in the back, seems like so many manufacturers are parting ways with that port but I still run into situations where it would be the preferred method. Speaking of ports in the back, I am also glad Sony made this speaker rechargeable via just a normal micro usb charger, I have a speaker that needs its own special charging plug, and lets just say it never gets charged. Now a micro usb on the other hand, just about everyone has at least one of those wires plugged in at any given time, so it is easy to charge this. I put this speaker to the test by bringing it to work and putting it to use for my whole ten hour shift. I work in an auto parts store where the building is metal, there's an awful lot of metal parts around, and plenty of other things to interfere with the connection but even when I walked about 45 feet away with my phone it never skipped a beat. I have taken speakers to work before for this same test, more expensive ones that were even bigger and they disconnected literally 27 times during my shift. This Sony speaker did not cut out once and co workers commented on how well it was staying connected and how good it sounded. Another thing I think worth noting is the build quality of this speaker. It feels like a solid device, not a cheap feel to it at all. The back cover for the plug ports seems secure and I would trust it against water if I were ever comfortable getting this near water (Sony says it is safe, although it is painful to put devices like this through that). The fabric wrapping the entire device feels rugged but not over the top at all. Overall I would recommend this to someone, especially if they just need something to be able to easily listen to music and do not need the feel and sound of a big booming stereo. I cannot wait to use this at the beach this summer because it really will be perfect for that.

This was purchased as a replacement for a 4 yr old cube Bluetooth speaker & it is wonderful! About twice the size of my cube, it is still easy to carry and has a nice sound !

I like the side and sound of the speaker but I do not like the fact that it will easily roll due to it's shape. I have had it start to roll and almost fall off my desk due to it's shape.

I bought this for my son to take to work. He lives it. I've bought others from other places and the sound quality is terrific. I did buy the 2 year warranty just in case. LOL

This speaker is used mostly by our sons when they have friends over and for their rooms when they are hanging out. Cost was just right for this quality soeaker
